Re: Wild Rose Wednesday
A wild rose bush, also known as a species rose, typically refers to a rose variety that is closer to its natural, wild state than cultivated hybrid roses. These roses are known for their single, often fragrant, flowers, followed by hips (fruits) if not deadheaded. Wild roses are attractive to pollinators like bees and are often found in hedges, wildlife-friendly gardens, and naturalized areas.
Wild roses tend to be vigorous, sprawling shrubs, often with thorny stems. They typically have single flowers with five petals, often pink in colour and have pinnate leaves with oval leaflets and serrated edges. After flowering, wild roses produce hips, which are a food source for birds and other wildlife. They are attractive to pollinators like bees and other insects.
Wild roses are generally hardy and adaptable to various conditions, including damp, shady places and dry, exposed sites with poor soil.
Popular Wild Rose Varieties:
Dog Rose (Rosa canina): A common native wild rose in Britain, with pink or white flowers and large orange/red hips.
Rosa Rugosa: A popular hedging plant, known for its toughness, disease resistance, and large, scented flowers and hips.
Wild roses are excellent for creating wildlife-friendly hedges. They can also be incorporated into mixed borders for their attractive flowers and hips, they are a valuable addition to wildlife gardens, providing food and habitat for birds and insects, and they can be planted in naturalized areas to add a touch of wild beauty.

Re: Wild Rose Wednesday
Thanks for another rosy start, Kitty.
Sorry about the rain, L Ann. It sounds like Little Bit is having fun with you anyway.
We have some in our forecast for Sunday.
I don't think I got back here yesterday. I got home from payroll meetings at 3 pm, a lot later than anticipated. I stayed and checked the final exams (checking off that the teachers bundled and turned them in) for the GGT project since I have to be at the school to do that. Once home, I was tired and snacked too much and didn't really get going for a while.
I did write more and also did a load of darks. The girls came over for dinner, which was really nice! M was there too; I went to book club late and it was super nice to see those women again! We're hoping to aim for once a season get togethers. I got home around 9:30 pm.
Dd29 is giving a testimony at the religious conference next week, so dh and I will change our plans to arrive one day earlier. Perhaps we'll get that taken care of tonight. Dh will do the plane tix and I will do the bnb. Still need to get a car.
I really need to get back into healthy routines.
Today, I'm meeting with A, my trainer, at 10 a.m. I'm planning go go immediately from the gym to a park for a short jog. I should be home around noon. This afternoon, I'd like to get Kroger groceries and work on my brain dump list and do some writing.

Re: Wild Rose Wednesday
Morning all. Kittykat those wild roses are all over my walk. Everywhere here in the natural growth. And they are in full bloom right now. Lots of wildflowers. If I knew how to do pictures I have some from last summer.
I had a very good day yesterday. Other than a few frustrating things. Dh managed to get the parts on the older lawn mower with help. My sister and her guy might take it when it's all done. My flowerbed is done minus waiting for the rest of my stuff to bloom and finding more plants. Past season unless I go somewhere else to shop. When I went for soil I picked up a new stud finder and dh put my shelves up.
Big things that were taking forever and procrastination and delays. I found a good portion of big enough rocks for the edges in the bed itself. I'll get some more from the dirt side of the yard.
The frustrating part was dad trying to invite us to the kids other side of the family gathering. Ddil had some relatives come see them and a grad party or something at dad's campsite. Kids didn't invite us cause it's her side and that was what we thought. Dad just assumed we come? No? We were not gonna. I was going to go do some in the greenhouse but not necessarily visit there. But then my sister came here and those projects are out of the way.
Didn't do much in the house. It's actually not bad. Kitchen was clean. It has a bunch of big things that just need to be put away. Straighten some stuff and I should vacuum. Plus a few things from the store.
It can be busy today cause I do have to get some in the greenhouse. And bible study. First off some groceries and think the no seeds nuts whole grains. Different bread. What kind of veggies can I have with no seeds or excess fiber. Then bible study. Lunch and go do some in the greenhouse.
Priority list
Straighten main living space
Put big strong away in kitchen and clean
Groceries
Bible study
Must do greenhouse

Hi helian. Did you read a book for book club or just have a get together? You all typically read interesting things.
We went to Kohls because I had Kohls cash with no plans to spend it.

Re: Wild Rose Wednesday
Hi L Ann, no, we didn't read a book for this meeting. I think it had been almost a year since we last met. Going forward, we've decided to meet every 3 months just to share books we've read since the last meeting. No assigned reading. Did you spend your Kohls cash?

Re: Wild Rose Wednesday
I'm sure that Little Bit was very pleased with her outing, L.Ann.
Those roses sound wonderful, Lauralind. We have big rose bushes that produce rose hips on the grounds of the apartment building, and I always enjoy seeing and smelling them.
You got lots done yesterday, helian, and a load of laundry along with it. My big accomplishment yesterday was getting laundry done.
Thank you for the beautiful start, Kittykatt. There are so many species of roses that we could keep this going for a long time.
Today I would like to go to the farm stall to get local vegetables, have a phone visit with my db, and clean everything in sight. That should keep me busy, LOL.

Helian it's the nasty test prep. I'm not supposed to have nuts or seeds or legumes for the week before.
Edited my plan I guess I will go to town after bible study. Did a bit more rearrange in the living room and back entry and dd called for half hour or so. Now I'm off. Town after. Then eat something and go see what I can do in the greenhouse.
