Re: Monday Make it PWYC
I don't know if I am having some improvement in how I feel. I still feel like cr*p with the sore throat, coughing and minimum voice. However, whether I stay down or continue my normal doing, I will still feel like cr*p. So, I might as well get some things done so I can get those "feel good" hormones from accomplishments.
I've been to the garden twice to get my hourly steps. I watered the sweet potatoes and cared for the rabbits while walking.
Personal AM cards have been accomplished and both kids are up and going. Today is the last Monday of summer. Next Monday we will all be doing school.
My biggest priority of the day is to get DS15 homeschool lessons planned and on his calendar. The curriculum books I ordered are due to arrive today. If they aren't what I hope, then I will have to go back to the beginning and start again on the curriculum selection. #Hopeful
I took a deep breath and took a peek at our weather forecast. Nope. Nope. Nope. The 10 day forecast still shows triple digit temps every day. I'm looking for that break in the heat that will eventually show up....but just not yet.

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
It's a holiday here in Ontario. Almost everything is closed. Because it is the Niagara region, there are numerous places open closer to the Falls. I know there is at least 1 grocery store open, but we don't need anything for tonight's supper.
I have decided we are having spaghetti and meatballs. Dh kind of wanted tacos, but we need lettuce for those. I told him they can wait until tomorrow. He also wants fajitas, but we just had steak last night. I think he really wants both of those because the stuff for them is still on the island. Maybe if I put the stuff away, he will forget they exist in our house.
Dh says it absolutely poured over night. It's windy and it looks like there is more rain coming. I have all the fans and a/c on. It's very humid right now.
I got most of the dishes done yesterday and there is 1 load in the dryer waiting to be put away.
But first... I'm going to have a shower.

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
Morning...
On Saturday morning I spent several hours at our community pool talking with friends. We just get into the pool and walk back and forth in one of the lanes talking about a variety of things including books to read and what shows we are watching.
Came home and did a variety of things around the house that needed t o be done.
Yesterday I woke up with my back itching like crazy!!! Asked Sweetie to look at it and he said I had a bunch of bites back there. And as the day progressed I had a bunch of other bites show up on my legs and arms and one on the top of my eyelid. All of them itched like crazy which is no surprised because I am highly allergic to mosquitos and other bug bites. Had to take Benadryl to help with the itching. The cream I have for itching didn't help much.
This morning many the bites on my back are extremely painful to the touch. I need to do a grocery run but know my bra will touch all those painful bites. I do have a denim dress that I think I can wear because I know I won't be able to wear a bra. Didn't go to my class this morning for just that reason.
Our weather is hot here as well, but not as bad as LadyM's. Yesterday I striped and changed my bed and remade it with clean sheets. I also did two loads of laundry and put every thing away. I have a few other things I need to do around here, but even with a tank top, moving around just sets off the pain in my back. Know I'll be wearing bug spray whenever I go out now. I must have some really sweet meat that these bugs like!!!

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
hello d lady! thank you for starting us! have you seen a dr. yet? or are you trying to let it resolve itself? Hope you start feeling better soon!!! I would love to know how you teach for things you don't understand. I struggle with math and sciences outside the biology spectrum. phyics is a definite no for me.
How do you find the books and the curriculum to fit the states requirements. I would love to learn! I wish there were classes for me that I can do online that didn't cost like a college course. too expensive to me.
praying your weather cools down!
Good morning d rose how nice to visit your friends and have a good swim! Could your bites be no see ums?
have a good day!
hi d cathy
hope you enjoy your day and that the humidity drops!
hello dear everyone!!!!
time for me to focus!

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
Blessed...
Don't know about no- see-ums around the pool, but I plan to ask my friends. The bites are acting the way I react to mosquitoes .... big and weepy after I scratch them. I first discovered no see ums when I first stayed at Sanibel Island a while back and yes they did attack me. But, don't recall having this kind of reaction.
No-see-ums usually show up during dawn and dusk times and I was out in the sun at 9:00am. No-see-ums act like mosquitoes...The females are the ones who bite and inject their venom under your skin. The larger the welts get, the more blood pools near the skin’s surface and form a red splotch 2 inches in diameter. Unlike other bug bites, this bite grows until it becomes larger than 2 inches.
I'm not sure how big my bites are,I'll have to ask Sweetie, but I'm not ruling out No-see-ums. I have the same reaction with mosquito bites so its hard for me to tell.
When I am playing bocci ball, I am outside right next to a lake and I haven't been bit. However the next time I join my friends for a walk and chat in the community pool, I'll be wearing my long sleeve sun shirt, and plan to wear plenty of bug spray while I am out in my yard.
Recently, FL has had several cases of Malaria and I don't want to experience that

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
Unfortunately, I'm still thinking through the day and lollygagging. I've been up since 7:45ish and walked the dog 4K steps, and I've cooling down.
I think highest priority is to get the passport renewal application to the post office. I went ahead and paid for priority because I'd like to apply for Global entry also, and the passport has to be enclosed for that application, as I understand it.
Aside from that I should do house blessing today - as much as I can stomach at least. I need to have breakfast/brunch first, tho.
Yesterday we were with dfriends at the river. No boat ride, tho, it was cloudy and then stormy later. We took shrimp from Costco and the squash casserole, they put out cheese, chopped liver and crackers and we grazed for lunch. At dinner we ordered online from a restaurant/bar and dhs picked up. We had a good time catching up and visiting, played a game "Thinking and drinking" which consisted of card questions that everyone answered. Was a good conversation starter too.
Wow, just looked at weather and the entire east TN area has a tornado watch until 7 p.m. today. Should get to post office early, not late!

Re: Monday Make it PWYC
Oh Blessedw2 - you are asking for a lot of information.
I won't bore you with the long version of how I do it.
The short version -
** I use our state Academic Standards to decide what classes are required to be taken if DS15 was in IRL public school. As a homeschooler we are not required to follow the public-school standards, but I choose to do so.
** I used this standard to create DS15 high school transcript. I planned out what classes he would do in which year of high school.
** Now we are just following that plan. Simple, huh? NOT really.
** I choose the curriculum that best fits the class and DS15 learning style.
There are thousands of curriculum choices. Thankfully very smart people who know how to teach are available for all classes. It is just a matter of finding which fits DS15 best.
Did you know you can attend most of the Universities (including ivy leagues) for free? Of course, if you attend free than you don't earn the credits. You can audit the classes and gain the information. The classes are online and freely available. Most of the ones that I've taken also include a online study group where you can chat with others taking the course. The sources available to learn a subject is almost unlimited.
DS15 took two online courses last year though universities. He did not earn college credits for the classes, but he did well with the studies. It was the well taught classes giving information I was seeking for him. I haven't finalized this year's lessons yet but will probably be doing one or two online classes given by universities.

Cathy - that sounds sooo good.
Curriculum books have arrived. I have one week of lessons planned for 2 classes.
I had to press pause on doing that because DS15 replacement phone arrived. I am setting it up now with security and software that keeps it under parental control. Also restoring all apps and settings from his broken phone.
