You're up very early today, kittykatt! My pick would have been White Nile, but River Wey is more pitoresque :-)

The River Wey is a chalk stream flowing through Dorset in south west England. The river is about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) long. It rises in Upwey, where the spring forms Upwey Wishing Well, at the foot of the South Dorset Downs, a ridge of chalk hills that separate Weymouth from Dorchester. Most of the course is in the built-up area of Weymouth, running through the former villages (now suburbs) of Upwey, Broadwey, Nottington, and Radipole, through Radipole Lake and into Weymouth Harbour. From source to mouth it falls around 60 metres.

The river has been important since Roman times, when Radipole Lake was used as a reservoir. The town of Weymouth was established by two harbour villages (Weymouth itself and Melcombe Regis) either side of the mouth The river was important for milling during the 18th and 19th centuries, when there were five water mills based along it. All five of the millers needed carefully to co-ordinate their activities to ensure a reliable flow of water.

The source is an important water supply. There is a large pumping station at Friar Waddon, drawing from the source of the Wey, which is the main water supply for the Isle of Portland. Wessex Water is licensed to pump 14 megalitres (3,100,000 imp gal) per day.

The river is important for wildlife; Radipole Lake is a national nature reserve run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. It has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1979. The spring water of the Wey is used by the Upwey fish farm, which also uses the river to grow watercress. All water in the farm is recycled back to the river.

Good morning, Trissie! Matilda decided we needed an early start, so I thought I would make the best use of my extra time. :D

Helian, I hope you can get your toe looked at -they are such small things but have such a big impact on our lives! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding anniversary.

Gma, that's a very long, full day. I'm sure you asked the NH to check this, but the first thing that came to mind when they said your DMum was confused was, is she dehydrated? The professional organiser sounds a good idea, to help you "keep going", if only you can have some uninterrupted time with her!

An early start for me today , as Matilda is HUNGRY! (She has had to fast overnight for her dental procedure today). Still, my plan of putting her to bed early with her supper worked, as we made it through until nearly 5.30 am before she woke me. (I am counting my blessings, as with DDeparted Trifle it was often 3 am when she complained of being hungry before a procedure. Those 2.5 hours make all the difference!)

It's forecast to reach 27C/ 81F here today, so I, too, need to plan my walk carefully - I think either when I get home from dropping Matilda at the vet, or later this evening. My housework aim is to clean the kitchen - the kitchen faces west, so that also needs to be done early when it's still relatively cool and before the sun starts pouring in, or later this evening. It's the kind of thing I can easily stop to go and pick up Matilda, so probably good to get some first. (I have no idea yet when I'll be able to collect Matilda - they always ring when Freddie is ready to go home and politely request his immediate removal, but, I have a feeling Freddie is always sedated early, so he spends as little time as possible at the vet, whereas dental cases are done later on in the day. But I'm sure they'll let me know when I drop her off.

Other plans for today, I would like to spend some time reading in the garden again, if I can find a shady spot. Not sure what DH wants to do yet -maybe clean out and tidy that cupboard in his desk he was going to do yesterday, but got sidetracked looking at the south Devon heritage railway online? ( He has plans to maybe volunteer there when he retires, and I'm encouraging that as I think it's an excellent idea, and much better than sitting in front of a laptop or TV all day! :D )

Back home from the vets, and having breakfast in my garden. Matilda's admission process was seamless (it makes a change to have a cat that isn't swearing at everyone!) and I've sorted out the insurance with the lovely receptionist.

DH announced when I got home that he had used the time to clear out his cupboard in the desk!!!! :D

My patio is a real sun trap and hot already, so I think I'll " work" in my front garden this morning, which is still in the shade and should be pleasant cool, before I start the kitchen.

Stopping for lunch with DH. The kitchen is half done - I got distracted chatting to Dnextdoorneighbour C, as Openreach are coming today to supposedly finally finish her fibre instal and get her connected.

I'll do a bit more in the kitchen, and then it will be time to ring the vet to find out how Matilda is getting on.

☀️ Good morning.

Thanks for the start kittykatt. Looks like the machine has been repaired and Matilda let you sleep most of the night. Hope all goes well with her procedure and you enjoy your day with dh home.

Hi trissie, another river name option for next time.

(((Gma))) you truly get pulled in every direction. Hope you’re resting. Kittykatt’s point about hydration is what sticks out in my mind as well.
