Short Sunday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's a short Sunday because we get an hour less somehow, or at least it feels that way. We'll have 5:45ish sunset on new time.

How will you enjoy the day? How do you adjust to "new time?"

how I wish we could stay to one time all year round! I do better at this time then I do when the hour is pushed ahead.
I will say I can tell the time by the sun easier in the summer time than I do in the winter.

younger dog stole my cream cheese off the table when I went to the bathroom! the other dog is looking at her (she went outside with it!). little stinker.
I don't have my shoes on otherwise I would go outside and get it. again... little stinker!

hello dear twins!!! good Sunday morning to you!!!

good morning to all!

Yesterday the barometer was very low and after my time out with d sis in laws for coffee I came home and slept - I had a sinus headache, which I don't normally get, and it was a massive doozy! Somewhere close to morning the headache disappeared - amazing. The barometer is still lower but not as low as yesterday. I am so happy.

for 2 days we had large amounts of wind and rain. I had to laugh when I woke up this morning as the raked lawn is not filled with leaves from our neighbors trees - all the other neighbors didn't get their leaves: probably because the leaves fell from the wind but the down pour dropped them on our yard. I don't mind as it will give me another reason to work outside but No One got leaves - no one  I found it actually fascinating.

ok: I have my list for the week

goal: leaves
set up some branches with dry leaves for animals to hide. keep leaves on beds - I should get some dirt or compost to put on top of them so they don't fly away.
clean out gutters
A+++++ job that I haven't done yet: Attic in garage
cleaning angels come on Thursday: I need tip
errand: pick up baby card and a bag or wrapping paper - drop off present.
write note
I made up a weekly list for dh and I to do together. He will be so happy 8-)
buy one Christmas present.
look for dh's presents on errand day.
clean a couple vents: kitchen, laundry room
clean spots kitchen, laundry room
put bedding on dd Youngers beds.

start bringing Christmas boxes up to 3 season room after floors are washed.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I think we're going to the river today - I think that dfriend w knee replacement is well enough to get back there, we need to check in with them about plans. Boat is out of the water so no boat ride today, unless they trailer and put it back in. Okay, looks like we're going over there around two.

I'm getting my calendar together for the week. I have Thurs Friday and Saturday with dh away but am losing Wednesday to meet dh's dsis and her dh in ATL for dinner. Not looking forward to the experience driving in ATL rush hour. They could have driven 1.75 more hours to see us but never have the time and dh keeps reminding them that he is not retired.

dh's cousin passed - a truly lovely man!!! We are planning to go the wake on Friday. Such a nice family.

I have had an uncomfortable underneath stressful morning for no reason. More edgy than stressful.
I feel like I should do so much more - I have days like this every so often - more likely bc the floors are dirty and dust is building.
I wonder if I washed the floors if that would make me feel like I accomplished something.

I am listening to Skipping Christmas by John Grisham (I had no idea that Christmas with the Kranks was based on this. I didn't like that movie but the book is better. Not something I would read again but I have already started it.)

menus have been planned for the next couple weeks (more or less)
Soup for this week; Pittsburg wedding soup - next weeks soup: mushroom barley soup
muffins and bread making those today
hoping to keep my menu simple

saying hello

hello d Nancy!
hello d twins enjoy the river!

hello d all!
dogs have been barking at the neighbors working outside so I had to bring them in.
my list is together for the week.
I need to balance it out.

Next: work on the floors left to right.
dinner: left over quiche from freezer, veg sausage, fried potatoes from baked potatoes left over, fruit

Monday:
usual kitchen and laundry room work/white laundry/leaves
grocery store shopping
Make a-1 shepherds pie and a salad

Tuesday: bathrooms
leaves
towels
coq au vin, buttered egg noodles, salad,

Wednesday:
desk day
anti procrastination day
clean vents in kitchen and laundry room
put away
leaves
penne with sausage and veg

Thursday: pick up croissants
cleaning angels
landscaper
Fish - depending on what is available: sole or halibut or salmon, rice pilaf , vegetables cooked
Dark laundry
buy Christmas present

Friday:
funeral
am: family room
Pittsburg wedding soup
cut up veggies
a protein for dd older and dh - bought.

Saturday: invited to craft show
Sloppy joes bought -

clean out gutters

French bread toast topped with goat cheese, sautéed red peppers and what ever it says
soups

make an apple tart for during the week

Blessed - Thank you for sharing your menu for the week. I was intrigued by the variety and googled several of the dishes because they were unfamiliar to me. They all looked wonderful.

I've had a smooth day with no major mishaps at home so far. We attended early church service and then small group studies. After church I prep/serviced seasoned pulled chicken, mashed potatoes, and fresh greens for lunch. DD46 stopped by for a visit, and we caught up on each other's doings.

This afternoon DH told me that my voice is off, and it is his opinion that my body needs to rest. DH knows me better than anyone in the world, so I listen to his advice. It has been emotional few days with multiple deaths in our tiny town and my body is feeling the loss/stress of it. I'm going to encourage myself to stay in the recliner with feet up as much as possible for the next couple of hours.

DD11 had a low grade fever yesterday with sinus congestion but has bounced back from it. I am a big fan of OTC Mucinex. Once again, within a day of taking it the symptoms disappear. DD11 doesn't easily swallow pills so I found Mucinex in liquid form for her.

DS14 has a friend here. They are tweaking the music system in his pickup which means the neighborhood is filled with boom boom rhythm sounds. I'm hopeful one of the neighbors will complain so the teenage boys will understand it isn't something that everyone enjoys listening to.

We can, we just have to move to the province/state that doesn't change time!

I'll admit, twice a year I think about it!

This weekend I learned that scheduling a sleepover on the Friday before the autumn time change is brilliant. I was exhausted last night but got an extra hour's sleep without eating in to my day today (and giving me lots of time before bed to 'settle' myself and the apartment after having basically 2 days with kids.)

