Comte Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa (24 November 1864 – 9 September 1901), known as Toulouse-Lautrec (French: [tuluz lotʁɛk]), was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist, and illustrator whose immersion in the colourful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century allowed him to produce a collection of enticing, elegant, and provocative images of the sometimes decadent affairs of those times.

Born into the aristocracy, Toulouse-Lautrec broke both his legs during adolescence, leaving him with a stunted appearance. In later life, he developed an affinity for brothels and prostitutes that directed the subject matter for many of his works, which record details of the late-19th-century bohemian lifestyle in Paris. He is among the painters described as being Post-Impressionists, with Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Georges Seurat also commonly considered as belonging in this loose group.

In a 2005 auction at Christie's auction house, La Blanchisseuse, Toulouse-Lautrec's early painting of a young laundress, sold for US$22.4 million, setting a new record for the artist for a price at auction.

In a career of less than 20 years, Toulouse-Lautrec created:

Now,. Toulouse -Lautrec.I do know about, thanks to that wonderful kids programme.Blue Peter when.I was growing up -they did an article on him.

My new hoover arrived yesterday afternoon, and I've out it together and given it a trial run. I think Helian commented on the fast delivery time? With online shopping it's so much faster, especially as the stores have realised people don't want to wait days or even weeks for household appliances. I think it started with one company offering next day delivery, and charging a lot, and the idea caught on, so mow more and more now offer free next day delivery, as they compete with each other.

Freddie continued to improve throughout an yesterday -jes still on the GI wet food, bit I think he had 6 small meals, and even ate a little.of his biscuit before bed time. He's limping a lot more than usual, and his rear end is tender, but I think that's where his hips were positioned for his x-rays.

Very interesting to read about so many cats with bladder crystals. Fortunately, so far Freddie has never been "blocked" and we hope to keep it that way!

KitKat, that must be a huge relief for you that Dog came through her surgery safely.

Last night I tried am experiment, and slept with the window closed instead of open a hot. Result, Matilda couldn't hear the birds singing.and slept right through as she didn't go in the windowsill and discovered it was, I'm fact, light out!

Today.will be church, and then wells decamp to the Mulberry Tree community café afterwards,.as there's a funeral at church,,.so we can't really have coffee.there afterwards as usual. This will be a good opportunity to have a chat with them about the next parish lunch at the end of June. I also want to call in at the vets -It have some chocolates.for Freddie's team to say thank you -I know he's not "easy" and they very kindly make lots of accommodations for him to make his stay easier on everyone! I would also like to hoover and maybe powerwash the car, but that going to depend on the weather and my energy levels!

cl, you have been busy with all your retirement plans and activities.
my crutches are a rather long story. I'll try to summarize:
Briefly, I have something called a stress reaction in the long middle bone in one foot. A stress reaction (I learned) is a step below stress fracture. It is an overuse injury. the pain doesn't start until 3-4 weeks after the event, which makes it rather difficult to diagnose.
I dug lots of weeds out from mother's spruce trees last autumn. I didn't have good shoes for the project. In early April I had an MRI which showed the injury. The treatment is limit weight bearing.
So that's why I have been on crutches. I used them for 5 weeks - and am supposed to only gradually increase activity. That gradual increase was pretty difficult over mother's birthday weekend. But I will try to cut back now that the birthday party is over - except that there are reunion activities at our local college this weekend. I am only taking mother to one event - it is getting more and more difficult to get her into the car. It's a safety issue for both her and for me.

That's all I have time to say tonight - I am back from setting her hair and turning on her warm throw - that turns itself odd in 2 hours.

And need to head to bed, so I can start all over tomorrow - plus take dfBS to her dentist appointment, get more meds for ddog, and check on a few things at the college re: the fancy dinner we are going to on Friday evening.

Gma, glad to hear DDoggie is still hanging in there! Now I know that it may be insensitive, but... what kind of breed is DDoggie? I mean - with your mom's cognitive issues, and with her being so attached more to the IDEA of DDoggie, once DDoggie passes, would it be possible to get a new one (not a puppy, an older dog from shelter or something) that would pass as DDoggie in your mom's eyes? Of course, you could hardly do that with a beagle or other breed that has distinctive coloring, but to me one bichon frise looks just like another!
kittykatt, yay for getting a new hoover! Which one did you get? I need a new one for upstairs, so I am looking for ideas!
Bama, I didn't know T-L was a shortie, and also that he was blue-blood! But he's one of the artists that are pretty easy to recognize by their style. Last year, during my Vienna trip, I realized I actually like impressionists. I always preferred Italian style reneissance paintings (also realized that yes, there is a huge difference between the Dutch and Italian reneissance paintings), but impressionism, I can do too! Still not a fan of cubism, though.

So, Thursday. I have a coordination call planned for this morning, and I need to prep for that, and in the afternoon, I will be on my own driving kids back and forth. I can already tell today will NOT be a productive day. Well productive by my standards, you know how it goes!

Egads! My weight is back up to a point I haven't seen for a while. I had a good day yesterday too. I'm taking it in stride, just a reminder that I can't eat everything while also not doing significant exercise. Now that my schedule is more open, I hope to step up the jogging. Today, I'm working out with my personal trainer @ 1-2. He asked to move our session from 8 a.m. I didn't need much arm twisting to make that change. We're hosting a young couple we don't know well for dinner tonight, so I need to spiff the house a bit. We've met him at church; she doesn't go to church, apparently. She is a grad student at the big U here. He is an engineer of some sort.

Gma, happy belated birthday to your dmom. I hope you’re not in any pain and can take it easy as you continue to heal. Hugs for dpup.

Kittykatt, the time difference can be confusing but I do love having people here almost around the clock, 24/7. I look forward to knowing someone is here which gets me moving and then reading accomplishments keeps me going, as well as all of the encouragement. Online shopping has me spoiled. When it first started, a membership was required for speedy delivery and most didn’t deliver to our rural area. Now I don’t have to join any club and can have anything I want delivered which saves me a half hour drive one way when I need something. I do still grocery shop in person but can get that heavy litter delivered to my door rather than load it in the cart, unload it to my car, then tote it inside my house. Love that! Hugs to Freddie and kudos for extending Matilda’s sleep time so you’re not up so early. I don’t allow cats in my bedroom as I’d never get any rest. They pounce on me as soon as I sit anywhere in the main rooms, much like toddlers, and I need some alone time lol. Too many heads to scratch.

Today is a good day to work on chores. Nothing exciting going on. Dh took off all of next week as dd2 will be coming home to visit. I doubt I’ll post much then. It’s just harder to get anything done with him home. Dd will probably hibernate in her room mostly, as is her habit. Not sure of any plans to spend time together, maybe we will all go thrifting one day. I did get dh and I a hotel room for Tuesday and Wednesday night in 2 separate nearby cities to get out of the house while we have a free pet sitter. Other than that, we will wing it.

I’m starving so need to figure out what I want for breakfast that doesn’t involve a lot of cooking.
