Health and Fitness, October 2024

How is your health journey going? Have you had any successes, learned about your needs and how your body works?

What are the new plans, the goals, the schedules you are paying attention to for October?

Do you have a calendar event coming up, which may inspire you to greater fitness?

Yesterday I spent close to 3 hours just treading water in the ocean. My friend like to hunt for
Sharks teeth so they spend time in waist deep water scooping up then ocean floor and dumping it in a floating strainer. I usually in deeper water while they do this so I end up treading water while they hunt. Great exercise. I did this the last couple of time when I’m with them and usually feel it the next day. I’m not as sore today as I have been in the past. Ocean water aerobics :D:

Came home plenty tired … made dinner for Sweetie and went to bed by 8.

Ate well, brought chicken, walnuts and an apple for lunch at the beach. Didn’t get in all my water because the bathrooms at the beach were locked due to the storms.

I joined my walking fb page in a walking challenge for this month. Need to walk 50 miles during the month. Quite durable for me.

One thing I’ve discovered by being at the beach is I’m not strong as I use to be. Getting up and down on the sand or in and out of the surf requires me to really focus. Need to work on that. And I’ve bought a special pillow that helps to take pressure off my shoulders as they have been hurting me. Think it’s already helping.

Making sure I take all my vitamins every day in hopes of deterring my migraine … so far, so go.

Mon. I walked & got my steps in.
Tues. Walked today & got my steps in, activities were walking gardening yard work & painting a small project out side.
Wed. Walked & got my steps in yea! Got 10K + a few steps in yea!!!
Thurs. walked got 11K + steps in today.
Fri. walked got 11k + steps.
Sat. walked got my steps in. 13K + steps.
Sun. Got my steps in. 8K

Yesterday. 10k steps, spent the part of the day in the dentist chair so didn’t get all my water in.

I decided to be more observant of my carb count during the month of October. I don't have much experience watching carb count so I am not sure how this will play out. The highest carb count foods I ate during the past 4 weeks was....Chips, Pizza, and grapes. Chips & Pizza don't provide much nutrition so reducing them would seem to be a good thing. Awareness is what I am seeking for now. What I don't know, I can't improve.

When I count carbs I try to eat 20 or less a day. Some say 30-40 daily. I don’t know if Nancy counts carbs or not.

10k steps…3 miles on the beach and 1.5 hours treading water and my body is feeling it
Couldn’t get all my water in as the bathrooms on the beach were closed.
Stayed under 1000 calories. Bet if I could somehow track my leg movement while in the water I would have a bunch more steps. Too bad my phone isn’t water proof :D: just some more of sea aerobics :lol:

Starting 20 carbs and day and 10 sugars, plus 80 ozs of water and at least 8k+ steps, daily.

*** Me frowning at the +.07 weight gain this month**** My weight has always bounced around from day to day. That is the reason that I weigh every day and average the numbers to get better data. I like looking at the numbers displayed on a chart showing several weeks/months of data because it clearly shows a downward trend. Meanwhile…I am trying to have patience for the weight number to change to a loss while I continue trying to find what best suits my body.

I remember doing low carb a decade or so ago when DH was first diagnosed as a diabetic (Type 2). We did lose weight quickly by giving up most of the food that we normally eat. However, we eventually returned to eating vegetables and fruit. DH enjoys sweets so those were added back in too. Trying to stay super low carb as a way of life was a failure for us.
I don't know what a good balance of carbs is for me now. I want to learn.

LadyM… the fb page Type Two Diabetic Rebels have great guide lines for carbs depending on your situation. Emptynester sent me there years ago and I am going back to the group.
