Thayatal National Park (German: Nationalpark Thayatal) is a 13.3 km2 Austrian national park located in the Lower Austrian border area with the Czech Republic. It connects to the Czech Podyjí National Park. The Thayatal with its steep hillside forests is one of the most beautiful breakthrough valleys in Austria. The highest point is the gneiss mountain around which the Thaya flows.

The basis for the national park is the Lower Austrian National Park Act. It was agreed between the republic and the federal state back in 1997. It is largely based on the international criteria for national parks published by the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The Thayatal is referred to as a Category II area. When it was founded, it was planned to enlarge it to 1.7 km2.

250 ha of the core zone of the national park belong to the WILDForest areas certified by the European Wilderness Society; 2 km of the Thaya is also certified as a WILDRiver.

In addition to the town of Hardegg, Burg Hardegg and the Kaja ruins are located in the national park. In Hardegg, visitors can walk directly from the Austrian part over the Thaya bridge, which forms the state border, into the Czech National Park or go by bike.

In addition to the orientation towards the sun, the shape of the valley and the chemical properties of the underground rock are also responsible for the ecological diversity.

Numerous rare animal and plant species were able to defend their habitat in the Thayatal: otters, dice snakes, crested newts and white-tailed eagles as winter guests benefit from the intact river ecosystem. Black stork, Aesculapian snake and white-backed woodpecker live hidden in the near-natural forest. The dry grassland and rocky sites are also an important habitat for endangered species such as the eastern green lizard, smooth snake, eagle owl and common raven. After opening the Iron Curtain, animal species that have already disappeared in Austria have been spotted in the Thayatal: the elk and the wildcat.

trissie, It sounds like a very lovely place. Thanks for the start and the description.

I have just returned from the NH. Got mother to eat a little. I can get her to eat much more than they can. I am recognizing some increased weakness and end stage behaviors/ symptoms, but don't know if they are truly end stage or if they are consequences of covid and she will recover. In the meantime, we will giver her the best supportive care we can to give her frail 101 year old body as much of a chance to survive as possible.
I do know that she wants to get strong enough to come out to see my new yard and roof.

I have to get up in the morning to go to a reception at 10 and formal worship service of installation of 2 new chaplains at our local college. There will be many people there who will want to know how mother is doing.

Good morning/ good afternoon,

Trissie, Gma and L.Ann!

Thank you for another interesting start, Trissie!

Gma, hopefully the incentive of wanting to come and see your new home renovations will encourage your DMum to get stronger again.

L.Ann, I hope the weather cooperates for your walk. We are cloudy but still dry today, but I think rain is expected tomorrow.

I'm back home after a very good service (we are attracting more College and University students, which is very encouraging) and I picked up the tickets and poster for the Christmas lunch from the printers - they've done a really good job. I've had lunch and Fred is now on my lap. This afternoon I'm planning to do something in the garden, while it's still actually dry!

Thank you for another interesting park, trissie. I'm getting ideas to add to my bucket list! This one sounds beautiful. I've been to Austria several times - but always to hike in the Alps. We once stayed in Salzburg for a few days before a multi-day hike and visited Vienna once.
Enjoy walking outside, L Ann. Are you having gorgeous weather like we are?
Gma, you're taking such good care of your mom. I wonder if I had made homemade pureed food if my mom would have eaten more. I'm not sure the end result would have been significantly different for her. She really liked yogurt! It was the last thing she ate.
Kitty, I hope the church service this morning is lovely. --Oh, I see it was! Enjoy your garden time!

I slept about 9.5 hours last night.

I'm going to consider today a personal day or a "mental health" day. I've been feeling a bit down and very very tired lately - hoping the longer sleep last night will help. I don't have anything on my calendar for a very unusual change. K, S2, and J are getting together at 1 to go roller skating in a nearby park, and I'm technically a "maybe". However, I don't own roller skates, and after my last fall while jogging, I'm a little anxious about falling again. I could walk/ jog instead, but they'd be off together roller skating, and I'd be going at my own pace -- and I'd rather not navigate that. Also, I'm way behind on everything, so an open day to get caught up and to rest a bit is more inviting to me.

Today, J (the Cs' daughter) turns 12! I might try to drop off a card + small treat at her house.

Morning all. Gma that's so tough. I think you are amazing helping with her care. I truly hope she can get strong enough to see all the new changes you've had done.

Trissie is that park close to where you live?

Morning lann.

I am up and been reminded several times that I have late shift today. Lol. Since I missed it a few times. I have to do freight today. I think I can get it really close to finished but I just have to accept I might have to do a little tomorrow. And insist my young team leader supposed... can deal with everything that I send out and make other progress.

Well I really hope things will work out. We have a home care setup going to start in a few days. Keeping mom clean and showered and just a general health care eye on her with easy connection to the dr if needed. If dad can trust it I think it can set his mind at ease. Knowing someone who is knowledgeable sees mom and it's normal what is happening. Then there's another set up that comes to clean. At least basic cleaning. That should let dad do more of the outside stuff he wants to do. I encouraged him to try it and then it will help him keep her home at long as possible. And there are social workers that know how to make it work with decision making and financing.

Made me a little stressed but it will all fall into place. If he lets it.

Anyway I guess I got most of the list of priorities done except the garden stuff. Took longer at dad's again like always... but that is sorted. Being late shift I should be able to do some catch up this morning and make ds get to school. I think he just felt the firewood day and then he was fine. Oh well. Whatever. Today he can go.

Today's tada list

Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some

Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
General straighten
School run