Yesterday went well except I was really sore and tired. Dgs ended up sleeping in my bed instead of the play tent in my room, since dh wasn't here. He was asleep by 10 (and I go to bed when he goes to bed which was supposed to be 9 but we were running a bit late.) He woke up at 5:15 and never went back to sleep. So I didn't get a good last couple of hours in the morning.

We had been to McDonalds (with his mom and sister) the night before, picnicking in a park and then dropping the two at home. McD's no longer serves all-day breakfast here, so he settled for a cheeseburger. I'm still smarting from him not getting his hotcakes and sausage for his birthday dinner, so in the morning we went and picked up McDonald's for breakfast.

Then we headed off for bus riding and LRT riding (and picnic lunch), checking out the construction work on a new station in the south end of the city. We got back at 1:30 and then he spent 40 minutes washing dishes and toys for me, playing in the water and talking to himself the whole time. I took a rest.

In the afternoon we just sort of hung out after snack time and then it was time to take him home.

I had a quiet evening, tidying slowly due to my pain level.

Today I was hosting coffee hour so got to church on time easily thanks to the time change. I remembered my church name tag (which has been on the fridge for the past 34 months!) but forgot my poppy. I think I'll go get those out now.

It is so warm out, poppy wearing is complicated. There's no reason for coats these days and remembering to put a poppy on every time one leaves the house is hard. I usually put one on my hat so I don't have to think if there's a poppy on every coat. But I'm not wearing my winter fedora right now and have 3 sun hats so that isn't a solution.

I stopped on the way home and swapped out my Soda Stream cannister (it has been in the back of the car for almost 3 months which means the current one will run out soon!) Then I sort-of shut down. I had too much tea and too many cookies at coffee hour, forgetting I had not yet had breakfast. So my meals are out of sync for the day.

It was really warm when I woke up because I had the windows on the windy side of the apartment closed overnight (warnings of 50 mph winds.) I opened up this morning and didn't close when I left for church. Turns out the gusts came while I was at church and I came home to one door slammed shut, but more unexpectedly one door on the glass front bookcase in the hall was open. I'm guessing dgd must have opened it and not shut it fully because it has never blown open before.

The printer is working so I need to print off what needed printing on Friday and then post that sign. That will get me moving. My fitness watch is yelling at me to stand up and move around!

Interesting - I had no idea that there were places that didn't change time.
what a great idea of having your sleepover before time changed
it's amazing how little ones can get up so so early!
how nice that you hosted the coffee hour.
you had a very busy weekend!
have lovely night d Kathryn

hi d lady! one recipe is a Alsatian one that I have had since I was little with boiled potatoes, usually w a dijon vinaigrette salad on the side.
now a days they use it for dipping French fries or raw veggies.

the Pittsburg wedding salad is from cooks illustrated:

Meatballs:
2 slices hearty white sandwich bread, torn into pieces
1/2 cup whole milk
1 large egg yolk
1 ounce parmesan grated - about 1/2 a cup
3 TBL chopped fresh parsley leaves
3 med garlic gloves minced or pressed (about a TBL)
3/4 tsp table salt
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1 pd. meatloaf mix

using potato masher or fork, mash bread and milk in large bowl until smooth.
Add remaining ingredients (EXCEPT MEAT), mash and combine.
Add meatloaf mix and knead by hand until well combined.
make 1 inch meatballs and arrange on sheet pan and cover with plastic wrap.
refrigerate until firm, at least 30 minutes (MEATBALLS CAN BE MADE UP TO 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE)

Soup:
1 Tbl. olive oil
2 med. garlic cloves minced or pressed (about 2 tsp.)
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
1 large bunch of kale - I use spinach leaves. my dd's love the kale. - I like Kale in my daughters recipe that's like olive gardens soup Toscana
3 quarts chicken broth
1 cup orzo
3 TBL chopped fresh parsley leaves
s/p if needed

for soup:
heat oil in dutch oven over medium high heat until shimmering
add garlic and red pepper and cook until fragrant about 30 seconds at most
add broth and bring to boil
Stir in kale and simmer until softened - about 10 - 15 minutes
Stir in pasta and meatballs
reduce heat to medium
simmer until meatballs and pasta are cooked - about 10 minutes

stir in parsley
add s/p if necessary to taste.

Left over soup will last up to 3 days
it's a mild soup and my family likes it.

glad you had a smooth day!
so nice that your daughter stopped over
I am so sorry to hear of multiple passings of members of your community! I am thinking of all the families, their friends and the community as a whole.
I am glad you are resting
hope your dd feels better soon.
oh my goodness I had to laugh re: hoping for a phone call from one of the neighbors.
we had that with our 30 something neighbor - one of our other neighbors (or maybe a couple of them) called the police when their music went to concert level.

sending all of you a lovely evening.

---------------
on the dh front - he is hiding the vacuum cleaners again in his upstairs closet even after I told him he had to keep one downstairs. He is not happy and is using the dogs as the reason why he wants them upstairs. I decided to stand firm on keeping one on the first floor, but with an option. I showed him where he could buy himself a cheaper stick vacuum exactly the same as the one I have. I also gave him the option that he could take the old stick vacuum and give me the oreck, which I love. He is not happy with the choices but I have given him some choices.

I think he wants me to buy one for myself but as I don't think we need three vacuums I won't be doing that. (and this is why I bought my own drill etc).

I've already had to limit his say on the drill I bought. My d brother bought the same one for us at Christmas and dh took it but it but it is still hard for him to let me keep my own drill.
------------------
dogs are hungry already but I will feed them at 4:15 - or 5:15 their old time.
dh wants me to wait until the new 5 pm but they are already hungry.
