When we're up, we're up, and when we're down....we don't post.
So we'll post when we can, while we can! I miss the board and my friends here so much when we're down!

Walked two laps with the dog and it's humid and I'm dying already. T-storms later today too.
Pork chops for our dinner, probably with a baked sweet potato and salad or broccoli. I'm working out at two.
I had a breakthrough yesterday (nothing like reading the directions, huh?) so I think what I'm working on becomes clearer, thank goodness.

Hi.
Slow but possible to post. Am on phone now.
Been trying to say what I chatted about back on Thursday, that dd24 did all that laundry and prep here. She flew out Tuesday for a week with fiancee's grandmother and aunt. Time with his cousins, meeting some littles.
I won't have her present until maybe Wednesday? Not sure.
Twins', we were not supposed to have rain and it was so hot yesterday. I watered and watered. Then it rained a good bit last night!!! But yes hot enough to worry about hydration. They said on TV "and summer is just starting". True.

Re: When we're up: Thursday PWYC
I am up and at em today since five - ish.
walked ddog. Found black berries and had some that was a great part of summer I enjoy!
The crew is here - I fetched a level for them. One guy is different the got lined up on what the specifics were on the work to start with. I may have a deck but no steps by tomorrow. They are using the small table for charging up their cordless tools.
Some planning happened. Journal in the evening.
-----
They are doing the undercarriage part of the deck not sure what that is called.
Stained the wood for the supports are drying.
Thawing out sausage cheddar dogs for lunch for two of them they like it and do not have to stop for lunch & can get out of the heat earlier.
Gma do you have a level? Yes fetch it from the basement.
Later hay gma do you have a tape measure? Yes in my kit. tool drawer used to be junk drawer but it was gone from last week.
So got another one from the basement in a caddy lh had hanging on the wall.
I may need to replace some of these but I rarely use them.
With job sites in various locations makes is a challenge and crew being on one job one week a diff. one the next.
But the good news is I am only 5 min. from the main shop home of sil the contractor so if they really need something they can pop over the hill and get it easily enough.

Re: When we're up: Thursday PWYC
I've been texting with DD46 as she works through the massive amount of repairs to be done to the home she lives in. Due to the hail damage it has to get new roof, new siding, new windows, fascia, refrigerator, and home a/c. This is doubled because the damage also occurred on unattached garage/shop building. Also both vehicles had damage and has to get windows replaced and dents removed. ANYway, I was telling her DD46 the insurance company pays the bulk upfront, but it holds into reserve a portion of the money to make sure the repairs are finished. Once the repairs are done then the rest of the money is released.
I was surprised when Harmony posted about a friend that is going through challenging times because she had
I processed the couple dozen ripe tomatoes that were on the counter. It makes me happy to know how much those will be enjoyed during the winter months. I have a large bowl filled with peppers that are waiting to be processed next.

Is that normal everywhere? I had never heard of it but know insurance policies are constantly evolving. I wonder if it will eventually be like that here too.unpermitted roof repair and is now denied insurance.

LadyM, I don't know about everywhere, but because of our insurance and storms here just about everything has to be permitted and it's not going to be permitted unless all the building components are engineered. Cement is certified to have a certain PSI, windows, doors, all engineered to withstand a certain wind load. Roofs are especially looked at, gauge of metal on a roof is certified / engineered, shingles certified. Everything is tested and is assigned a tested number. Every few years they update the Southern building code windspeed and everything must be tested to that speed. That stuff determines what length/type nails have to be used and the nailing pattern. I could go on and on. Major elements like roofing, windows, doors, are especially looked at by an insurance company. They don't know if it's been installed to code unless there was a permit and passed inspections. And insurance companies won't insure a roof without a permit and inspection.
We better not get caught doing stuff without permits in this state. Anything structural. I think we're allowed paint and tile, grass seed, dumb stuff like that without permits! We're always amazed when we see how states like Louisiana are able to build. Florida would not survive these storms if we built like that. I know up north people only get permits for plumbing and electric I think. They wouldn't be doing that if the insurance companies refused insurance. So definitely not everywhere.
Structural. I have structural grass roots around that last planter. So tough it was a challenge to get them out. I was clearing everything out at the bottom so I could paint and worked a couple hours on it and got that part done but then it started to sprinkle. So, painting will start tomorrow if the weather holds. I'm all cleaned up from that work and soon off to treat all my blisters.

Harmony - Interesting! Thank you for explaining that so well. It is totally different than here. The only thing that is firmly regulated here are septic systems. They must be designed, installed and inspected by a state certified person. Even a licensed plumber isn't allowed to install septic systems here.
I can see the wisdom of having highly trained people do construction, but I would be surprised if it happened here. Thinking about the crew that DS14 works with. They do all kinds of interior & exterior construction including roofs, plumbing, electrical, etc No one that works for DS14 boss is licensed. When their work is finished the buyer usually hires an inspector and their work always passes with minimum problems.
DH and I made a trip to the city to get a prescription. While there we did a freezer & pantry restocking shopping effort. $400 of food used to be a lot more than it buys now. Some of the food items I have stopped buying because they have become so expensive. I try to buy basic staples of real food because they are both healthier and more cost effective.

I worked out - I'll be surprised if I'm not sore tomorrow, at least in the abs. I always get a good workout and feel good about it there. I went on to the bank and deposited a temple cemetery check and treated myself to an iced latte. Also went by the temple to look through the temple paperwork. She scans everything and sends to me but very occasionally misses something, or I accidentally delete an email.
Dog is outside sunning. I'm going to try to delay her walk as long as possible. It's hot out there. I'm at 7900 steps for the day so I'm in good shape.

You have a tool drawer in your kitchen gma? Yes don't you doesn't everyone?
They had to take one of the decking boards back b/c it was the wrong color got others and one extra "just in case" & they can take it back if it's not needed! I gave dgdson the other skill saw I found in the other shed, an anniversary edition one the foreman was drooling over it! LOL!
So now I have more room and getting the shed and shop a bit cleaner is a win win for me!
I think I"ll look on Penterest for deck decor ideas.

There's no place like home! There's no place like home!
We had a marvelous breakfast overlooking Lake Ontario with a busy marina in front of the windows. Dh came home. I went to knitting. Troublemaker wasn't there and I got love and support from every woman there. I brought the file box full of financial information and invited everyone to come and take a look. Nobody came anywhere close to the end of the table to take a closer look. The only person who showed any interest was the former treasurer. She liked what I had done and said we certainly have different styles. Apparently she had been accused of numerous things over the years as well. Ah, well. I know that every woman in the room supports me and a lot of them said they were disgusted with her behaviour.
After I got home from knitting and some grocery shopping, dh said he wanted to take a run to the landfill, so off we went. Seems he also went to the scrap yard while I was at knitting. We got some fly killing spray while we were out. All cats got put outside so we could spray the house. They weren't allowed back in for a couple of hours. I have all the fans and air conditioners on, plus the ceiling fan in the living room.
It's an absolute delight to get hot running water from the tap almost as soon as we turn them on. I'm going to have a nice long shower.
We have a tool drawer with a few other things in there. Tape, elastics, bread tags and batteries. Oh, and a black magic (Sharpie) marker.
