I'm so happy it's September!! I started a challenge in the Café. To say I am looking forward to pruning/trimming the lazy neighbour's hedge would be an understatement.

Compost/garbage/recycling is at the end of the driveway. I had to put on a jacket to go outside this morning.

Dh said he would cut the grass. I am going to the Craft Guild.
We are having breaded pork cutlets along with green beans and potatoes from the garden for supper.

Home from taking DD11 to school.

I am not ready for this long weekend but here it is anyway. The first weekend of September is our little town's yearly fair. That means 3 days of activities. Today is Heritage Day which means all the old farming equipment will be in use. It is fascinating how they used to do things with the old equipment. Schools for miles around bring their elementary kids to watch the old equipment in action.

Tonight, I am running the kiddie cars ride at the fair. 50 cents to ride until I hit the switch to stop the antique kiddie cars going round and round.

In between Heritage Day activities and kiddie cars, I will do homeschool with DS14.

Dh is cutting the grass. I just did "most" of the dishes. I love the fact that dh has done the dishes twice in the past 12 days, but I have had to re-do them to de-grease them. I haven't said anything, because I made a huge fuss about him not helping me to do anything around here, but the dishes were greasy, and I can't stand putting dirty dishes away. There was even a chunk of something on the side of a butter knife.

Our local fair is next weekend. I want to go see the craft section. Now that my major competitor has moved to British Columbia, I might have a chance at a win, place or show next year. I have to get all of my stuff framed before I can submit it.

Dh just reminded me he wanted to go to Avon this afternoon and I said, "For why?" I'd forgotten he wanted to go to a meet and greet there of one of the gubernatorial candidates for this Fall. I really don't feel like going but told him I'd drop him and go to the super market while he's there. I'll just wait there for him to call me that he's ready to go. Of course this all depends on when/if DS-A has one of his workers coming with a truck to do some errands with dh today.

Dh put in about 4 hours yesterday, well scattered through the day, putting together a large grill for the campground. Guess whomever they bought it from was supposed to have it put together too. Didn't happen. His boss will put his hours in later when he returns to work. I'm so hoping that this change in his BP med will help him feel a lot better.

Dh talks with his DB every morning. Dbil is going through radiation right now for esophageal cancer and is having a pretty rough time. Dh has said more than once that he 'just hope he holds on till I get down there this fall'. It's not very easy as I know so many of you know first-hand, especially with them both going through so much.

I got 3 hours sleep from the time I went to bed and 5am. Got up then and took my thyroid med. Somewhere around 6 I fell asleep till just before 7. So managed a whole 4 hours last night. Arthritis was rearing its very ugly head most of the night. I have it in the joints of my toes and that will keep me awake beyond a doubt. It doesn't bother me every night but often enough and definitely last night!

Did the dishes last night and set the flatware container on the edge of the sink and boom down it went all over the floor. Managed to stab my arm with one of the falling knives. And because of the blood thinner I'm on it of course bled all over the place. I was a very unhappy camper, literally. Got blood all over the shirt I had on and have treated that trying to get it clean.

Am I ready for this long weekend? Well...yes, and no. It involves five scheduled days off work (four scheduled, plus the stat holiday), which is wonderful. It also includes the ongoing fiasco that is what getting a driver's licence renewed has become in Alberta. On my birthday - almost two weeks ago - I went to renew my licence. Oh what fun when my file came up on the screen, and the nice lady said I needed a medical, and had I brought that form with me? I had a medical five years ago because of using insulin to help control my diabetes. No medical conditions were noted on my licence, so I thought I could escape it this time. Apparently not. I went to the walk in clinic across the road, which it seems was closed on the weekends. I went to a different walk in clinic not far away. After a reasonably short wait, the receptionist took me back, and checked my blood pressure - 166/89 (definitely MUCH higher than usual!) First she shook her head and said I'd never pass the medical with those results (way to help me calm down!), then she said she could either try it again right away, or I could go for half an hour..try to relax, and she'd call my cell when it was my turn to see the doctor. Before I left, she did the eye exam, which must have been alright, because she didn't say anything. Off I went, drove around a bit, parked near a Macdonald's down the road, and took a whole lot of deep breaths. Then I was literally halfway through the lobby to buy an ice cream when she called! Back I went, only to discover that my blood pressure had shot up to 191/84!!!!They said I should check in with my family doctor about those results. I bravely went back to that clinic the next day anyways...and my blood pressure was 151/74! Not great, but definitely better! I got in to see the doctor. He started going through my test results stuff (from almost a year ago!), and declared that he couldn't pass me because my blood sugar was "out of control"! Yes, an A1C is high, but I wouldn't put it in the out of control category! If he'd looked a bit further, he would have seen that it was coming down from previous results. Besides which, the driver's medical exam only asks about hypOglycemic events, not hypERglycemic events! So that was it for that visit - the doc gets the last say. I called my own clinic the next day (Monday), and found that instead of the usual experience of being able to get an appointment with one of the docs the same day wasn't going to happen. I got an appointment the next day, and the doc found that my blood pressure was 140/86! While he was able to stand about and gab for quite a while about city council and other things, apparently he didn't have the time to ask the questions required for a driver's medical (probably less than 15 minutes). Back I went to the receptionist to find out what was the first possible appointment I could get for a driver's medical. I didn't care which doctor I saw (except one...I absolutely will not see that one doctor!). Seems the first appointment (from August 23) was August 31! Great...I work across the city, DH works nights and doesn't usually get home until about 8:15am, and I start at 8. DS couldn't help during the week, because - although he literally works across the road from where I work, he also starts at 6am! We managed to just barely muddle through until the 31, when I got a call from the clinic apologizing for the inconvenience, but the doctor was unable to be in the clinic that day, there was no other doctor that could fit me in, and their next available appointment would be on September 8?!?!?!? It doesn't help anything that as of September 1, my regular doctor was going on a four month leave! Don't get me wrong...she's an amazing doctor, and absolutely deserves a good long break, but the timing was utterly atrocious (my relationship with the locum taking her place is NOT off to a good start!)! Alright, then...let's give the other clinic another try. A miracle had occurred! The waiting room was empty! First, the receptionist told me I should be having my family doctor doing this. I'd love to, but she's just gone on a four month leave! OK then...did I have an appointment? Nope...this IS a walk in clinic. Then she asked me who my doctor was. I've been there several times, but don't see a specific doctor. Then she finally says that the doctor who is there today won't do a driver's medical for me because I'm not his patient???? This is a walk in clinic, and I'm asking for a medical service! Not even an unusual or complicated one! To say this is a frustrating and discouraging process would be an understatement!!

