The Selkirk Rex is a different breed to the Devon Rex and Cornish Rex, as their curls are not genetically identical. Also, they have significantly more hair than their Devon/Cornish counterparts,.and this coat is the curIiest of any cat ,being more reminiscent of that of a sheep, Their round heads and short noses accentuate their big round eyes, that are set well apart from each other. Their fur is dense (particularly the Longhair), and their body is broad and muscular. Therefore it is unsurprising that they gained the nickname “Sheep Cat” . They are very affectionate towards their owners.

Their curls vary depending on the season, their age and also their hormones. Also, it is not until the age of two that their curls start to take on their adult appearance. Their whiskers are also curly.

The breeders originated in In 1987 in Wyoming, USA, a naturally curly haired kitten was born, who was named “Pesto of No Face”. She crossbred with a Persian and gave birth to six kittens. As three of them had curly hair, this proved that the gene responsible for their curly hair was a dominant gene, (unlike in breeds such as the Devon Rex or Cornish Rex). Further crossbreeding proved that the mother carried both the short hair gene and the long hair gene. So, when the breed was officially recognised, both the "Shorthair" and the "Longhair" Selkirk Rex were acknowledged.

The Selkirk Rex did not arrive in Europe until 1990 and it still remains a rare breed.

lauralind, don't know if you checked yesterday's thread - putting uncooked red kidneybeans in slow cooker can cause food poisoning, as they contain a toxin that needs 10 minutes at boiling temperature to break down completely.

The new washer should be delivered today, anytime between 8am and 8pm. I am supposed to get an SMS with an hour's timeframe, so just in case I had my alarm set for 7am as the bathroom needs some tidying. It's 9am and no word yet, so I gave up my sleep in for nothing! I'm not caught up on laundry, and that's not counting that I will have two loads as soon as the new washer arrives, so that's a priority, as well as regular maintenance and some holiday deep cleaning. Makes for a nice set of 3, doesn't it?

Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! I'm not CUOP and didn't lurk from payroll this week, but I've just noticed there has been a Freddie Friday ! This special cat deserves to be celebrated. As for "Stir up Sunday", I remember you explaining that the last year and maybe the one before. So that's the priest signalling in coded words that you can start to make your Christmas pudding, right ?

trissie, congrats on a new washer. I'm not CUOP so I hope the new purchase doesn't mean you had more challenges this past week facing hostile appliance behaviour on top of everything else.

Definitely need to CUOP, at least a few days. Christmas will be here too soon. I feel fortunate we don't have to celebrate Thanksgiving this week, I would definitely be unready and that would shorten the time remaining for Christmas prep. Still no presents bought, except DS9's birthday present, and the lists are not satisfyingly full of ideas - and no ideas from siblings for DNieces and DNephews.
The week was busy at payroll, less boring than usual so that's good. At home MrNG had a 2-hour visio appt on Monday night, I had a dr appt on Tuesday night, and MrNG decided to go to a concert evening on Thursday night - we both need social life so I adivsed him to grab the opportunity and enjoy himself with a DF of his - although he felt guilty to let me deal with the kids, homework, dinner, cleanup and such, all alone. Bless him.

Frenchie, unfortunately, the washer was not a planned thing! It died yesterday on the first weekend load, leaving me with a load of wet dirty clothes stuck in a washer which would not open. And that was after DH was clever enough to figure out what was it that kept blowing the main house fuse (we have about 30 different circuits for different areas in the house, but it went straight to the main one). But I was able to find a store that would deliver today with the full service (carrying up the stairs and taking away the old one). I'm so NOT hauling a washer up the stairs, thank you very much! I'm with you at not being ready for the Christmas part of Christmas at all. DS14 has not idea what he wants (as always), the twins are getting a new laptop each (they need it for school, as they share one that was bought back for covid distance learning), and DBD hopefully has a list full of overpriced toys to select from. I don't know if we are doing anything for my nephews/niece, or if we are even visiting inlaws this year (DMIL is not doing well at all and doesn't handle visitors). But it will all fall together somehow, as it always does.

I finally got an email that the washer would be delivered between 5pm and 7pm. That means I will only get one load done today, but still beats not having a washer! Also, the robotic vacuum cleaner died - but that one is still covered by warranty (though it's annoying, we finally got into the habit of running it every night and we all know how it goes with habits once you stop doing them). Just my luck before Christmas!

That's super fast to get a new washer, trissie. It's worth the money to have them install it and take away the old one, imho.
FFB, I have done no Cmas shopping yet. But our family makes spreadsheets and lists, so it ends up not being too difficult. I'll probably order most of mine.

I'm up and have clothes on! It was a shorter night but I'm feeling awake, and I enjoyed walking while dh ran last week, so it's a repeat. I'm drinking my coffee and watching the sun rise through the trees at 7:25 a.m.
