"Wilt thou go to the barracks, Johnny?" is a traditional Scottish Highland dance. It was interpreted and reconstructed from Frederick Hill's Book of Quadrilles and Country Dances, a manuscript written in 1841. It is usually performed wearing the Highland dance costume (kilt and waistcoat), sometimes in competitions as well as for medal testing and performance. It is can be danced to pipe marches such as "The Barren Rocks of Aden", "Braes of Mar", or "Scotland the Brave". Originally, the dance was probably danced to music with a similar name: "Go to Berwick Johnny", a song in 3/2 time.

Unlike most national dances, which are usually danced in an Aboyne dress if the dancer is female, "wilt thou go to the barracks, Johnny?" is danced in the standard kilt-based outfit. It is the second dance of the "national dance" subtype to be danced in this particular outfit, the other being "Highland laddie".

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. Such good news about Terri getting her cast off yesterday! Your supper recipes sound delicious!

Helian, 1.5 hours on the phone answering questions is a very long time!

Gma, what a good idea to recognise your nest time to write lists, and to act on it. I can see the advantage of starting the day with the last already written. :D

Yesterday afternoon I cleaned the sitting room, and when DH went out I spent a short time on paperwork and then worked on my dolls house.

Today I need to go as see C (the elderly lady I'm keeping an eye on while her DD is on holiday), to pick up her grocery shopping list and stay for a cup of tea. She's rather deaf, so I hope she hears the door!

Put my breakfast bowl and mug in DW. In other words, pick after myself!
Email A with my thoughts and answers to questions, and apologies for the meeting I can't attend. Do this TODAY
Make list of outstanding jobs on the house and send to Handyman A. DF PM, who has been mentoring him through some difficult turns his life has taken, thinks he may be ready to start some jobs again. (If he doesn't reply in a reasonable time, or doesn't want to do anything, then I'll look for someone else, but I would prefer not to do that). Off the top of my head, clean gutters and the swan neck on the downpipes where "stuff" tends to accumulate, clean cladding back and front and downpipes, and short return wall as well. Replace the bit of mortar that's fallen out of the edge of the roof (I think its called the verge?) , fix dripping kitchen tap ( new washer?), sort out cabinet that wobbles, fix garage guttering that's loose at one end and bending down. More as I think of them? 😀 ( Waiting for a reply)
Take up and hem those thick winter curtains for the kitchen
Book eye test for me
Find picture hanging equipment for DH
Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP
Think about setting up Guardianship for F,J and M - looked on Cats' Protection, I need their microchip numbers, approximate DOB, colour and markings and useful information about them. Bookmark link with local recommended solicitors (also ask DF CW?)
Change health centres to the one nearest us? On hold ATM , but I'll leave it on my list so I don't forget.

Morning all. Wow. I was tired last night. I think it is just disruption of the routines and maybe a list stress coming off now that dad has had his surgery and is due out of hospital today. Long as everything goes as it should. Maybe that's it. Of course I processed a lot of freight at work as well over the last couple days . I was dragging a bit at the end of it. I finished the last of what I could do and then left a little early. Stopped at home to see dh and ds for a bit and get some clean clothes. Then back to mom for supper.

After supper we cleaned up a little and then sat on the couch for a few minutes. Talked to dad on phone and then tucked mom in bed again by 730. I went downstairs and read and tried to crochet a bit. I was so tired I went to bed at 9. Must have fell asleep almost right away as I even missed my sister's text.

Got up at 5 again. Now I'm sitting in the basement reading and such. Should get up soon and do some things. I'm off work. E has done so many details. I see I can still clean the oven. Maybe some thorough bathroom clean. So much for decluttering as a good portion of the time mom has been sleeping.

Other thing I have to do is phone the school when it's open. Book in teacher meetings if I still can. I totally forgot yesterday. It's this afternoon so we'll see if I can still do it. E is coming at 1 today so I will go home for afternoon and get the interviews and stay the for supper. Then see what the plan of when arrivals is for dad.

Priority list

Call school for apts
Call book blood work
Tidy a few things
Prep for dad's arrival
Casper walk at home
Spend some time with ds
Teacher meetings

Today's tada list

Text my sister reply to missed pm text
Shower
Sweep bathroom floor and clean it
Tidy basement room a little
Empty and reload dw

I caught another stomach bug. Ugh. Last night was rough, making multiple trips to the bathroom. I don't feel great and it's still a little crampy. I have told the school I need a sub. I'm prepping right now; my slides were not done nor my syllabus. Class is at 1:30 so there's time.

I'll be back later with lists and proper greetings!

Thinking how Sunny would love that start. Her two granddaughters are Highland Dancers and the younger a Grade 1 piper as well. Her dson2's children. She's recuperating at home from an operation - I did see her look in to check on us not long ago.

Get Well Soon, helia.
