Re: Tongariro National Park Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Tongariro National Park, located in the central North Island, is the oldest national park in New Zealand and the sixth national park established in the world. It has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its mixed cultural and natural values.
The active volcanic mountains Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro are located in the centre of the park. Three ski fields operate from the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, and the park is also a popular recreation area for hiking, fishing, hunting and other outdoor pursuits. Tongariro National Park is home to the famed Tongariro Alpine Crossing, widely regarded as one of the world's best one-day hikes.
The natural environment of the park ranges from temperate rainforest to beech forest, tussock shrubland and alpine ecosystems. A variety of endemic and native birds and plants are found in the park.
There are a number of Māori religious sites within the park, and many of the park's summits, including Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu, are tapu, or sacred.
There are many small towns around the boundary of the park including Ohakune, Waiouru, Horopito, Pokaka, Erua, National Park Village and Tūrangi.
In Māori legend the volcanoes in Tongariro National Park are personified. Various versions of the basic story exist: Tongariro and Taranaki were both in love with Ruapehu or Pihanga and had a great battle. Taranaki lost the battle and fled west towards the coast, carving out the Whanganui River on the way. The Tama Lakes, two crater lakes between Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe, are said to represent the gap left when Taranaki departed.
Peter Jackson shot scenes on Ruapehu for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy including Mt Doom, Ithilien and Mordor.

Re: Tongariro National Park Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning,Trissie, and thank you for another interesting start.
Gma, you had a very busy day yesterday! How wise to take advantage of the butter being on sale. After all, it keeps well in the fridge.
Today DH is WFH and I'm meeting DF PL for coffee this afternoon. So, I want to try and finish my housework before I leave, so it's not sitting waiting for me when I come back! Not sure what the weather on is doing yet - the forecasts have been somewhat unreliable ATM, despite the Met office's recent new "supercomputer".
Some more of those admin tasks would be good (this evening, when DH is out?) and maybe a few more little bits of deep cleaning - it would be good to get those curtains back up. Dnextdoorneighbour C also told me yesterday that Dneighbour S wants to paint his fence that borders on both our gardens. Which means I need to finish pruning the climbing rose and get it tied in, so it's possible to reach the fence! However, I'm not too worried, as we went through the same routine this time last year... and the fence is still unpainted!!!

Re: Tongariro National Park Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Thanks for another interesting national park opening, trissie. I have been to this park -- though only for a very short walk as we were driving by the park at the end of a day of driving; we were tired and ready to get to our destination. We took a small detour into the park because I wanted to see "Mt. Doom" a little more up close and personal.
Are you feeling OK after your procedure, L Ann? I didn't get back here yesterday.
You've probably already had coffee with your friend PL by this time, Kitty. I hope you enjoyed it! Did you get your admin tasks done?
Last night, dh and I moved the dresser out of the nursing home, so everything is now out of the room. I spoke with the director of the memory care floor, and she said they would take care of the wheelchair.
Today, I have a lot on my plate. Get together with K, S2, and J at 10. This afternoon, I need to get groceries so we can make a meal for the Tuesday dinner crew that we'll be hosting tonight, perhaps 5 of us. A jog would be good - but I'm not sure it will happen; I also need to get going on exam prep for payroll, which is technically due Thursday but I won't make that. And I'm behind on laundry and the bed needs clean sheets. Then, of course, we'll be hosting dinner 6:30 - ? tonight. . .
I'm still feeling tired and a little blah. I suppose that is to be expected. Giving myself grace today. I will not get everything done.
Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
Later:
- reclaim kitchen
- make the bed
- some qt - this afternoon
- gas the car
- 9:30 call charity - do they want the dresser?
- 10 - 12:30-ish KS2J get together
- knitting progress while I'm there
- lunch
- grocery lists
- Kroger
- WF
- put everything away
- go for a jog?
- payroll: start exam prep - BR Exam draft
- dinner: pasta with chickpeas and spinach, salad, GF baguettes
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- health apps
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - lower for some reason

