I'll be potting up the last (I think) of some flowers, some of which are actually volunteers so pretty that they get a bit of showcasing at my back door with other planters.

Also wrapping 2 gifts.

So, i could just say, flower, flower, flower, wrapping, wrapping and have had fun x 5, lol.

But I'd better also mention the dreaded "returning wrong items" chore, which is always a downer and takes time I begrudge losing. Oh, well.

Poor sleep last night.
For some reason, Tobias was sick in the night. I always hear him (a mother's ears never really stop hearing distress) and HRH never does. He had almost made it to the bathroom at first - half and half. Then did get into the bathroom before it was over, so the cleanup was a lot easier than it could have been. It's rare that he vomits, but he always tries to make it to the bathroom, a puzzling fact that makes me wonder if he speaks more English than we think.

Good Morning!

I am playing Beat The Heat game so far today. My day started with the mile walk, then I took DS15 to work followed by spending time in the garden watering, harvesting and pulling weeds.

My heart is happy with the work environment that DS15 is in now. He is working with people that we have known for decades...and their parents and grandparents in some cases. This morning DS15 took some ribbing from the group because he arrived late. There was no cussing or put down comments toward DS15 but instead there were welcoming comments, laughter and calls for DS15 to set an alarm clock. The crew he used to work with has changed and are now mostly adults from another country (?illegals?). They have a different and harsh way of interacting with others....which DS15 experienced and left that job because of it.

DS15 current boss is someone we watched grow up. He is in his 50's now. He started farming & ranch after college and worked at it for decades. A couple years ago he sold most of his land, livestock, and equipment in a lump sum deal for 23 million. He kept a couple hundred acres around his home. He and his wife then traveled the world for about a year in several different methods (cruise, tours, RV, etc) They got tired of traveling and came back home to resume their life here. He is financially set but continues to do physical work doing things he enjoys. His current project is building a golf course behind his house. I'm guessing about 80 acreas. It won't be a public golf course but one for his family/friends to use. This morning when I dropped DS15 off at his house he was painting the frame for a golf cart bridge he is building over a pond. ANYWAY, my point to all this is that DS15 is being mentored by a boss that knows how to enjoy working.

My "fun" started at 5 a.m. when I got up to go to the bathroom. I saw a tiny little something in the doorway. Dead mouse! I grabbed the broom and the long handled dust pan and quickly swept it up and dumped it in the garbage can which was very close by. I am grateful we have 3 cats that take care of critters, but what a wake up call!

I spent some time sorting through even more books in the library last night. Found 2 skinny books that I didn't know if I wanted to keep or not. Looked through both of them this morning and now they are in the trunk of my car. There are a lot of books that are getting donated soon. Now my library has spaces for new books and it's looking very calm in there. I spend a lot of time stitching in there in the past few weeks. Since I started conquering the dishes on a nightly basis, I have more time to do what I enjoy.

It was my "turn" to cut the grass, so I went out and did that. Unfortunately the field around us was getting mowed by a large tractor. I was coming along our fence going east and I came to the end of the fence and saw the tractor come racing up alongside of me. It scared the you-know-what out of me! Of course I'm not scared of tractors, but the unexpectedness of it's appearance was what scared me. He started mowing after I started our riding mower. By the time I was done our almost-an-acre, he was almost done the entire field. I trimmed a bit further into the field to take down the sliver that he hadn't cut and when I was finished he came along and got the sliver I couldn't get to. Now it looks amazing at the back of our yard.

Dh and I sat on the patio and watched the tractor driver finishing up. He cuts the field 3 times a year, so we will see him again in August and October.

We are having bratwurst sausages for supper. I don't know what we are having with them yet. Possibly a broccoli and cheese rice side dish from a package.

I am safe but a 200 acre wild fire is burning west of us and it's windy.
The valley is smokey and they have calling in air water tankers to help as it's hilly.
A main road is closed for safety.
Outside stuff not going to happen.

