Simply Sunday PWYC

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

I'm awake but not creative.

It could be a snowy, snoozy, snappy, snazzy, simple, spiritual, stable, super, successful, stimulating, strong, survivable, silly, sharing, seamless, sedate, seeding, safe, or any one hundreds of other possibilities, Sunday.

May today be what you need it to be.

Rosie: I like the Talk to the Duck idea. I'm going to try to introduce it to dd's kids. Sadly they are completely unable to positively self-soothe themselves, and dgd can't play by herself, and a host of other distracting behaviours which doesn't help with the volume level at their home. Perhaps if dd can redirect them to a 'duck' (I'll have to think of what to use and how to implement), it will help her from getting interrupted and off task. Hers are OCD tasks so in a way it seems strange to allow her to complete them unchallenged but she is so frustrated that tensions are always running high in the household.

Dee: a weighted blanket would be dangerous for your dh. Mine has one (17lbs) and it has worked extremely well for him but he will have to go 3 months without it again as he's recovering from surgery because the weight will be too much for him to shift with his sternotomy. It is also unsuitable for elderly people with mobility issues, or on certain meds, or with a host of other conditions. Dsil tried the blanket while dh couldn't use it last time and didn't like it. It is not for everyone.

I'm afraid a separate mattress is what you need. I'm not sure if your room is large enough for this, but on the ship the bed is two singles (not twins) pushed together and a topper put over it to help with the crack. That is so the cabin can have either two single beds or a single large bed for two. I always slept better on the ship and wondered how much was the motion and how much was being away from dh's motion. As well, when we are on a king or even queen regular mattress, I sleep better than when I'm in the waterbed with him because his motion isn't transferred as easily to me.

As well, I again recommend the Nordic duvet use, where you each have a single duvet instead of shared blankets. This solved the problem dh had with me of stealing the blankets and now when I roll over wrapped up in mine, his remains unmoved. Ditto when I kick mine off. As well, we have different weights (his is currently a summer ultra-light, I doubt it weighs a pound but he also has the weighted blanket for additional heat) and mine is light weight. When we lived in the house where the bedroom was much cooler, I had heavy weight ones as well, but I've kept only one of those to use with the air mattress (or the hospital bed if we end up with it after surgery.)

My own parents had two twin beds pushed together to sleep in. They were easy to push apart for making the beds since each had its own linens, unlike the ship system which is made up like a queen or king sized bed.

****

I'm up and apparently at it.

Dh and I delivered the 340 newsletters last night. It took me 40 minutes to do almost 190 apartments. Dh was faster but asked that I not ask him to do it again, he had trouble. I started at the top and worked down, taking the stairs down, but he started on 2 and worked up so was walking up a flight of stairs every few minutes. It was too much for him. (Note: there was nothing stopping him from going up to 12 and working his way down, but he couldn't think that way.)

So far I'm not sore. I'm also paying attention to my GI system since I wasn't feeling well last night but it might have been all the bending in my slightly tight jeans massaging my intestines too much.

I need to get dressed now and do errand one of the day and then be back here for errand one of another person. I think I will skip church today since I'm not sure my system is stable yet.

Ds and dgs are coming for dinner. They have to come to town to pick up DC from her dad's after supper so proposed dinner here, cancelled, and then asked again when the other plans fell through. So I need to go to the grocery store and buy something to serve for dinner. I'm thinking of my orange and herb chicken recipe since dgs likes chicken and this is a company-style dish. I discovered it during the pandemic and have been using it when dh and I were having a special dinner at the table with our bone china and crystal.

I'm amazed ds asked to come back, the last meal I cooked for him was a disaster!

Quick check in - seems this weekend has gotten more social than I intended, but I'm coping. I slept in yesterday morning until ten while dh was out at Torah study, then we went to dfriends' house on the river to hang out. Very comfortable and easy there but we came home around six. We sat outside some, walking and tried out the horseshoes, started a 1000 piece puzzle, picked up barbeque for a late lunch. He's coming here this a.m. to help dh with some wiring outside so we'll cook brunch. I hope I still have some time to myself today. (I commented that she said she got workout leggings at Costco and dh immediately suggested we go therel later. No, No, and No.)

I made my step goal for last week. I need to spend time today organizing for the week. List of things to do, and need to look at appointments. Dh is out a lot this week in the p.m. three nights. On Monday night we're having dinner out with our neighbors.

I gotta get in the shower and get organized. They'll be here in an hour. I love them dearly but do hope for "down time" later.

I was dressed for my 9 a.m. alarm and had made my delivery. Also started a load of laundry

Walking over to the small building alerted me to two more tasks to add to my list. Sigh.

Someone is coming over in a few minutes for a drop off and pick up so I will step away from the computer.

I will be updating my Bullet Journal, next. I turned the page to make a note about this week and discovered I haven't put in the weekly spreads for Februrary.

Did some grocery shopping yesterday on my way to knitting. I needed to stock up the pantry a bit more, so now that is almost done. I just need to find powdered dishwasher soap which I can no longer find at the store where I always bought it. I will go to a different store tomorrow morning because I have seen it there.

I have the bed sheets in the washing machine. When dh went to Tim's for coffee this morning I washed the living room, kitchen and bathroom floors, but just the middles. After I stripped the bed I did the bedroom floor. Dh told me he had an issue getting out of bed on time during the night. Dh and I have a queen size bed, and the fitted sheet is shared. I have my own duvet, flat sheet and a blanket on top in the winter. Dh has his own blanket that he fusses with ALL night. Sometimes the fussing includes cussing, but I usually sleep through it. His side of the bed has extra padding underneath.

