The Winter's Tale is a play by William Shakespeare originally published in the First Folio of 1623. Although it was grouped among the comedies, many modern editors have relabelled the play as one of Shakespeare's late romances. Some critics consider it to be one of Shakespeare's "problem plays" because the first three acts are filled with intense psychological drama, while the last two acts are comic and supply a happy ending.

The play has been intermittently popular, having been revived in productions and adaptations by some of the leading theatre practitioners in Shakespearean performance history. In the mid-18th century, after a long interval without major performances, David Garrick premiered his adaptation Florizel and Perdita (first performed in 1753 and published in 1756). The Winter's Tale was revived again in the 19th century, when the fourth "pastoral" act was widely popular. In the second half of the 20th century, The Winter's Tale was often performed in its entirety, drawn largely from the First Folio text, with varying degrees of success.

Fun fact: it takes place on the coast of Bohemia. Thank you, Shakespeare, for giving our little land-locked country a sea! :-)

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off.. Winter's Tale was always one of my favourites. (I'm also reminded of the David Essex Christmas song Winters Tale that was released in the early 1980s (1983?). The poignancy of it really appealed to adolescent me, and as you can guess, I played it constantly on repeat. And I recently discovered that the video for it was actually filmed on Dartmoor.
https://youtu.be/J3c18V3ChIs?si=Aa34ldYXpoDg7r73
Nowadays, I'm not so sure about it! But it's still on my Christmas play list  ).

(((L.Ann))) I'm so very sorry about the cancer, but fortunately it does sound as though it's been caught very early. Praying the surgery will be completely successful, and for straightforward recovery for you.

Planning my day while I'm still in bed. Being realistic, I don't think I'm going to get the duvet to the launderette this week. I really want to have an uninterrupted day today with the housework, and tomorrow really has enough non it already. Maybe I can get up early one "free Friday" and take it then? It's not as though it's desperate!

So, today I'm aiming to clean all of downstairs and hopefully spring clean the stair case (this should be quick and easy, as I have everything I need to hand, and I can always stack the pictures on the landing where they'll be out of the way, and clean them this evening when I'm sitting down. I also need to remember the final touches to the Waitrose order (I'm buying some non perishable Christmas stuff this week, as DH won't be around when it arrives, and I can get it hidden away before he comes home! )

Edited to add: I'm very glad I made good use of a dry day in my garden yesterday, even if it does mean more housework today to "catch up".. Currently it's raining!🌧️

I'm up, showered and dressed, everyone has been fed and medicated, Ive taken Fred out, had a chat with Dneighbour P, taken the rubbish out and run a quick duster round upstairs. Fred and I have also shared some Greek yogurt (he's had a little bit off my finger, which he considers to be Insufficient for a Gentleman of his stature! )

I really need to get started in the sitting room. I still think it was the right thing to spend yesterday in the garden, as even though the rain has stopped it's still very damp and soggy underfoot. But, of course, it does give more to do today!

Took Mom to hospital by ambulance Tuesday morning.
They have given her good amount of fluids. She ahs slept, and awakened around 2 a.m. Then decided she really wanted to drink - so she has had 20 ounces of apple juice! 1/4 tsp at a time.
Dbro, dsis2 have arraived. Mother was sleeping when bro arrived, but was awake and excited to see dsis2. Dsis3, her dh and dog will arrive Wed afternoon. (Taht's still "tomorrow" in my brain, since I havent been to bed yet. )
Heading to bed now. Hospice will meet with us Wednesday morning, as soon as hospital is able to arrange transportation.

Gma, that's amazing news about your DMum! And it's all thanks to you and your knowledge and care. (Just done the calculations and 20 fluid Oz is one of our UK pints - that's a very encouraging amount for her to have drunk! )So glad your DBro and DSis's are able to be there with her too. I do hope hospice will be able to give you the help you need to ensure she comfortable, and has the best quality life.

So glad to hear your mom was able to get rehydrated -- and drink so much apple juice, Gma. I remember my mom coming out of the hospital in such better shape than when she went in. She regained her appetite for a while.
I hope your day of housework is a good one, Kitty.
Have a good day at work, trissie! I'm not sure I've read that Shakespeare play.
Thinking of you L Ann.

It is cool this morning, 45*F. I think this is the first taste of real autumn we've had this year. High is forecast to be 61F -- and sunny!

Today: I really need to get in a jog, but today I'm at work 11-1:15ish (with prep at home beforehand), and then walking with friend B 2 - 3:30-ish. I guess I could jog right after walking. I'm on my own for dinner tonight so there's no deadline to start cooking at a certain time late in the afternoon. OR I could jog before I go in to work if I can prep quickly -- which I think I can do. Other things I'd like to get done: fold and p/a towels, get clean sheets on the bed, pay those bills, figure out what to do with size M sweater that fits like a tent  , get life insurance letters for the trust -- to the trustee.
