Juneteenth Wednesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Juneteenth is a U. S. federal holiday. Google it today for a surprise, and here's some additional info: https://nmaahc.si.edu/explore/stories/h ... juneteenth

For most of it there's little effect today, but for me, dh is home. Banks and financial markets are closed today in the U S.

Dh is golfing with a neighbor today. He joined a local golf club, neighbor is also member, and they'll play today. He also golfed yesterday at a fund raiser tournament. He expected to be hanging out and helping with it, but someone needed a fourth. He worked out yesterday a.m. and then bowled last night. I love these activities that will take him into retirement a little more than a year from now!

For me, this is a "normal" day. We took out steak to grill tonight.

I took it easy last night and went to bed a bit early. Up at 8 a.m.

Good Morning!

LucyLee - Enjoy this day with your family doing things you love. Thanks for the CI.

Twins - That is awesome that your DH is finding activities to do after he retires.

I had a nice normal start to my day. DS15 was out the door before 7am for work. A coworker has volunteered to pick him up and drop him off. This is a huge help to me. DD13 was out of bed by 9am. She is content to do quiet things. Her hours are filled with making jewelry, writing stories, drawing in her notebooks, creating 3D digital characters, and talking with her best friend while playing online games together.

DH worked in the yard push mowing and weedeating this morning. When he does this, I set a one-hour alarm to remind him to stop. DH doesn't have quit in him and would just keep on working regardless of the heat. However, he willingly comes inside and cools down when I remind him to take a break. Most days he usually goes back out again later and works another hour in the heat.

I've walked my first mile, made progress on my project to deep clean the front of the house/driveway, cooked a hearty breakfast, watered the garden and harvested peppers, onions and tomatoes.

I have been to Walmart. Got a buggy full. The cat litter is less expensive there, so I want to see if the cats like it before I buy more than 1 bag.
I've also been to the store where I buy cold salads and got 3 different types. Dh and I also had cabbage rolls for lunch. Supper tonight will be cold salads and deli meats. The stove has a night off.

Another hot one here today. It was hot before 9 a.m. and now it's unbearable outside.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

I think I've finished a.m. routine except for unloading the dishwasher. I started it right after I had my brunch and it's drying now. I've piddled a bit. Distributed geraniums to their planters but I think I need dh's help with a bag of potting soil. He's home from golf and wanted to go out this afternoon (I think we're upsizing to a king size bed because of ddog) but I pointed out that FL state plays TN again this afternoon and I thought he wanted to watch it. Anything so I get to stay home! He'll drag me to every furniture store in the city if I'm not careful.

I think I'm going to work on the temple cemetery finances right now. I can do that and also watch baseball too.

Rolled up the hoses to mow then had a call for help for Dgd's rides so...
Back from town did three stops.
Picked up Dgd from cheer, she's a 4.0 student!
went to thrift shop
dropped her off for her driver's Ed. class.
Back home had some lunch.

Harriet you have my permission to put your foot down about the table purchase and you can get rid of that dang desk!!!

I learned about Juneteenth when my late dh was stationed in TX. And then more about it when my late dsonil used to do reenactments, and we'd attend historic teaching events with the children.

Dd25 is off work today. I assume dsonil is. I have a feeling their vehicles need a down day, with trips to work longer and trips back here frequent as they continue to get moved.

Dd44 is off work today I think ... .. convenient since she moves DangerBoy into a dorm today. The trip would be at least 3 hours one way.

Dstepson is possibly off... .. dentist appt for him today, at least, so that may mean he scheduled on a holiday.

Had to send what may be a disappointing email to ds. The painters will be here for our small building tomorrow to pressure wash, then over the weekend to paint. If he can't get the yard mowed here tonight, it would be best to put it off even longer until that paint is dry. Sigh. We really need a mowing, but better to err on the side of caution than have a cloud of dust ruin that work.

Twins', you and I have opposite furniture-purchase problems with husbands.

HRH has had another spurt of furniture-moving energy. I guess it's helpful. He's disappointed, I think, that I'm not enthusiastic. He cleaned and decluttered his office (positive), but he brought out a desk he'd taken in there during our 52-card pickup when moving dd in here. That's positive, too, if he needed the space - I can understand that. But now it's in the place of the previous desk that shouldn't have been in the place of a kitchen table in the first place, only it's even less table-like. Sigh. So, now there's another make-do way of putting off our table-purchase decision even further. I wish he'd make up his mind and we could have a place to put people's KNEES.

We don't have the heat that Cathy has but this morning by 7:30 it was hotter outside than in and today inside started hotter than yesterday.

I actually walked for 30 minutes. Really, really, slowly, but I did walk. I wore a bathing suit top, yesterday's clothes, and bug shirt and hood. The black flies were bad on one part of the walk and the deer flies on another but neither could get through the mesh.

Dh went out earlier than me and woke up a bear by accident. He was up on the paved road and the bear down in the ditch, hidden by brush. He didn't see it, he just heard it growling and then a bit of the brush moving as it moved into the bush. He said it sounded like it didn't like being disturbed. He didn't break stride but just kept going to show he wasn't a threat to the bear.

I've done some work today and will go take a nap now on the porch. We had a bit of a rough night due to the heat and I'm sleepy. The break in the weather isn't coming for at least another day. At least it wasn't sunny until later today so our feels-like temp still hasn't crossed 100F.
