First Monday In December - PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's the first Monday in December! Christmas is less than three weeks away, Hanukkah begins two weeks from last night, and new years' day four weeks from yesterday!

So much is ahead of us!

Morning….

Movers come this afternoon and we fly home tomorrow. I love being in my hometown. I don’t have to think how to drive some place and this is one of my favorite times of the year.

Enjoyed watching the football game with my brother. Had a great time with my nephew and his family. Had plenty of “ pets” with my brothers Lab, Lily. Too bad it’s gotten so expensive to live here. Taxes are the worst in the country. Property taxes in my home town is close to 25k a year! Not much better in the surrounding towns. Think my moms 2 bedroom condo runs 12k a year.

Still home is home and I have enjoyed my time here.

I got up late (again! always?) and need to decide if I am going to the funeral. It's supposed to be rainy and cold and the temple sent a Zoom link yesterday. I really should go. So I'm getting in the shower and I'll go. Wearing a raincoat!

It is a lovely, sunny day here and I feel optimistic that it will hold productivity.

Last night I separated the breakable and unbreakable tree ornaments and found places for almost all the breakable ones, hopefully beyond the dgs1.75's reach but he keeps growing so I can't be sure!

Only a few won't be going out (including the fish from Zanzibar.) I'll post pictures when all done. Between using the china cabinet shelves and the idea I got from a FB post months ago, I've been able to handle (and hence enjoy) the precious ornaments.

Today's task is to move the plants from the corner where the tree goes. They are currently tucked in a corner in front of the window but blocked by my desk and a chair to keep dgs away from them. So rather than move them out into the room (which is what I usually do), I might move them into the office to avoid them being knocked over by an inquisitive toddler. I have two in the kitchen that I have to lift up onto shelves when he's here because he nearly pulled one down a week ago, so I know he's not to be trusted and these are in ceramic pots so could be sharp if they fall and break, not just really messy.

I might get the tree up, I might not. I'm looking forward to having its lights in that corner, so I probably will but I have a meeting tonight so may run out of time.

Lucylee: I love that your dgs worked so hard setting out Christmas for you. It is lovely that he wants to carry on with 'tradition' even if you aren't there.

I started this post over 30 minutes ago but then dh called. Time to get away from the computer, get the sheets into the dryer, start the next load of laundry, and get dressed.

The day is off to a smooth start. I am motivated and inspired by having the SHE cards grouped by location.

Today's big rocks =
** DD11 public school
** DS14 homeschool assignments
** Ladies Christmas party - I'm preparing a easy Taquitos & Mini Tacos Grazing Board to take. It takes more time & effort to decorate it than it does to cook the food.

My menu plan =5 Mini meals plus 1 main meal.
1. Cottage Cheese & Apples
2. Pinto Beans
3. Sweet Kale Salad Kit w/liver
4. Chocolate Milk Shake
5. Peanut Butter Tortilla Wrap
Main Meal = Taquitos & Mini Tacos

Good morning :)

I have Christmas on my mind. Still waiting for a few presents to be delivered. Yesterday a delivery came around 8:00 PM. I always try to remember to leave my porch light on after dark to make it easier for the drivers to see where they are walking. With tracking info it is easy to know if they are coming. If I were a driver I think I'd wear a headlamp so I could see all the unfamiliar walkways even with my hands full of packages. They sure work long hours this time of year.

I brought my Holiday Notebook down from the attic a while ago but never began filling it in. That will be my focus today. I'll pick out a few menus for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day & let dh choose what he prefers. New Years Eve it has become a tradition for us to nibble on several hot & cold appetizers for our dinner. Easy & fun.

Rose, I'm glad that you are enjoying family time with your dbrother & extended family while dealing with the difficult loss of your dmom. ((Hugs)) for Blessed for having to deal with difficult family members recently. I was glad to read yesterday that Lucylee's mom is improving after surgery & that Dee is feeling better, too. I also loved the Magic Key for Santa that Kathryn shared for kids without fireplaces. Great idea! :idea:

OK, for the second time I hear the sound of a big (delivery?) truck stopping outside. First time I watched the driver deliver a package to my neighbor across the street. Maybe this time it will be to my door. I've been hearing about porch pirates in the news so if I hear a truck I always check for deliveries if I'm expecting something.

~~~~ Waving to everyone, & all who stop by later. Hope you have a wonderful day! :)
Oh my, that may be one of the coldest funerals I've ever been to, considering 40 degrees and raining. Funeral was more than 30 min, maybe closer to 40, Afterward I shoved some dirt into the grave and visited a little and it was an hour and ten minutes I was out of my car. :shock: I stripped off my wet raincoat before I got in the car and hung it up at home. Boots are off, did not keep feet warm. I heated up tomato soup and made a grilled sandwich. I need warm comfort food!
Dh made it to the funeral and I think he will go to the Shiva, said not to cook dinner tonight. We have a quart of excellent tomato soup left if he's hungry.
I need to finish a.m. routine next. Think I'll set timer for 45 min and get to work downstairs, then I get to go upstairs.
I am following my plan and making steady progress.
Homeschool is almost done. The last assignment is "Reading with Papa". They are both reading the same book and then are discussing the chapters read each day. DS14 has read his assignment today but he is waiting for Papa to take a break from cutting trees so they can discuss it.
Tree is up and lit. Garland still to go on.
I suddenly got hungry so took a break.
On the house-blessing front, the bed is made with fresh sheets and fresh towels out. The sheets are washed and put away and the dryer is done so I should put away those towels as well. And I did a third load of laundry which is hung up to dry.
I need to refocus since the plants will need watering before dark which is only 90 minutes away.