The receptionist yesterday told us to come back between 9 - 3 today...so we'll what happens. In the meantime, hubby will be home from work shortly, and there's a few things to get done:

- feed dstarving critters
- put away the clean dishes
- take out the trash, and put the black bin back (collection here is on Tuesdays)
- put in a load of laundry

Hopefully, my next post will be a happier one! From the sounds of Dee's post, she's having a challenging morning as well!

(((bittersweet)))) WOW! What an experience with something that seems to be so simple. I'm sorry you are having to jump through so many hoops to get your driver's license renewed.

I sometimes wonder if we should have more checks with driver's license renewal. I'm not sure if it is the same in all US states, but in my state once you pass the tests & get your license (16 years old) then there are no more tests or checks for the rest of our life. We simply pay a fee every 4 years or so to renew it.

I've been to the garden and harvested sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and squash.

I'm going to the fair to check out the Heritage Day events.

bittersweet, I am stomping my foot along with you. Not fair! Everyone you ran into seemed to have some reason not to help. Anyone can have a bad blood pressure reading when something is going wrong, or is upsetting, or timing hurried (and you had all three of those) - bad time to take it.

Here we must do the eye test and test on road signs, etc., every time. Since almost all are in high school when they start, I suppose the school medical is enough then. As far as medical for us as we go along - perhaps we are on our own to discuss with dr whether any condition precludes driving. I'm not sure.

Cathy, I love the arts and crafts section at fairs! Whoever I am with gets tired waiting on me.

I have gotten up early a/c woke me at 4:30 sigh.
Up in time for my stretching and did 45 mon. of that then walked dog was not going today so I just left her at home and took my walking stick.
I am wondering if cougars or badgers are in the area again.
I cooked veg. and eggs for later.
Back is needing a bit of icing, and I will soak my feet when I do that.
At least bs is great today.
Time for my next meds.

This weekend is just another day for me except my Bday tomorrow.
Yep I am ready.

It is my writing day and I have been working on that.
I will do a writing retreat to hot for much else.
I have food in the house. Did not go to the store.
Tried to do up eggs to devil sort of a fail.
One was not done only soft boiled so I had it with breakfast.
The other did not peel well so chilled the rest time will tell.

Wow Bsweet, what a debacle! My mother's blood pressure was like that, one day it would be sky high and another day not too bad. Here one only takes an eye test now and then.

I've been out to Sherwin Williams for paint for trim already, and they are painting downstairs. I got myself a latte and got a dozen doughnuts for them. I told them not to let me eat them all.

Talked to dd for awhile this a.m. and she sounds good. She wishes she could come home for Rosh Hashanah (we offered to pay) but she would rather not - I think the situation with the friend is weighing on her and she might see her at temple.

Turned out dh (finally) asked someone he bowls with about the latches he wants - and the guy told him where to find them at a cabinet place that would sell them. So all those got installed yesterday. I had thought that these guys wouldn't be doing the painting and I'd have a "free" day to put things away but here I am upstairs again. They're painting the ceiling too since light fixtures were moved.

It's past eleven here and I am still trying to gear up for the day.

Dh has left to go with one of DS-A's workers/truck to pick up a load of RV antifreeze in Brockport. After they bring that back and this guy unloads it they'll come back here and pick up 13 large bags of cans/bottles/plastic bottles to take to recycling place. Dh is still doing some recycling on his own. He called DS-A Tuesday about getting a truck & driver. Since he owes us quite a bit of $$ I'm sure he won't give dh any charge and will pay the 'guy' his hourly wage. Dh doesn't dare drive right now until we're sure he has no 'passing out' incidents.

We have one more 'longish' weekend here at the campground after this. They'll do Halloween later this month, then it's really wind down time. Kinda waiting to see if Dh will be helping with the water shut-down after the last weekend. If not, he'll be free to go to FL any time after around the 15th of October -which of course all depends on medical things. But since most of his medical visits/test/procedures are in the next 2 weeks hopefully we'll soon know SOMETHING. Cardiologist wants him to call as soon as he has the results from his endoscopy (which is next Friday). If that's ok, the Dr will start procedure for setting up hospital appointment for Cardioversion. At least that will be the first attempt at putting his heart back in rhythm.
