Re: Flamenco Friday @ TDD - C&C
Flamenco is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. In a wider sense, the term is used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. However, its style is uniquely Andalusian and flamenco artists have historically included Spaniards of both gitano and non-gitano heritage.
The oldest record of flamenco music dates to 1774 in the book Las Cartas Marruecas (The Moroccan Letters) by José Cadalso. The development of flamenco over the past two centuries is well documented: "the theatre movement of sainetes (one-act plays) and tonadillas, popular song books and song sheets, customs, studies of dances, and toques, perfection, newspapers, graphic documents in paintings and engravings. ... in continuous evolution together with rhythm, the poetic stanzas, and the ambiance."
On 16 November 2010, UNESCO declared flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Happy Friday!
DH is on the mend, so he went to the office today. Terri is coming down with the cold, so she's staying home. My last day of home alone was February 14th! Ugh. I did finish the work stuff last night (by company guidelines, the board materials need to be sent out three business days before the meeting. Nobody would bite my head off if they weren't, but I really do like to be the one who follows the rules), so today should be "regular Friday", when I get to work on routine things like catching up on emails, filing and final editing of one guideline.
I intend to take some good cleaning breaks today, with the amount of overtime I've been doing the last two weeks (normally, my hours are governed by the fact that I need to get DBD from school, but as DH was home - or she was home, all of last week - it was easy to call him "please go get her, I need to stay late) I'd probably be justified to not work at all today, but I have way too much to do that. But my house has been paying the price and it's payback time

Re: Flamenco Friday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off and for another interesting dance! I hope you manage to have a productive day both on work things and around the house.
Have a good day at work, Dogged. Sorry the car has broken down again, but at least not waited until you were safely home.
Helian, it depends on many factors.
Items usually made of wood or metal, without any moving parts or small "bits" , and that every house would be expected to have, like tables and beds, were made in larger numbers and usually survived relatively unscathed. So it's easy to pick up something the right colour and in good condition. Wardrobes are also widely available, but with dressing tables the mirrors tend to tarnish,.and little drawers.can fall out and get lost. Things like taps on baths or sinks often got snapped off! Items that were tiny, or had tiny parts, are much more difficult to find. I haven't been able to find a 1950s brightly coloured metal tea set by Dol Toi anywhere. (But I do have my eye on a 1960s plastic one by Dol Toi, which is "mostly" intact) Also items that probably weren't produced in such large numbers are harder to find.
My biggest discoveries so far have been a cat in a basket with a kitten, all made of painted lead (the kitten is really tiny - maybe a cm in length? So there is speculation as to whether there was originally more than one kitten!) so although there were probably lots made, many have got lost over the years. (Or possibly thrown out when people realised that giving lead toys to children was not a good idea!). And, secondly, a wooden hat/ coat stand, complete with a miniature copy of "Punch" (a satirical magazine, mostly in cartoon form, that used to be very popular) and a tiny umbrella! I suspect this piece was considered to be an "optional extra", so probably was made in much smaller numbers.
Things often come in "lots", so there might be only one or two things you really want , the rest is just surplus. But, I have made a point of cleaning, polishing and fixing ( as much as I can) everything as it arrived, ( it's amazing how different things look when 60+ years of grime has been removed , or a chair leg reattached!
) so my plan, when the dolls house is finally finished, is to group everything that's left over and I really don't want into "lots" and sell it on again
. That way it won't be clutter taking up space, and there is that saying that one person's rubbish is another person's treasure!
I need to get up soon , as I have a busy day ahead, but ATM Jude and Matilda are on the bed and have weighed down the duvet, so my escape is impossible!
Freddie is in the kitchen eating his breakfast. ( It's important he eats his breakfast, as most of his meds are hidden in that meal!)

Yes, I think you're right about the stress of the move, Gma. I didn't think it would be stressful -- but it is. I'm worried Mom won't respond well, but I'm hoping frequent visits after she's here will help. The new nursing home has several different levels of care. Mom will be going to the highest level, memory care. They don't provide furniture -- but they do provide everything else, including sheets for the bed and hygiene supplies. They evaluated Mom to make sure they could provide for her needs. I was shocked when they said yes,
but my mom isn't really sick; she just can't do many things and just sleeps most of the time.
Yay for being done with work, trissie! I'm going to start here in a minute.
Did you find the ingredients, L Ann?
That's really interesting, Kitty. I don't think I've seen the basket of kittens - or one kitten - yet.

Re: Flamenco Friday @ TDD - C&C
DD32 is making Irish Cheddar Spring Onion Biscuits, Trissie. I found self rising flour and buttermilk, helian. I spend a lot on groceries but I am not used to a “regular” grocery store and the prices were a bit of a shock. The exact extra virgin olive oil I just got at Target was $7 more a bottle.
My mom’s nursing home provides furniture but you can bring your own. She uses her dressers, chairs and art work but the nursing home’s bed.
