I didn't have a satisfying evening last night. When we left to go pick up friends for art festival preview party, I was digging through my purse and realized I didn't have my wallet. While dh's new, bigger car moving. And I got so carsick. I laid down at dfriends' house but finally broke down and wept there that wallet was missing, and that digging through my purse up close probably made me sick, and that I do things like that, and feel like I'm losing it. I can do genealogy at a professional level but can't remember words and can't keep up with my wallet. Dfriends were very sympathetic and dh we should go home for the evening. Meanwhile I had called nail salon where I had pedicure and they didn't have wallet, and dh had checked and there weren't any charges on it credit cards. So once home (I was deathly ill again by the time we got home) dh checked my car and there wallet was. So ruined evening, sick, and dh "frustrated" with me.

This morning, he's going on to Torah study for a short while, in part to get VIP bracelets for festival from dfriends. I need to run to nail salon to get nail fixed. I'm determined that I won't get all anxious about cleaning this a.m.

My goals are:
-vacuum main areas
-some porch clean up, but it's still pollen season so not knocking myself out
-get nail fixed that dog stepped on, if possible
-hang some more pictures, we still have several down from painting week (after dh gets back home and I'm back home)

I need a shower. I took one before we went out last night but being sick made me sweaty and I feel gross.

Colleen Hoover, from the ones I’ve read, is basically a mystery/thriller/romance author.

Here is the rest of the story behind my question…. A week ago, we were at Sam's when DD11 asked if she could get a book. I said yes and she picked a book out and put it in our cart. DD11 read it within 2 days and commented on how good it was and how much she enjoyed it. She told me about a 3 minute overview of the book and its many unexpected plot twists. On the way to DD11 counseling appt this week we stopped by the library to get her some more books to read. She didn't find any by that author, so she left the library empty handed. After DD11 counseling appt we stopped by Wmart and DD11 felt like she hit the jackpot because she found 8 books by the author of book she just finished reading. DD11 was so eager to continue the book series that she started reading before we even got out of the parking lot!

She was missing one of the books of a series, so I decided to order it for her. THAT is the point I discovered this author writes books that are not geared toward 11 year olds. I immediately felt stupid for assuming books sold at sams & WM were kid friendly. In my research I found the author has a website where she gives age recommendations for her books. The youngest recommended age is 14….argh which included book that DD11 has already read and loved. I printed that recommended age list off and told DD11 that she could read the books by Hoover that are recommended for 14 years old. We found 3 books by this author that are rated for adults only in the stack of DD11 books, so I have removed those.

I personally haven't read any of these books, so I am just going on recommendations that I found online. I really don't want to be the book police, but I also don't want to fill DD11 mind with things before she is ready. I find myself wondering if I am being over cautious. Overprotective? I wish books had ratings like movies do. Are parents expected to research every book before their child reads it?

LadyM don't let her read either Danielle Steele or E. L. James until after she gets married. Both authors are very "dirty". I call them "bodice rippers" because they literally have clothes being ripped off. You are such a good mom!

Woke up to the smell of dh burning his toast. Then I had to get dressed quickly because he needed to get a car back to a customer. It wasn't even 9 o'clock. He asked if we had anything important to do today and I asked if he looked at the calendar. He hadn't. Sigh... I think I should go back to bed.

It's extremely foggy here and pouring rain.

I have only read my devo have not had time to read this month.
I slept great up at 6:00.
Bs is good today yea!
I luv my new shower curtain with plants on it mostly cactus the colors go with my bathroom happy with that.
Watching a robin put nest additions on her nest in the trees out in front of the window.
I am thinking of my breakfast eggs seem to be priced better these days.
I have not done any planning yet.
Hopping to get some more done in the backyard.
i have been looking for a wheel borrow light not a heavy duty construction one I cannot lift them but have not been able to find one,
also solid tires that I do not have to fill with air. So far no luck maybe I can thrift one.
LM maybe you can read one of those books and see what you think of it.

Not satisfying yet but there's still a few hours left in the day.

I'm still in my bathrobe at the computer.

Yesterday was a complete loss.

I forgot my pills in the morning so couldn't take my ADD meds by the time I remembered.

I was asked to meet with a neighbour (who as been really helpful to me) and that took up 90 minutes. On the plus side, he wanted a pulse oximeter too, and I phoned the store that had the one I wanted to confirm they had two and he went and got them for us.

Dd wanted to come over so arrived 30 minutes after I got back. There went the day until 3:30.

At that point I still had to clean up after dd and dgd, so at 5:30 pizza was reheated and while that happened I vacuumed the office, living room and hall.

Then when we were having dinner, I knocked 16 oz of sparkling water and grenadine off my side table and hit the recycling, bookcase, table contents themselves, and two filing frames full of folders. On the bookcase were my binders with notes from all my volunteer jobs. That took 30 minutes to get under control enough to eat our now cold pizza.

Finished off an odd but intriguing TV series (Landscapers - British, Olivia Coleman, artsy, only 4 episodes, based on a true story.) I think it was too disturbing for me because it affected my dreams Thursday night and odd thoughts keep coming into my head even when awake.