CI ~Slept in till 7 rare for me.
Watered in front.
Spiffed up the spare room office going to get qt stuff in there.
Working on my tall desk a bit each day to clear it off.

Walked & picked up can's and other empties today it will be fun to walk later & not see those.
Glad we walked early.
Hydrating.
Crockpot is going.
Yummy taste test cooling now.
Writing round under way.

saw the tractor come racing up alongside of me.

I was reading with interest and realized that I am a bit to country. My first thought was what color was the tractor, how much horsepower, cab?, was the mower 3-point or hydraulic? was it a brush hog type mower? bat wing?. I don't expect answers to any of these thoughts and questions! >>> shaking my head at the thoughts rattling around .....I have hung around DS15 too long. These are the type of questions he would ask me. <<<<

Our local BBQ place is feeding us today. No cooking for me. I did cook breakfast and have processed some fresh vegetables from the garden, so it isn't a totally free day from food prep and kitchen cleanup.

What bothers me about Cathy's surprise tractor is only that it was cutting when it surprised. Enjoy seeing tractors, hate that inherent potential danger in blades, whether bush-hogging or cutting hay - discing for that matter. I like to know where those attachments are and what they are doing! No surprises, please. (I'm sure driver couldn't have helped surprising with mower's noise masking his.)

Flowers planted, side dressed and watered in, plus more efforts to fight the heat's effects all 'round. The temp has climbed now into 90s. I think dd barely married at the eleventh hour for seasonal comfort.

Two gifts wrapped in two different suitable wraps, different bow and topper. Should help the interest in look of the party table. I like that. Tobias lies close to me when I wrap, following my actions with his eyes, but will not fall asleep until I'm finished. The rustle of the paper, the lengths of ribbon - it all proves just too mesmerizing. Of course, that means I store the finished product high. It is not good for him to bite/eat ribbon or to incur my wrath by gnawing corners of new paper. No inspections.

I believe ds and ddil are still on their vacation over their anniversary, which was yesterday. Hoping I can get a greeting card to their door before they are home.

It was so silly to have been so shocked/surprised/scared by a machine that we see in that field all the time. It was most likely a John Deere as it was green with some yellow. Not a massive one, but much bigger than me on our 48 inch Cub Cadet (which is all yellow with some black).

Home from knitting. Very noisy group today, which was fine. Also a smaller group today, but there are outside things to do, gardens to tend to and golfing or baseball games to attend.

I’ve had a busy and fun day…

Went to class and then to my coffee gathering. A new to me friend joined us at our table. She and her husband are both originally from AL ad later moved to GA. Both are educators and he was a principal in jr and hs as well as a football coach. The husband and I see each other most Fridays but she has been sick off and on but finally is feeling better. I enjoy their company and listening to them talk.. strong southern accent and music to my ears.

After coffee I went to our WAlly world neighborhood grocery store and then to the $$ store. WM didn’t have all the fruit I wanted so I stopped at a large produce and specialty store called Farmer Joe. I like their variety of produce and I can select and buy singular piece of produce. I had a peach from CA from there last week so today I bought several more. I also like their selection of apples.

Came home and had to reorganize my refrigerator and then finally had my lunch. Sweetie had tried to return something from A mazon but chose the wrong store so I needed to fix that for him. Now I’m about to take a moment to relax and read.

Dinner is leftovers and vegetables. Easy peasy. Tomorrow I needed to go to my normal fro dry store because Sweetie is out of lunch meat and milk. Didn’t realize that till I got home

When I lived on the farm the back of our home was a bay field and although I enjoyed watching the tractors work it meant my home would become a refuge for the mice. However it delighted my cat. I just had to check her mouth every time she came to my back door cause she loved to bring me presents… usually a live mouse that she would bat around my floor until it was dead. Could t complain much cause she was great at finding mice that somehow would sneak into my house. My guess is they would get into the garage when the door was open. Liberty…I got her on the 4th of July was an amazing hunter and loved to stalk rabbits and such. Never caught them but hunted them anyways
