Tuna salad is a salad dish consisting of tuna and mayonnaise. The tuna used is usually pre-cooked, canned, and packaged in water or oil. Pickles, celery, relish, and onion are popular ingredients to add. Tuna salad is used to make tuna fish sandwiches; it can also be served on top of crackers, lettuce, tomato, or avocado (or else served by itself).

Tuna salad has been eaten for over 100 years. The first written reference to tuna salad, in Russia, appeared in 1876, and by 1893, dozens of recipes had been published. Tuna salad, especially with celery, is similar to chicken salad while also being more convenient (due to the use of canned tuna), a fact that helped its early rise in popularity.

Due to the high nutritional content of tuna salad, it assumed the reputation of a diet food in the 1960s.

In the United States, tuna salad is often considered its own dish. However, it may be added to noodles with its standard ingredients (onions, mayonnaise, and celery) to make a tuna pasta salad. Tuna salad is also commonly seen in American salad bars.[citation needed]

In Belgium, the dish pêches au thon/perziken met tonijn ('peaches with tuna') is made from halved canned or fresh peaches stuffed with tuna salad. It is widespread throughout the country, and, due to its ease of preparation, it is common fare at potlucks.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for the start. Tuna salad is not on the list of my favourite, but it's cheap, easy and nutritious, so it does tend to make a regular appearance in one form or another!

Helian, I hope your DMum is ok, and nothing serious happened.

Dogged, I'm glad you have a safety net that gives you choices, and also that Germane's vet visit went well

Gma, Tutsi is a very much loved little dog! And she is very fortunate to have you to provide all her daily care.

Laura, you have a lot on your plate ATM. Is it post to arrange for a carer to come and help your DMum, especially with things like personal care?

Bama, I also find my days go much more smoothly when I make a list in advance!

Today is another chilly (3C) but sunny start. Fortunately, my bedding plants are all in sheltered spots, so they should be able to cope. DH is WFH, my priorities are: walk, garden and housework. Today would also be a good day to ask for quotes for the gutter cleaning -It can maybe do that while sitting in my garden -if it warms up enough!

Steps to take to find a replacement: ask friends, look on local sources eg Nextdoor for recommendations
I may have to split the jobs between different people this year if I can't find someone who's good at a variety of skills, so:
For gutter cleaning, Dneighbours R and A used Ben's gutters -are they pleased with the work? Chatted to R yesterday -yes they are pleased, also said that BG seem to be here a lot on our neighbourhood 😀
Does BG also clean cladding? Do they have a website? Yes to both 😀

Garage gutter -probably something for a handyman - text /message a few likely people. Does Dneighbour R2 do handyman type jobs? I know he's done work for Dneighbour R in the past, but that was larger jobs, like laying a path!
Pick a new podiatrist from my "short list"
Book an appointment !
Take up and hem those thick winter curtains for the kitchen
Book eye test for me
Find picture hanging equipment for DH
Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP I am now working on 2024

Trissie, thanks for the start. Tuna salad in a peach half. That sounds really good! I have trouble getting the ratio of tuna and mayo right. Our Food Co-op grocery store and deli puts grated carrots in the tuna salad sandwiches they make for their deli. ( In addition to the celery and onion and Mayo)
Kittykatt, that's cold! We're lows in 40s this week, and highs upper 70s. Feels like summer 😀

You're not going to get me on this one, Trissie! My dmom used to make tuna salad fairly often when I was growing up, but I do not eat it anymore. Just don't like tuna and I refuse to eat mayonnaise unless it is VERY well hidden in the other ingredients. (I like potato salad, for instance.)
Tomorrow is another day.

Gma, I think we should warm up to about 13C, but not the heady highs of last week. At least the sun is shining !🌟

LucyLee, I'm not keen on potato salad either, but that could be because I've never tasted a really good homemade one! Most of those that I have tried and rejected have been shop bought, with, as you say, too much mayonnaise.

I've been productive and done some admin tasks this morning - I've finally booked an appointment with a new podiatrist (change is hard, but I have no choice as I can't track down my previous one after the establishment closed last year. And, in any case, booking one appointment does * not* commit me to any additional future appointments if we don't "click" with each other. But I am optimistic. :D )

I have also requested quotes from two gutter cleaning companies, so that's more progress.

My mom is still at the hospital. The nurse was talking about the possibility of her going home last night, so I'm not sure what happened. Maybe she had a bad reaction to a new med for afib they wanted to give her? Or maybe she developed a fever? I'm heading over asap. I'm popping in saying "hi" to you all while drinking my morning coffee.

I like tuna salad, trissie, but I rarely make it! We do make a tuna pasta dish, but it's warm and does not have mayo in it.
That is a chilly start, Kitty.

Morning all. Almost done most of my routine. Kinda. At least quick over. Dw is going with big stuff. I'll steal ds last when he is up.

I don't mind tuna salad. Almost prefer salmon . Same thing. Good protein lunch. I should eat it more.

Helian maybe this hospital visit will find some unchecked things for your mom and give fresh start how to help her. Sorry she fell.

I should finish getting ready for work and eat something before I go. Plenty of time. Good thing dh is off today he can rest and hopefully get over this cold. And not share it with me yet. It's dark and gloomy and raining. Not a mowing day anyway. We do need the rain just not really in our yard 😕