Dh is making cauliflower soup. He wants to add mushrooms, so I told him to put some soup into a separate pot for me before he does that. I am not a huge fan of large pieces of mushrooms, although putting cream of mushroom soup into a casserole doesn't bother me.

It's a gorgeous sunny day here with temps at plus 2 Celcius.

My day is off to a good start. I enjoy the process of focusing on each hour and knowing that I'm staying on track for the things that I want to accomplish. It still leaves me oodles of time for lollygagging & sidetracking, so I don't feel pressured or overwhelmed.

LucyLee - I look with longing at your system and wish something similar could work for me. However, I don't respond well to having a 15 minute task. I've tried and can do it for a time or two but the long term consistence isn't there for me. I have learned that I do respond well to doing ONE thing or focusing on something for 3 minutes. That seems such a ridiculously easy thing to do that I don't resist it. Once I get started then 99% of the time I choose to do much more. I wish I could do things without breaking them down into smallest chunks, but I have learned to be content with consistently getting things accomplished.

I've done my first 2 mini walks this morning. One of them was done inside the house and the other one was in the garden. The bulls are laying next to the fence. They are used to me being a few feet from them and ignore me. The pasture has low hanging clouds covering it and the dew is sparkling in the rising sun. I paused to enjoy the moment and wished a photo could capture the beauty.

Lunch will be lasagna, salad and bread. I am trying a new bread recipe. All ingredients are in the bread machine, and it should be done when we get home from church.

Oh, LadyM -- I had to reply quickly -- I have difficulty with 15 minute tasks also! Your idea is MUCH better. I will tell myself I only have to do 3-5 minutes on whatever, each hour's "focus," and see how that works.
Fifteen minutes DOES sound "doable" to me, so in my head, if I tell myself I only have to spend 15 minutes, it sounds a lot better than a booming order to CLEAN THE BATHROOMS! But 3 minutes/5 minutes sounds MUCH better.
Another problem I have is stopping at 15 minutes, which I think, the Flylady recommends to avoid getting burned out with zone cleaning, etc. But for instance, with the photos Friday night -- once I got started, I didn't stop till I ran out of pages. This took probably 30-45 minutes.

But I'm going to try your way -- commit to 3 minutes or ONE small task -- vacuum my half of the master bath, for instance... measure the pants that need hemming, get the stuff out for hair color. Like you said, that sounds ridiculously easy; how could I justify procrastinating on that tiny task?

* Exercising 3 minutes! Travel is VERY fattening to me. I ate a large bag of chips last night --
Bucee's homemade potato chips... if y'all have never seen a Bucee's (Buccee's?) travel stop... oh my goodness... google it. It's like the world's largest 24-hour truck stop. It's amazing.

But right now -- s2s and church.
Then it will be * HOPEFULLY * a SURVIVABLE SUNDAY for me. Lots to do, as usual... and I am extremely sleep-deprived at the moment.
Tomorrow is another day.

Morning….

I just got back from working at the dog shelter. Hard work but good way to get my steps in.

I have laundry to attend to. I’m really off schedule as I do mine on Thursday. Same thing happened last week. Am washing the mattress pad as well as sheets. I do t use a top sheet but Sweetie does, so I sleep on the top of ours. I also have my own blanket as well as the one we share which usually ends up mostly on his side. I just fold my blanket up and put it away in the mornings. I sleep better when I have weight on me and Sweetie doesn’t get that.

Am waiting for my son to call, but if that doesn’t happen in the next 20 minutes I’m going to take my shower. We are going to a concert this afternoon and I’m really looking forward to that.

I am up did my new tweaks to my retirement a m routine as suggested on a vid, on yt.
Routine Refresh happening for me.
The book had ideas I want to implement as well.
But only three at a time seemed to be my limit! LOL!

So I ...
1. Drank water
2. Splashed cold water on my face could not face a cold shower have to work up to that one.
3. Gratitude journal stuff in a small book I have for things I like not really big enough for stuff I write usually.

Type in Retirement Routine on the You Tube search look for the green one and channel name is Cyn Meyer
The title is 8 easy tips for creating an awesome morning routine.
She is a life coach for older folk.
I have been enjoying this channel.

Forgot to do my bujo yesterday oh well.
I am enjoying my new live your dreams devo.
Last nite I cut down some recipe cards to use in my card file for the routines and retirement
ideas quotes and such. I need to get some 3 x 5" cards. This is making it a fun journey.

I did my weekly review.
Put journal pages in my planner one mo. left of pages and will be out that makes me a bit sad as they are a bit of a challenge to find.
But on the flip side of that I have fun ones with spring theme flowers and such on them so YEA some thing to look forward to.

Gotta scoot and get dressed more on this topic later on. Learning as I go.

Nancy: thanks for the morning routine recommendation. I've found the page and bookmarked it to go back and look at later.

I've planned the meals for February and made up a grocery list. I've also updated my bullet journal for this month and put the March monthly page and 2 weekly spreads since dgs1.9 arrives on the 1st and stays until the 10th so I want that front and centre in all my time management planning.

Dh suggested going to Costco this afternoon so I have company on the grocery (I was planning on going alone.)

Next up: hang up the load of laundry I started and forgot about, then keep tidying and noting things to be done until dh is ready to leave.
