Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Welsh rarebit or Welsh rabbit is a dish of hot cheese sauce, often including ale, mustard, or Worcestershire sauce, served on toasted bread. The origins of the name are unknown, though the earliest recorded use is 1725 as "Welsh rabbit", a jocular name as the dish contains no rabbit; the earliest documented use of "Welsh rarebit" is in 1781. Variants include English rabbit, Scotch rabbit, buck rabbit, golden buck, and blushing bunny.
Though there is no strong evidence that the dish originated in Welsh cuisine, it is sometimes identified with the Welsh caws pobi 'baked cheese', documented in the 1500s.
Some recipes simply melt grated cheese on toast, making it identical to cheese on toast. Others make the sauce of cheese, ale, and mustard, and garnished with cayenne pepper or paprika. Other recipes add wine or Worcestershire sauce. The sauce may also blend cheese and mustard into a béchamel sauce.

Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for the start. Welsh rarebit is one of my favourites! We often have it as a very tasty topping for potatoes baked in their jackets.
Helian, your holiday sounds beautifully relaxing, and a lovely together time for your family. DH is going to Leeds for a few days for work.
,
Gma, you worked so hard at your DMum's house. I'm sure you'll sleep very well!
Dogged, you got lots done too, and I'm sure you'll pass the inspection with flying colours. And it's your last day of work today !
I'm having a slightly slower start today, as DH doesn't want to leave for the station until 9.30 am. But I have plans for the rest of the day! I need to get the kitchen cleared of "stuff" so I can clean it more easily, so the sensible thing to do would be to wrap those four boxes I have listed on eBay and take them down to the garage. The boxes I haven't listed are in another crate, so I could take them through to the sitting room for now. That will clear a lot of space and reveal the rest of the "stuff" that needs to be dealt with. And for a bit of light relief (so I don't get bored in the kitchen!
) I'm going to start emptying that tallboy ready to move I to the bedroom . That should keep me out of mischief!

Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Thank you for the start, trissie. I love cheese on toast, any way that it comes.
You have a busy day ahead of you, Kittykatt. You're not going to move that tallboy by yourself, are you?
I have finished cleaning myself and the bathroom and have stayed up unreasonably late, probably from the excitement. As soon as the rice is cooked I'll head to bed.
Have a good day, all.

Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Sleep well, Dogged! Just to reassure you, I'll be taking the drawers out of the tallboy before moving it, and once the drawers are out, the frame is quite light to move.
I also have some gliders to put under the feet, which help considerably. Then it's just a case of emptying the drawers into crates, cleaning them out and putting them back in once it's in position in the bedroom.
It's supposed to rain again today, but in case it turns out like yesterday, when the afternoon and evening were sunny, I need to work on the front of the house this morning.
I'm back from safely delivering DH to the station, so breakfast for me next (I spent the time I could have had breakfast earlier taking Fred out and playing in my front garden
), and then I'll decide whether to start in the kitchen or the spare room. Maybe take turns and do an hour on each?

Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Taking a break for lunch now. I've made reasonable progress on the kitchen and even though it probably looks worse now than before I started, at least almost everything that shouldn't be in there has gone. And I've run a quick duster and the hoover round downstairs.

Re: Welsh Rarebit Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
So, is today the day of the inspection, and also your last day of work for the moment, Dogged?
How was the weather, kittykatt? We've had rain on and off today, so I guess we are weather twins again!
helia, you asked ydsterday - pregnancy is considered to be full term 40 weeks, but ig a baby is born after the 37 weeks mark, it's considered to be a "term birth" with no associated risks.
Posting from the train home today. I did not stall, however due to the weather (I am rather sensitive to atmospheric pressure changes) I was not as productive during the day and only picked up in speed at 4pm, and I was so close to finishing my fraud investigation that I just worked on it till 5:30pm. There was no real proof of a fraud, but it had to be investigated from all angles before I could give my recommendation to drop it, so I spent all day doing rather pointless research. I did come across a problematic part in our internal processes, so there's something positive about it, and I can add another skill to my ever-growing skillset, so I am going to be positive.
And now I am off to face the madness of our house - I wonder whether DH was able to fix the kids a lunch today? They were on leftovers and "fend for yourself" yesterday - I mean, at 8, 12 and 14, they are old enough not to starve to death and they can fix some basic meals, so I do not worry much
I am not going to the office till next Tuesday, so I hope to conquer any messes in the meantime.
TaDas
- to work reasonably on time
- completed fraud investigation and final report
- bought myself colourfull nailpolishes as I had about 15 minutes spare before the train departure
ToDos
- deal with madness and routines at home
- dinner
- fold the load of lights I dumped straight from the drier on the bed, as I needed the dryer space
