Spa) is a brand of lunch meat (processed canned pork and ham) made by Hormel Foods Corporation, an American multinational food processing company. It was introduced in the United States in 1937 and gained popularity worldwide after its use during World War II.[1] As of 2003, Spam was sold in 41 countries, and trademarked in more than 100, on six continents.

Spam's main ingredients are pork shoulder and ha] with salt, water, modified potato starch (as a binder), sugar, and sodium nitrite (as a preservative). Natural gelatin is formed during cooking in its cans on the production line.[4] It is available in different flavors, some using different meats, as well as in "lite" and lower-sodium versions. Spam is precooked, making it safe to consume straight from the can, but it is often cooked further for taste. The United Kingdom has adopted Spam into various recipes. For example, sliced, battered and deep-fried into Spam fritters.

Spam has become part of popular culture, including a Monty Python sketch, which repeated the name many times, leading to its name being borrowed to describe unsolicited electronic messages, especially email.[8] It is occasionally celebrated at festivals such as Spamarama in Austin, Texas

Good morning, lovies!

Never made it here yesterday. We decided to do a one day trip to the cottage, mainly a work trip - as it was raining / foggy most of the week we were there, DH never got to oiling the outside furniture and the terrase railing, and I had all of the clean linens and blankets and pillows that I needed to take there, and some outside work (I kinda gave up on the gardening there, I barely manage the garden at our house).
We also never took a trip to a castle on Friday - the kids were unenthusiastic and I had a lot of work around the house.
Today, there's no big plans, so I'm gonna alternate the garden and indoors.

kittykatt, did you know that spam is actually a very popular gift for the Chuseok fest in South Korea? Apparently, South Koreans consider the fatty and salty spam a special treat that's been integrated in their local cuisine and they are the world's biggest consumers of it!

Thank you kittykatt for the start and for your Spam info - I thought I had seen most Monty Python episodes, but it seems I was wrong. And now I know why unwanted email is called spam - I had read about the canned meat brand but had never thought there was a link between the two.

trissie, how courageous of you to dedicate weekend days to work on your cottage. I see how a rainy weather can interfere with your plans however. Were you disappointed not to bring your children to visit the castle ? I like to plan a few "cultural" events in the summer, for my kids' benefit as well as for my own.

Busy weeks, and on weekends I try and catch up with what the kids have been up to with their dad, also I do things with them so MrNG can have a break, as he is the one entertaining them most of the week - and they spent Friday at the daycare place since he had a job-search-related meeting.
Also yesterday I spent the first part of morning, when kids are still asleep, searching for a camping place in the Netherlands : we still haven't booked anything for our two weeks in August, still hesitating between the East of France (Alsace, the Vosges national park) or Belgium or the Netherlands, so MrNG searched Eastern France campings and I searched NL campings. There are still pitching spots left. SOme Dutch camping places look so "military" organized, with camping-cars and caravans all parallel and in nice rows, it's a bit intimidating. And our kids don't speak enough English yet, so we will stay in France this summer.
Rainy day forecast (although the sun is hining just right now), not sure what we will be able to do. I want hum no but I prefer to start cooking lunch and dinner while the house is still quiet.

Frenchie, I was not too upset about not taking kids for a trip - I mean, quite frankly, I'd rather do housework than deal with three bickering and moody teens and an easily bored 8 year old who alternates "are we there yet?" and "can we go home now?"
