Thomas Tunnock Limited, commonly known as Tunnock's, is a Scottish confectionery company based in Uddingston, Scotland. It is headed by Boyd Tunnock, grandson of Thomas. In 2013, a joint report by Family Business United and Close Brothers Asset Management named it the 20th oldest family firm in Scotland.

Tunnock's was formed by Thomas Tunnock (b. 1865) as Tunnock's in 1890, when he purchased a baker's shop in Lorne Place, Uddingston. The company expanded in the 1950s, and it was at this time that the core products were introduced to the lines, when sugar and fat rationing meant that products with longer shelf-lives than cakes had to be produced.

The Tunnock's Teacake is a sweet food often served with a cup of tea or coffee. It was developed by Sir Boyd Tunnock in 1956, and consists of a small round shortbread biscuit covered with a dome of Italian meringue, a whipped egg white concoction similar to marshmallow, although somewhat lighter in texture. This is then encased in a thin layer of milk or dark chocolate and wrapped in a red and silver foil paper for the more popular milk chocolate variety, with blue, black, and gold wrapping for the dark.

Retired RAF bomber pilot Tony Cunnane told of how Tunnock's Teacakes became a favourite ration snack of the V bomber nuclear deterrent flight crews based at RAF Gaydon, especially after discovering that they expanded at high altitude. In 1965 this ended after one was left unwrapped and exploded on the instrument panel and led to a ban by the RAF.

In April 2025 the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine gave the all-clear for the teacakes to be used in flights again, after tests in an altitude chamber found the teacakes did not explode!

Since 2005, Tunnock's has sponsored the Tour of Mull, an annual car rally held on the Isle of Mull.

Twins Mum,.I never answered you question yesterday. I have to write everything down, or I run the risk of forgetting it! My lists were a mixture of things I like to do on a daily or weekly basis (somehow there's a satisfaction in ticking them off as they're done! ) appointments, things that need doing urgently and things I intend to do "one day".

Today DH is hopefully going to his brother's for a long weekend (there was some doubt whether this is still happening yesterday evening and DBIL wasn't feeling great) and it's also parish lunch at a local pub after church. That also had a small crisis yesterday evening as DF E rang me to tell me she's been in hospital (!) this week and didn't feel up to coming. (I gather it's something to do with her blood pressure doing weird things and making her dizzy. They e changed her meds, but she's still feeling very tired and understandably doesn't feel up to coming). I know she's 99, but she sounded "old" on the phone, which is unusual for her . But I know she's continuing to get very good care now she's back at home. This was around 8pm, but the pub of course would still be open, so I quickly emailed them to let them know we're now 11. I'm just hoping everyone else remembers and no one else drops out!

Other than that, there's the Waitrose delivery between 6-7 pm, and I would like to get another box wrapped -maybe while I'm in the kitchen waiting? And the front garden could do with watering, if it doesn't rain!

Kitty, I'd never heard of Tunnock's Teacakes before! LOL @ the exploding cookie! But probably not funny at the time. 11 still sounds like a large number for lunch! I hope E feels better.

I'm up early for me. I need to be across town in 35 minutes for my work out with the personal trainer.

It rained off and on most of the night and is damp and gray but not actively raining right now. The cool air coming through the windows feels wonderful!

Today, I have nothing on my calendar after the work out! I'd like to finish the desk, finish laundry, spend some time writing, get some things off my brain dump list. Maybe go for a walk. Perhaps this would be a good day to go to the craft store to buy supplies so I can knit something for baby dgd; I also need a yarn needle to finish ds' baby sweater -- which I'm giving to his daughter. 32 years after I started it. Dinner is TBD but probably pulling from the freezer as the freezer is becoming too full.

kittykatt, thanks for the start, and the pat on the back. I do have to confess that the one cupboard I decluttered is only 1 of 4, plus a closet and a cutting surface that I cannot cut on because it is so full of "stuff." But as they say, inch by inch....
helian, I love that you can finally see the rewards of your labor for a baby sweater that you made long ago!

chipmunk trap checked and empty. Maybe there was only one? I'll move it to another location tomorrow if it is empty after tonight.

package up several things to mail to dsis2. Things she left when she was here, plus a dress I found in my closet I can send to her. It has not been urgent - but I want to get them out of here, not wait until she comes in December to take them home - and then she will not want to take them because she will have limited luggage space. But no, I am not mailing the newspapers she left scattered around the house and porch as my other sister suggested. I put them into the recycle soon after she left, and spent 12 hours cleaning mother's house (where she stayed for 2 weeks).
get vacuum cleaner bags for mother's house - I just used the last one.
Church -> office sells discounted gas cards for benefit of church budget. there is a plastic recycle for grocery bags and such. When we reach a certain weight, the company that collects gives us a sitting bench made out of the plastic wood they make from the recycling.
mother-> call her, go see her later this evening, set her hair in rollers as cousins are coming to go out for noon tomorrow. Should I go there twice today and spend afternoon with her as well. Activities today are not of interest for her.
2 buttons need to be sewn on to her sweater. Others need reinforcing.
That looks like quite a list. My lsits are never the same from day to day!

Little Bit decided on story time at the library so we did that. DGD would stay the whole summer, GMA and DGS gets homesick pretty fast. He had to either go home on Wednesday morning or stay until the weekend. He wanted to stay until Thursday but that wasn’t an option with his dad’s schedule. We had a nice time and he will come back again. I loved having them but it was a long month so I am ready for “normal”. DM died on the 4th, DD32 got sick again on the 6th(thankfully the meds she is on meant she could fight off the infection without a hospitalization but we were hoping she wouldn’t get sick again), we left on the 8th to see the Utah family and then I had grandkids from the 15-30.

Wow! That IS a lot in one month, L Ann. I hope August is a normal month for you.
We've got gazillions of chipmunks here, Gma. Last night, dh and I observed a young hawk perched on a branch of the white pine next to our back patio. That's a good way to clear out critters. Good luck with phone calls to insurance companies. I've found that my mom's health insurance company has very good customer service! I don't dread calling them.

I've had lunch and I'm now heading into my afternoon. Not sure I'll go to the craft store today; I can bundle it with a trip to visit my mom more conveniently tomorrow.