Wasted the evening (except I did manage to queue up all the pieces from that were played at the open rehearsal and listen to them in order and I enjoyed that.) Spend hours deciding what to do with Pierre our Ficus Benjamina. He's about 20 years old and is doing poorly right now. I read and watched a lot of videos about what to do and then took some time too look at him. It seems to require a change in the arrangement of the living room smaller furnishings in order to get him away from the patio door. Where I want to put him will give him more light but it means finding a home for my 150 year old sewing machine (in a cabinet) and moving a large number of our other plants (at least they aren't trees so are easier to move!) and hoping the movie screen can still work in that corner of the room (cuz that's the only place it can be set up in the living room and still have the sound come from near the screen.)

Now I'm anxious to get going on that but I still have all the real deadlines I need to work on.

This morning, I got up and going just fine but the living room was still a disaster so I put all things back on the bookshelf (I had to move it out) and replaced the felt on the bottom of the table (the others had come off in the wet.)

And then I just delved into distractions online.

I need to shower and wash my hair today or just shower and then shower and wash hair tomorrow. Because of the hair appointment, I haven't showered since Tuesday, just sponged bathed and I'm feeling grungy.

I'm done, stick a fork in me. Public areas vacuumed and that's all I'm doing. LadyM, the thing is that I don't have to go at this speed. I could have used my time better this week and I don't have to get so anxious about it. But, apropos of tax season, I work best under a deadline and once my mind gets going I can't stop.

I'm showering now. Skipped taking care of the nail that dog ruined after pedicure. Whatever.

LadyM, I wouldn't censor books myself. My mom never paid attention to some that she had in the house (bodice rippers, from when she had time to read) and I was such a voracious reader that I read everything. If you're concerned, discuss with dd and therapist and get his/her recommendation. Or discuss the mature themes with dd so she knows it's not "real life." I was always bored with books at my reading level, and would read anything I got my hands on.

Morning….

The first adult book I ever read was Gone With the Wind in 6th grade. The first sexy book I ever read was Forever Amber sometime during high school, if I can remember correctly I was in 10th grade and I got it from my grandmother. It was written in 1944 and was banned for awhile but I didn’t know it at the time. It is an historical novel with an amazing love story and I have reread it many times. I don’t keep books I buy very often because I don’t have a reading room. But it is one of the books I’ll never let go of.

I read a lot of adult books with some sex in it by famous novelist during the 60’s while in high school, plus all of Leon Uris and Robert Ludlum. Then I started reading all of Victoria Holt and all other of her pen names. Then I moved on to Edward Casey the spiritualist, all by my early 20’s. I loved Jacquelins Suzann and other authors like her as well. What is strange although I read hundred of books a year since then, these authors stay in my mind.

I gifted myself some special time this morning by watching a series on HBO and drinking my coffee in bed. Haven’t done that forever and it was wonderful. I’ve already vacuumed and mopped part of my floors and fold a load of laundry. Have another one in my washer to do, and another load after than. Can’t do any more than that because I’m out of detergent

Watered my sunnies and my lanai plants. At some point I need to color my hair and get my steps in. My clothes are a delight to wear and I look forwards to wearing them! It’s my son’s and ddil’s wedding anniversary today and tomorrow we will visit and bring them their gifts.

Wanted to add ditto to what Twins said, and for me she said it so well, about reading certain books. My mother never paid attention to what I read and like Twins I got really bored with some books.

We didn't get up very early so we just had breakfast -uh.....that would be brunch since it was noon! I cut up some leftover salt potatoes (which weren't really 'salty') and cooked a couple of eggs.

Dh said he felt the best this morning that he's felt in the past few weeks. He went to a funeral last night with our dcampmanager and they ate heartily. It was simply a celebration of life and a meal. But he had worked all day and then that trip out. He could barely walk last night. D helped him inside and we got him settled. I'm concerned because his weight keeps creeping up however. He's gained almost 5# this week and that's with all the extra lasix. I keep wondering if he's going to end up in the hospital. Supposed to call his DR back Tuesday morning (only because the Dr is away till then) and let him know what's happening. I'm sure if his weight keeps going up Dr will be doing some drastic measures. It was also a very tough day for me and I had some meltdowns. We were both very tired last night.

We plan to go to DS-A's later to meet our DGD's boyfriend. Dh is especially eager to meet him as he's in the same line of work as DH was for the government. We're going around 4pm and having ice cream sundaes. Going to take dh's shower gear so he can get a shower. Head of maintenance AKA -dh's boss- told him this morning they'd try to get the laundry room/bathhouse on our side of the park turned on earlier this week. I hope so -I definitely have Mt Washmore going here. Going to stop on the way to pick up Ant spray or something and perhaps sticky traps for mice. Troubled by both this year. Especially the big ants. We're constantly chasing them down.

I read many books that were above my age level, but none of them had hard core s__ in them. I remember the first time I read the book "in (or at) the Waterfront or something like that, by some famous author...I don't remember details of it, except that reading this book was an eye opening experience to me. I learned that not all books are uplifting to read, which surprised me because everything I'd read before that, even if too adult for my age, were wonderful to read and a positive experience. Gone with the Wind; The Valley of Decision; The Silver Chalice. I did look at what the girls were reading and they were all fun books except there is one pre-teen author I do not like. They'd brought home one of hers and I read it too and we talked about it, deciding together that her attitude in that book was not good and together we decided not to read any more of hers. Yes, I'd monitor loosely what my kids read. I think that's our job as parents. Do we let them go to X or R rated movies? Or unattended mixed parties? Course, I don't read stuff like that myself these days! We get plenty of that stuff unbidden in culture today anyway.

Been taking it easy today. I have a whole basket of ironing to do and I'm putting it off. Well I guess I better get to it.
