Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster (born November 19, 1962) is an American actress and filmmaker. Foster started her career as a child actor before establishing herself as leading actress in film. She has received several accolades including two Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Foster also was awarded with the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2013 and the Honorary Palme d'Or in 2021.

Foster began her career as a child model and gained recognition as a teen idol through Disney films including Napoleon and Samantha (1972), Freaky Friday (1976), and Candleshoe (1977). She appeared in Martin Scorsese's comedy-drama Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974). For her role as a teenage prostitute in Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976), she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other early films include Tom Sawyer (1973), Bugsy Malone (1976), The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976), Carny (1980), and Foxes (1980).

After attending Yale University, Foster transitioned into mature leading roles and won Academy Awards for Best Actress for playing a rape victim in The Accused (1988) and Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). She was also nominated for Nell (1994), and Nyad (2023). She has acted in Sommersby (1993), Maverick (1994), Contact (1997), Anna and the King (1999), Panic Room (2002), Flightplan (2005), Inside Man (2006), The Brave One (2007), Nim's Island (2008), Carnage (2011), Elysium (2013), The Mauritanian (2021). On television, she starred in the HBO anthology series True Detective: Night Country (2024), for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe.

Foster has directed four feature length films: Little Man Tate (1991), Home for the Holidays (1995), The Beaver (2011), and Money Monster (2016).[1] She founded a production company, Egg Pictures, in 1992. Foster also received Primetime Emmy nominations for producing The Baby Dance (1998) and for directing the Orange Is the New Black episode "Lesbian Request Denied" (2013). She has also directed episodes of Tales from the Darkside (1988), House of Cards (2014), the Black Mirror episode "Arkangel" (2017), and Tales from the Loop (2020).

Happy Friday, all!

Off work today. The goal is to work in the kids' rooms, to get as much decluttering done as possible. I'm gonna have to establish some rules with the twins, as their room was HORRENDOUS - yes, they are tweens and should be responsible for their room, but I really cannot tolerate every single shelf and drawer containing a hidden mixture of things - trash, art projects, clean or maybe dirty clothes, and things that belong somewhere (or to someone) else. So many things I found that I was missing, or that they made me search for (like a dress that Katie wanted to wear for end of school year - in a large sports equipment drawer under her bed!). I was bad at keeping my room tidy (and it took FlyLady to teach me how to keep a household tidy... before kids came along), but nowhere close to THIS!

Anyway, off my soap box. For those who enquired about chokeberry juice - I use it to make syrup (as a basis for homemade lemonade, neither kids nor DH are fans of plain water, so they add a splash of syrup to their water), and if there's overwhelmingly much of it, to make wine. I'll make a couple batches today, and the rest will be frozen, as I don't have enough syrup bottles.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. I had heard of Jodie Foster, but couldn't remember many of the films she had appeared in! The Twins' room sounds a big challenge! I'm sure they have enough storage, but it sounds as though they don't know (or care?!) where things go. Would labelling at the drawers/shelves help at all? I know it sounds drastic, but then they would have no excuse for not knowing where the t shirts etc belonged. DF CW 's DD G nearly 13 yo is currently in the process of having her bedroom completely redone 666. Everything had to come out of the room and be seriously decluttered. G is currently sleeping in their spare room. The plasterer comes Monday while they are away on holiday, so the walls should be ready for painting when they come home. G is also getting new flooring of her choice for her room, so long as she is polite and respectful to her mother. Otherwise, she may be living with bare boards in her room for a while!!!

Gma, you're a very good friend to your DF BS, and she is very lucky to have you. How lovely that you'll be seeing your college roommate again, even if it is for a funeral.

Sorry your BMX event was cancelled, Dogged, but WTG getting that box filled and down to the basement. Thank you for your kind words about Jude. She's now down to 5kg, and her ideal weight should be around 4.5-4.6 kg, so we have a way to go yet, so probably at least another 6- 8 months of weight reduction and then she'll still need to be monitored to ensure she doesn't start to gain weight again, but slow and steady wins the race!

