Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
It wasn't supposed to rain until this afternoon, but we have been listening to thunder for the last 20 minutes and despite the splashes of blue sky and the promise of sunshine today, it is now raining. (... And now it has stopped)
Today is the first day that we have woken up where it wasn't chilly in the cabin. The coldest we woke up to was about 56°, today it was 66°. Yesterday, after sitting in the sun for about an hour, I was actually hot for the first time after arriving here. On Thursday, I never warmed up and neither did the cabin, despite having the heat on for a while. It was only 65 at the end of the day and when we left to go to town for a walk, shopping, and dinner, it was still only just 60°. We were both shivering despite having sweaters on.
The rest of our stay will be normal temperatures cool overnight and hot in the daytime. I might even get in to swim later today as long as the storms stay away. Dh was looking forward to an early morning paddle (he's been waiting for it to get warmer or sunnier before heading out each day) so he's disappointed with the thunder.
How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
That took 20 minutes to write and send since my wifi kept coming and going.
I will have lots to say when I get home. But for now it is too annoying to try and post.

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
Kathryn - Thank you for the start today. I have been missing your posts while hoping your time at the lake is filled with treasured memories.
My PODA -
** Gym with DH. While on the treadmill I have been watching the Netflix show that Harriet recommended. I am finding it very interesting.
** 1-4pm Attend DH school alumni gathering. Although I didn't attend this school, I will know a lot of people because it is only 5 miles from the school where I graduated. I am looking forward to catching up with many lifelong friends. I suspect Mr Social DH will know (and talk) to every single person in attendance.
** 7-10pm attend fair. I'm not sure how much time DH and I will spend there, but I know the kids want to squeeze every minute that we will approve. Last night we let both kids stay after we left, and they came home together at 10pm.
My home keeping efforts -
** Team up with Henry. Vacuum the main rooms.
** Kitchen - Clear & wipe down the sink, counter, and stove top. Remove everything from the freezer middle top sliding tray and clean well. Organize items before returning them.
** My bathroom - Swish & swipe, vacuum, and hand mop
** Keys - Finalize that project! Make labels for the vehicle backup keys. Find video that shows how to program the key chip for the 2012 pickup. Do it!
Food -
** Make Biscuits and gravy
** Make meatloaf and mashed potatoes
** Make another quart jar of chopped garden vegetables from garden and cover them in a sweet vinegar brine. Cucumbers, tomatoes, beets, bell peppers, onions, sweet potatoes.
Garden -
** water and harvest. There is an abundance of peppers and tomatoes. I can't keep up with them. Also, daily harvest of cucumbers and sweet potatoes.

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
It's cooler here this morning, but we are supposed to have a record breaking week coming up.
Dh was out on the patio as usual, but it was too cold for me. We decided to get our bottoms in gear and go to a farmer's market south of us. What a disappointment. Before 2020, it was a bustling (?) place with tables outside all around 2 small buildings. Today there were tables that were empty. Vendors that weren't busy looked bored stiff. There was one vendor that had a line up of more than 20 people. He was inside a building and had mostly deli meat and cheese. All the other vendors in that building had no customers and cases with next to nothing in them. Two vendors that we used to go to all the time weren't even there. I doubt we will go back as it isn't exactly close to us, but I want to do something other than watch dh sit at his computer all day. Now we are home and he's at his computer. To be fair, I am also at my computer...
Time to get up and do something.
Supper tonight will be salmon with a lemon dill sauce and rice with green peas. If you aren't here by 5, you will be too late.

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
So I spent an hour going over prepaid cell phone plans since my cell phone annual plan expires tomorrow. DD discovered that the plans expires at midnight and left on a trip thinking she had an extra day to update the credit card. She ended up with no cell phone service at all and thought her phone was broken until she finally received a text from the service provider saying "by the way your credit card has expired."
Her nightmare scenario of no connectivity while on a road trip let me know that I would not have cell service on my drive home tomorrow since my cell plan expires at midnight tonight.
I had been on a 360 day plan and I have switched over to a 30 day plan for now because it gives as much data as I need over 30 days. Because I used so little data, only 20GB for the year, getting only 5GB a month works out to be cheaper than the annual plan. Most importantly since it is month to month I can change at any time to a different plan if I need more data or if I need I get an 5g phone since this plan is only for 4g data speeds.
Miraculously I managed to maintain Wi-Fi service through the whole process on my phone without having to go to the lodge. That does mean I'm not dressed yet though!
I have baked six muffins (plain pre-made refrigerator ones from home that I add assorted extras too) and two croissants (frozen ones from Costco) this morning. I won't bake muffins tomorrow because of the cleanup as we are trying to get out of the cabin but I will do the croissants because they just have to be put on a baking sheet. To make things even easier I brought parchment paper so the sheet just needs to be wiped down even if I burn the bottoms again like this morning. It was so nice on the porch I lost track of the time and couldn't smell them over the fresh breeze.
It is full sunshine now and Dh is back from paddling. The wind was too high to make it a long time out on the lake.
My alarm to go for a walk just went off so I'll get dressed and head out for 30 minutes. I haven't managed to get out daily but some days I went for longer so my average is almost perfect. The deal is walk for 30 minutes. Not at any particular speed so two days my walk was very slow since the grands wanted to come too.

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
Happy Birthday Nancy!
Biscuits and gravy are made and waiting on the kids. They are slow to get up today.
Meatloaf and mashed potato prep has happened. I've gathered ingredients and am waiting for the meat to thaw.
Garden vegetables have been harvested, washed, chopped and now soaking in brine. I made this variety for the first time yesterday and absolutely enjoyed every bite. I wonder if I assembled the ingredients a few jars ahead so they could set longer they would be even better. Although I don't see how they could possibly taste better so I might not try.
We are still in an boring weather pattern. Next 10 days are showing to be bright sunshine 100-107F. We are back into severe drought status. All fires are a dire emergency to not let it escape and get out of control. We had a vehicle fire about 2 miles from us yesterday and several towns fire dept responded to keep the fire out of the surrounding pastures.

Re: Sunny, stormy, Saturday!
Good morning!
Happy birthday, Nancy!
Good to hear from you, Kathryn! I hope you’re enjoy the rest of your trip, cold or warm.
LadyM, your day sounds jam-packed! Have fun!
That dinner sounds awesome, Cathy! It’s a shame DH and I are scheduled to do the livestream at church this afternoon, or I could be there by five.
(Well, maybe not — the border can get pretty slow on a holiday weekend.)
I have no major plans for the day except for the aforementioned livestream. DH is at a funeral this morning, and I expect he’ll be there well into the afternoon. In addition to the usual luncheon after, DH and his college buddies have been invited back to the house (or maybe the luncheon is at the house?), and there will probably be some cards played. The funeral is the mother of one of the gang who lives in California these days. Now that his mother is gone, I don’t know what if anything will bring him back to Cleveland.
With no DH around, I will likely putter. The weather here is lovely; I should get out and enjoy it.
