The mistle thrush (Turdus viscivorus) is a bird common to much of Europe, temperate Asia and North Africa. It is a year-round resident in a large part of its range, but northern and eastern populations migrate south for the winter, often in small flocks.

It is a large thrush with pale grey-brown upper parts, a greyish-white chin and throat, and black spots on its pale yellow and off-white under parts. The sexes are similar in plumage, and its three subspecies show only minimal differences. The male has a loud, far-carrying song which is delivered even in wet and windy weather, earning the bird the old name of stormcock. Historically, the name was also sometimes spelled "missel thrush".

Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday!

L.Ann, I hope you can easily get the antibiotics that DD needs, and that her abscess quickly responds and settles down again.

I never made it back yesterday, but the coffees went smoothly, and I managed a lot in my garden. We had a few showers, but not enough to water everything, so I watered the front garden in the evening.

Today's most important things: scan / photocopy the menu for parish lunch, send an out email to those on email, and get paper copy together for those who aren't on email -aim to take this to church on Thursday, so it will be there ready and waiting for the main service on Sunday. Email churchwarden HT, and ask her to include info about sign up sheet in the notice sheet and in the notices before the service on Sunday.

Go through boxes in garage and out those we really don't need out for recycling.

DH goes to the office today, hence why I'm trying to get office things done today. Of course, there's always the possibility that the printer won't play nicely, so I'll need to ask or his help!

Have a good day, everyone!

Happy Monday!
I see you've been doing roses last week, and birdies this week, kittykatt! We have so many birds in our garden - more and more each year, it's getting kinda loud in the evenings :-)

We came back from our seaside vacation last night - I am already on lol No. 5 :-) It was great fun, the kids enjoyed it, I read three books, but I think it's time we find another hotel, as their previously really good cooking got a bit worse, and we got a smaller apartment than before. I am not upset, I have been thinking about changing the destination for quite some time, but I think this will be the final nudge (as otherwise, it really was perfect for us - so many things I didn't know I needed from a resort were there, aside from the required 6 person family room, which is rather rare in itself, it was a safe secluded location outside of the bustling town, snacks were available all day long, lots of Czech kids for ours to play with etc...). So it was a bit of bittersweet goodbye, as we first went there when DBD was not even 1 year old!
I need to deal with laundry, tend to the garden, unpack and then repack again today - we'll leave either tonight or tomorrow early morning for another week at the cottage. So, off I go!

TaDas
- up and dressed to shoes
- breakfast
- flipped overnight load of lights into dryer
- started a load of darks
- internet time
- call dentist as one of the twins has developed an infected lesion and I want it treated ASAP
- some research into possible hotels for next year

ToDos
- 30 on laundry
- 30 in veggie garden (weeding, fertilizing, pruning)
- rescue kitchen (too tired for regular clean-up after dinner yesterday)

Good morning, Trissie! So glad you had a good holiday and had time to relax and read. And you have time to do your research for a new destination before next year!

My main achievement so far today has been to cut Fred's nails and give him a good brush, all without any bloodshed! It's a lot cooler today, so I'm heading out for my walk now, and then, hopefully I'll do something in my garden.

G'mornin', kittykatt and trissie.

What a lovely trip you had, trissie. Just sounds so enjoyable.

Sorry to hear the word "plumber", kittykatt. Hoping it will be quick fixes.

I'm seldom up at this hour but it seems the hot weather makes sleeping uncomfortable even though the air conditioning is helping. Eventually, we have too many thoughts, too little sleepiness, and then we're up.

Have productive days!

Handling cats without bloodshed is always an achievement, kittykatt! :-)
Harriet, lovely to see you, even if that means you had a short night! Are you having a heatwave, or is scorching weather in July a thing where you live?

DH took DtDK to the dentist for an emergency appointment - he texted me she's a tooth less (it was a baby tooth anyway) and the dentist is confident it will heal out nicely. I'm glad we were able to get her seen right away, tooth abscesses can be very dangerous and it certainly would not be fun if she had to deal with that during her scout camp in August!
