Re: Timpani Tuesday
Timpani or kettledrums are musical instruments in the percussion family. A type of drum categorised as a hemispherical drum, they consist of a membrane called a head stretched over a large bowl traditionally made of copper. Thus timpani are an example of kettledrums, also known as vessel drums and semispherical drums, whose body is similar to a section of a sphere whose cut conforms the head.
Most modern timpani are pedal timpani and can be tuned quickly and accurately to specific pitches by skilled players through the use of a movable foot-pedal. They are played by striking the head with a specialized beater called a timpani stick or timpani mallet.
Timpani evolved from military drums to become a staple of the classical orchestra by the last third of the 18th century. Today, they are used in many types of ensembles, including concert bands, marching bands, orchestras, and even in some rock bands.

Re: Timpani Tuesday
Back home again after a very productive morning. My dentist appointment went smoothly, I picked up the chocolates and card from M&S Foodhall, and then drove to the vet to drop off the card and chocolates as a "thank you" to Fred's emergency team, returns the towels he'd been sent home with, picked up his meds and settled the bill (Petplan will cover the cast majority of his bill, but as Fred is now over 10 yo, we have a co pay of 20%). And the. I drove to the garden centre, and picked up geraniums and begonias for my summer bedding plants. I got home and had just unloaded all the plants onto my back steps where they'll be safe and sheltered, and it started to rain.
Fortunately, I think it's only a shower.

- had a lovely reply - they're 99% sure it isn't one of theirs
Pick up my footprints! (Thank you, RRose!)
House tasks: clean gutters and the swan neck on the downpipes where "stuff" tends to accumulate, clean cladding back and front and downpipes, and short return wall as well. Replace the bit of mortar that's fallen out of the edge of the roof (I think its called the verge?) , fix dripping kitchen tap ( new washer?), sort out cabinet that wobbles, fix garage guttering that's loose at one end and bending down. More as I think of them? Texted 10/3
and 14/4
If no reply by the end of the month, then definitely look for someone else (DF PM is also starting to become exasperated with his reluctance)
Steps to take to find a replacement: ask friends, look on local sources eg Nextdoor for recommendations
I may have to split the jobs between different people this year if I can't find someone who's good at a variety of skills, so:
For gutter cleaning, Dneighbours R and A used Ben's gutters -are they pleased with the work? Does BG also clean cladding? Do they have a website? Yes
Also The E Gutter Cleaners -they have good reviews
Prepare my "job spec" WIP
Fill in free quote forms for both the above companies
Wait and see the results!
Kitchen tap - DF E has given me the phone number if her plumber . I think DF CW also has a plumber she is happy with?
Garage gutter - probably a handyman needed here - Text /message a few likely candidates and see what happens. Does Dneighbour R2 do handyman type jobs? I know he's done work for Dneighbour R in the past, but that was larger jobs, like laying a path!
Pick a new podiatrist from my "short list"
Book an appointment !
Take up and hem those thick winter curtains for the kitchen
Book eye test for me
Find picture hanging equipment for DH
Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP I am now working on 2024
Think about setting up Guardianship for F,J and M - looked on Cats' Protection, I need their microchip numbers, approximate DOB, colour and markings and useful information about them. Bookmark link with local recommended solicitors (also ask DF CW?)
Change health centres to the one nearest us? On hold ATM , but I'll leave it on my list so I don't forget.

Good morning
Kittykatt, thanks for the start and the education. Do you have three cats inside? The flowers sound lovely. Stay dry today.
Kitkat, good to see you around here.
It’s muggy and humid here, supposed to rain. I don’t do humid well, it drains my energy. Got the air conditioner running so may stay inside until evening and cooler weather. I’m so glad I already made my basic list.

Re: Timpani Tuesday
It looks like errand day here today!
Happy errands, kitkat.
That sounds like a productive morning, Kitty. WTG getting those errands done.
Wow, you're running your a/c already, Bama. Our high today is 66*F, which is quite warm for us! It looks like we'll get rain on Friday. WTG having the basic list ready!
Yesterday ended up being very unproductive for me, but I gave myself a pass. My original plan was to take a rest day yesterday. I needed a low key day. In fact, last night was the first quiet evening I'd had at home since last week Monday, so that was nice! We're hosting again tonight.
Today: I'm going to try to make progress on the things I didn't get to yesterday, including more groceries and maybe clean sheets on the bed. A jog would be great too, but I'm not sure that can happen as my day is pretty scheduled. KSJ get together 10-12:30-ish (I will have to leave early). Prof Dev meetings 1-3. Then, I'll need to get groceries so we can cook for our dinner guests tonight, arriving @ 6:30. At least I don't need to spiff the house much as that was done on Sunday before that set of dinner guests.
I'll also try to get in a jog. And then, I need to work on getting things set up to start class again tomorrow: Google classroom, Telegram group, syllabus, and -- oh yeah, a lesson plan. LOL!
My Mom should be seeing her new Dr. today. I asked to have her tested for a UTI, among other things. I will not visit her today, BUT I will visit her tomorrow!
Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
Later:
- strip MBR bed
- load of towels and sheets
- reclaim kitchen

Re: Timpani Tuesday
Kittykatt, thanks for the start. Tympani are a wonderful instrument in the percussion family. I love the way the air vibrates when they are played.
glad dentist went well. My regular 6 months appointment is today also.
Bama, AC already? We're still ranging from 30s to 50s mostly, but may have a random 70 degree day today.
Helian, does Dr come to your mother's place, like happens where my mom is
KitKat, hope you get all your errands done.
I'm not Roman Catholic, but mourn the death of Pope Francis. He was a great servant of Christ.
Dbro will help me with a few things today, then leave tomorrow morning. We'll bring supper to Mom tonight instead of eating NH food.
I had a landscape designer here a few weeks ago. He has a plan ready. Dbro will come with me to look at it today.