Today is supposed to be fine again. I have a "free" Friday, so hopefully a good session in my garden, some housework and a walk are my main goals. Also, can I ring the plumber? (Check first if tap has stopped dripping! If it has, I'll leave it until if /when it starts again). Apparently he's employed as a plumber during the day for a company, but does freelance work in the evening . (Why am I so anxious about contacting someone new, and speaking to them on the phone? ) Some decluttering in the bedroom would also be good (I seem to have failed at that during the week )'&:;-';-!&::;!!!! Matilda's contribution!! and I need to fold and PA laundry once it's dry

Good morning! Thanks for the start, trissie. Jodie Foster has always been a very talented actress. I remember seeing her in The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane when I was a teenager and even then was impressed with how mature and professional she seemed.
Thank you for the info about the chokeberry syrup. I never even realized that they are edible. We just left them for the birds for the winter.

Dogged, chokeberries are considered superfood - they have many positive health effects: https://www.news-medical.net/news/20240 ... berry.aspx and are even known to help prevent and fight growth of cancer cells. Funny thing - they work best when combined with dairy, and guess what - at least here in Europe they are like number one food colorant for fruit yoghurts! But I didn't know any of that before planting the bush, it was our crazy garden architect with his love of unusual species who suggested it
kittykatt, enjoy your free Friday! The girls know very well where things go, and their storage space is organized enough to allow for easy separation, they just don't care! And I mean, there is absolutely no excuse for having candy wrappers in their sock drawer, when they have a trash bin three feet away!

Trissie, I can understand your exasperation with the Girls' room!

My day got a bit hijacked, as when I was getting dressed, DH announced that for his visit to the steam railway next Wednesday (which he has known about for at least two weeks!) there is a dress code, as he will be shadowing one of the volunteers (ticket collector? Guard? Shed person? Train polisher? Idk). Anyway, he needs a white short sleeved button down shirt, black trousers and preferably black stout shoes or work boots. Black trousers - tick. He has a pair of dark brown stout shoes, which will do for this first time. But he does not possess a white short sleeved shirt! This is the result of 5 years WFH and an increasingly relaxed office dress code when he does to to the office. I can remember when he wore a button down shirt (with tie) to the office every day. Now it's shorts and t shirt in summer and jeans and t shirt in the winter (unless he is meeting suppliers etc). I remember all his white work shirts went to the charity shop some years ago, as they were very worn round the collar and also getting somewhat snug!

He does have two really nice very good quality long sleeved formal shirts that fit well, which he wears for concerts, but they would be too hot this time of year, and I certainly don't want them going down to a railway yard where there's going to be lots oil, grease, coal and general grime.

So I had a quick look on the M& S app and found something suitable, but he said they were too expensive.(Sigh. lve tried to explain numerous times, without success, that *everywhere* has got a lot more expensive) However, eBay has come to the rescue, with a seller selling what's I obviously last year's overstock, brand new at reduced prices. They did quote the sizes slightly differently, but the M&S app came to the rescue , as it has a size guide chart. I had to size up a tiny bit, but that's ok as he will need room to move. If he ever needs to wear a tie with it and it looks obviously too big round the neck, I can always move the top button slightly. The alternative was sizing down a tiny bit, which I don't think is a good idea. He certainly hasn't lost any weight since I last measured him! Delivery is supposed to be between Monday and Wednesday, so there's a good chance it will arrive on time. And if by chance it doesn't, he'll just have to wear his white polo shirt and explain! I've also bookmarked the seller, so if this shirt is a success I can order him some more . When winter comes, if they are allow to wear long sleeved shirts then, I'll see if I can find some "every day" shirts for him from the same seller.

Since then, I've taken a very patient Freddie for his walk, and had my breakfast. I'm going out in the garden next, as it's still pleasantly cool.
