Tuesday (not Monday) PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's not Monday, it's Tuesday. One of those weird weeks in the U.S. again. So we have four days this week until the weekend again.

What's on your PODA for the day? For the week?

Good Morning!

Twins - Thanks for the start.

I had a great night's sleep and woke up feeling ready to get started. I am trying a few things to improve my sleep, so I am encouraged to see progress. Now to continue the experiment and see if it can be repeated.

I made substantial progress yesterday on getting the plates spinning again. Hopefully, today I can repeat the progress I made.

I'm making good progress with the morning, although we don't know anything about the kitchen construction this week. I've not started emptying things but dh took down a bookcase yesterday and we the stuff off it. I've cleared kitchen table of that and other accumulated stuff.

Trying to figure out why I haven't rec'd a text message about meds refills to pick up at pharmacy. I refilled my meds boxes for the week already but need refill of one TODAY.

Need to fold a bunch of laundry next. I'm seeing massage therapist at 11:30 (thank goodness!) and want to have chores done by then.

Break #1 to cool off in front of the fan with an iced drink.

I fed and watered the rabbits. I also watered half of two raised beds while I walked in the garden. I didn't mean to pick tomatoes but somehow, I ended up filling my t-shirt three times. I have them in the kitchen sink ready to be rinsed off and then processed.

Tomato processing discussing.... I do not remove skins from tomatoes. There are several reasons for that decision, with loss of nutrients & time it takes being the top two. Another top reason is we like tomato skins. In the past I used to process tomatoes the way I watched my Mom and grandmothers do it. Days/weeks spent in the kitchen canning jar upon jar. Eventually I ran out of time and couldn't keep up with job, family, processing vegetables raised from my garden, and other commitments. That is when I made the switch to putting tomatoes straight from the garden into freezer bags. SUPER simple and quick. I have used the blender to make the skin disappear, but I don't do that anymore because we don't prefer that consistency. I have frozen whole tomatoes, but they take up too much room and I don't like taking the core out after they are frozen. I now take the tomato core out and chop the tomatoes because I can get more into freezer bag. I have done it this way for over a decade and am pleased with the results. Results = the taste of fresh tomato salsa all winter.

DS13 is at work. DH volunteered to run a few errands.

I slept in sort of in slow mo mode but still moving.
Trash is at the curb.
Dishes are put away.
Did my habits.
C-19 #'s are up and some counties are recommending masks again and that was before the weekend gatherings.
I need a few things at the store so need to get that on the schedule this week. *
It is definitely a weird week.
Waving to all.

I bet you can use your tomatoes for tomato sauce, too, LadyM. My mother used to can tomatoes but the kitchen was always so hot I don't think we observed. And we were banned when the pressure cooker was going for sure.

One load drying in dryer, rest is folded and put away. LadyM reminded me I needed to ck my cherry tomatoes and I probably got 3 dozen. Not quite done with the last round harvested. Also reached into our kudzu vines and picked some of zinnias that have self seeded after I deadheaded. First zinnias of the season!

And I'm off.

thank you for all the prayers for the community of Highland park, Illinois! It's still a lot to take in. I think we are all in shock that so many innocents were killed or hurt.

hi d lady, hi d d twins,Hi d Nancy, hi d everyone!!!!

I am soooooooo late starting this morning - I am so sorry I can't respond but I wanted to say hi - HI!

My plans have changed for today. We had lovely rain yesterday but the rain and the sun brought incredibly humid and hot weather.
I don't think it will be safe for the dogs and I to work outside even though it would be a perfect day for weeding.
I will let the dogs run for a bit while I change their pool water and the birds water.

My d sis in law gave me dahlias to plant - I don't know if it's too late for our area but I am excited to see what they will be like.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Quiet day here! I forgot to go to the drugstore while out and just realized it. I can wait until the a.m. It is "feels like" 103 and I just hate to get into my car.

Upstairs, but mind not on working.

dahlias
What an awesome gift to receive! I love dahlias. I have about a dozen planted in the raised beds (between the vegetables) and they are blooming continually. They seem to do well in the heat. I cut the spent flower heads off on a regular basis and they just keep on blooming.

TMI warning......weak stomach? Skip this paragraph
DS13 arrive home cradling his hand with blood dripping from it. He learned what happens when he made a wrong move while using a Sawzall. He will be okay but is going to have a few days of sore hand while it heals. His anxiety was high, so I had him to lay down with hurt hand above his heart and an ice pack on it while the fan blew directly on his face. The fan blowing on my face helps me calm down when I have a panic attack. Anyway.... I have his hand bandaged, and he is ready to return to work.

I cooked chicken, rice, green salad and a big pan of mixed vegetables for lunch.

hello again - I can't believe it is 1:41 pm - shocker!
dh and dogs came with me to the bank, for coffee and to buy stone to finish the back dry river bed on Saturday. It's just too hot and humid for me to work outside.

trying to decide if I want to get more pea gravel as they were out at the rock center. I also need more mushroom compost. I could get it delivered but it would be too expensive.

d lady (((so scary))) so happy he has such a smart mother; knowing exactly what to do to help him! hope his hand heals very fast!
thank you for the information on dahlia's - they are newer to me and last years plantings didn't do anything. Thank you! I can't wait to see them bloom.
I gave using my freezer as some how it always got unplugged. after the last time I was finished with the big freezer.
well done on preserving your harvest!!!

d twins - you are right it is a slow day here!
I used to can tomatoes too - there always seemed to be a hot day when we did it.

hi d Nancy even with slow moving - you are getting a lot done!

I am going to put my feet up for a bit before starting in the house.
ta ta for now.

worst job that is usually set for Tuesday: Bathrooms - normally I don't look at it as a bad job but I think I am just tired. When I am tired the jobs always seem harder. Hoping that resting will give me renewed energy to work.