Re: Tongariro National Park Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
kittykatt, would "dealing with the roses" be on your list anyway?
a tractor parade sounds interesting, L.Ann!
Well, I wonder if three will be the charm and you will have visited the park too, helia! That's a really full day, and good luck getting through everything!
As for me... could we, like, not do days like this? That would be very helpful! It's five pm, I just got home and I had to pour myself a bit of whiskey - I don't drink much, and I never drink during the day (if at all, a glass of wine will be a treat with a book just before bed), but I am emotionally exhausted. But at least of the five things this week that had me stressed out, four are out of the way (three today)!
TaDas
- morning madness
- sort and delay start a load of colors
- to work somewhat on time
- a not exactly pleasant meeting (but I was not the main b***h today, as I was in the last two meetings, today a colleague took over in being a PITA and insisting on things being done properly)
- help DS solve a problem with his permission slip (being a "friend on the phone" for an autistic child is very exhausting!)
- DS's psychiatry apt (adding new meds to the mix)
- visit my paternal grandmother in hospital - due to difficult family relationships, I have not seen her in ten years... and apparently nobody had my phone number anymore, so it took my cousin a month to locate me through social media, which I don't use under my real name outside professional networks. That one was a major stressor since he called me yesterday, because what do you say after ten years? Plus, what would I say if I actually encountered some other family member from my late father's side? Turns out, I said hi and they said hi. Duh.. glad I got it out of the way within 24 hours from the call and a lot of weight is lifted from my mind
- quickie grocery run, and finally get something to eat at 4pm, as I have had nothing but coffee since 6am
- flip laundry to dryer and start a load of wool
- rounds talking to kids
ToDos
- morning routine
- clean master bathroom
- gather books to return to library tomorrow

WOW, that's a LOT! trissie. How was the visit with your grandmother? Did she recognize you? How ill is she? It would be good if there could be some reconciliation in the family and you could feel connected.
I have another full day -
already
my landscape guy came to get the TV aerial out fo my yard.
I have made rice pudding for mother (3 horus on top of stove)
cooked chicken for her and pureed it with some soup she likes, to give her hidden and extra protein. She's not eating well, adn this should be good for her.
unloaded, loaded dw.
Time to go see her at her lunch time, then come back home and work in my yard.
Then return to her to see that she eats some supper.
Finally last night before I left, one of the aides told me that they appreciate all that I do for her. That it helps them.

Re: Tongariro National Park Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
gma, I am afraid there's too much to unpack... and I don't even know if I want to. To make a long and complicated story short, my father was the black sheep of his family (three brothers, him the eldest, and a youngest sister). My mother blamed my grandparents for treating my father differently than the other kids and her differently than the other daughters in law (which I think was true, but it may also have had something to do with both her and my father's attitudes, and also, if you marry the black sheep of the family, you kinda have to expect that you won't be the golden star). Then she blamed them for not intervening in the failure of my parents' marriage and taking the side of their son. Then my father had a falling out with his father and never set foot in their place from 1992 (when I was 11) to his death in 2009. And then my uncle cheated me and my sister out of the inheritance after our father (not that there was much of it, but still!!!).
The rest of the family, they are a closed-knit family circle and we were never part of it, and after forty years I don't really care anymore. But my grandmother is a kind woman, even if she was always very passive, and I can and will visit her. She's 93, she was living independently till August, but then something happened and now she can't get up (I don't really know and I don't think the doctors know too well either, but there's a family WA group where info is shared and I have been added so will likely learn more). She's mostly present, somewhat confused, but she did recognize me, eventhough I don't know if she will remember I was there.
Anyway... yeah, lots on my mind today. And I never posted my last set!
TaDas

Hello, trissie, kittykatt, helia, LAnn, gma!
Trissie, family can be awkward but at least you know you’ve done what you could, enjoy a sip of whiskey to take the edge off your work day. I don’t drink but after my mom passed I did indulge some, it helped my emotional side get through the rough spots.
Dh and I have been keeping busy with yard work and errands. He was off yesterday to see a new neurologist. Ordered labs and an mri to screen for Parkinson’s (he definitely has onset) and possible Alzheimer’s. Got labs done yesterday, waiting on hospital to schedule the mri. Was prescribed a dopamine rx, apparently lack of dopamine causes a lot of brain issues.
My house is trashed after being ignored since Thursday or so, I’ve been ignoring it all morning, now it’s time to get real and get busy.
