Tackle Tuesday of Holiday Week

Post by lucylee »

Holiday Week for those of us in the states... our lucky neighbors to the north have already gotten past this one, right?

I did NOT launch very well for Monday. Dgrands arrived around 9:30 in the morning. Claimed to be starving. (This is because they know I am an easy mark for breakfast.) So... off to two different places for breakfast, after which I came in and piled up on the couch. Probably an hour later, DGD announced she was ready to go home, where their house cleaner was working. So I only had dgs for the rest of the day.
He helped me vacuum and mop the "guest" bath, then I went out and played a little bit of baseball with him. He hit the ball into the pasture and we realized it was past time that I should be trimming some branches and weeds that were blocking the gate into that part of the pasture. While doing that, my little chainsaw stopped. (I think maybe ddil's dad or the man who mows the yard can fix this for me.) By that time, dgs was ready to come inside and both of us just lay around the rest of the day. (He is more on my schedule that DGD!)
We went out for supper, came back home and watched basketball. He finally decided to go ahead and take a shower, and when he got finished, I took my shower and washed my hair. Did some floor exercises, Bible reading, and I'm in bed now. DGS, at last report, was drawing a map of Europe. LOL.(Yes, it is after 1:30 a.m.) He's coloring the countries with their flags. (I wish I had given him some melatonin. He keeps coming into my bedroom telling me what the flags look like.)

* Re: ABB therapy, Rose and LadyM -- I had to look it up. So far as I know, no one has mentioned this to ds/ddil for dgs, unless that was what the counseling was about a few years ago. He went to counseling after we discovered he had swallowed a magnet. This concerned ddil enough that she took him to the pediatrician, and I think the pediatrician suggested counseling. He went for several months, I think. Whatever they did in counseling, results are mixed. He has NOT completely stopped chewing on things, but I think that tendency is lessening for him.
He does go to speech therapy once a week (at school) and the main purpose of it is to help him learn to have conversations without blurting out things and interrupting others. This MAY be improving, but no miracles yet.
As far as what Rose said, I certainly agree that it seems your dd manages the NA world very well! By the time her wait is over, she may be doing so well that she doesn't want to try the therapy. But if she does want to try it, you'll know if it is helping or not after a few visits, I would think. And having the current counselor that she likes so well will help when the time comes.

(((Rose & Sweetie))) I hope you both feel lots better soon! What a day y'all had at the ER! (((BIG HUGS)))

Tonight, after I finally showered and felt better about myself, I did a Wmart list for pick-up tomorrow. I am still going to go to the smaller grocery store to get the few items that I want to be sure to check dates on (milk, chicken, eggs) and to get produce. DGD will be with me then and she'll probably fuss about the grocery store, but she's just going to have to deal with it. DS, DGS, and ddil's dad are going to eat raw oysters in nearby town. DGD will be staying with me till they get home and then she and DGS will swap again. He's trying to make sure he gets three nights here before Tgiving since she will get the last three nights of the week.

I just want to wave to everyone and give y'all a little encouragement for the second day of Thanksgiving week. I'll try to check-in again tomorrow -- I really need you ladies to keep me going. It seems like I am really sorta lackadaisical about all my holiday prep this year. Last year was the first year without dh, so I should be managing better this year, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm just as low-energy as ever.
Tomorrow is another day.

Good morning, Lucylee!
From reading your account of yesterday it was a mixture of doing the "necessaries", doing some fun thi gas with the DGrandkids, and raking time to relax. Time with kids cam be exhausting as well as fun, so you're wise the "charge your batteries ", definitely not lazy! :D And DGS and DGD are going to remember the times they spent with you - time snuggling on the couch together is never wasted!

I posted this on yesterday thread, as I hadn't noticed this thread  so I'll.copy it here:

Harriet, if your DSisil is a gardener, then, if such a thing (or its equivalent) exists where you are, then I would suggest a national garden gift card. These have a long shelf life, and can be used in almost any garden centre (so you're not tied to a chain). She could then get some she would really like for her garden, or put it towards a big purchase. And, of course, you can just slip it inside a.card, so no fuss or awkwardness! (I'm doing this for my DF PM, as she's been very good to me this year, giving me lifts to places when DH needed the car.) I don't want.to give her "stuff", esp as she's in the process of decluttering her house (4 or 5 generations have lived there, so you can imagine!), and she does love her garden.

Blessed, your construction sounds very exciting, but I think I would rather enjoy reading all about it rather than actually be on site!

My main achievements yesterday were to finish decluttering/ deep cleaning the bedroom, finally contact a very good plumber who changed our dripping kitchen tap, and have all the "extras" for the parish Christmas lunch delivered.

Thanks, Kitty! But they didn’t snuggle with me —Dgd had come to my bedroom and closed the door. She’s at that age. Wants to be alone sometimes. Dgs was in the recliner. He’s a lot like dh — if I say I’m sleepy, he says, “Go to sleep,” and turns off the light for me. If Dgd does NOT want to be alone, she needs lots of attention, LOL!

Thank you for starting us off today LucyLee!! We had our Thanksgiving in early October, well over a month ago.

Hi KittyKatt!

Today should be an interesting day here. I asked dh if he had any plans for today last night and he mentioned that he really needs to get his hair cut. He also mentioned going to a really small grocery store to look for some meat on sale. I've been in that store and it's more like a glorified deli with more space given to sandwiches and a deli counter that might be 10 feet long if I'm being generous. But we'll see what the day brings.

I need to empty the dishwasher.

Because I plan on doing the Christmas decorating starting either on Sunday or Tuesday of next week, I want to clear the island and the top of the dryer (cat carrier box lives there, but there seems to be a small pile of weird things on top of it. All stuff that has come out of the dryer at some point, like a thermal undershirt from last winter!) In other words, both of these spots seem to be little hot spots that aren't even smoldering any more because one spot in particular is months old!
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

I have purged more planners and got some info. sorted to use later.
Sigh trying not to be overwhelmed with that.
So I divided it into 4 piles to be done one per quarter or year LOL!
It takes as long as it takes. I want to put info. for prompts to write out &
put the prompts on 3 x 5" or 5x7" cards to file.
I have a jar of prompts on slips of paper to put in cards as well.

I have been up a while in the night so my head can clear out.
Leaves await my attn. come day light.

I am not going to deal with holiday decor till Dec.
Got the vacuuming done in Liv. room last evening.
Trash is out to the curb this morning.

OK I'm fully caffeinated 3 cups! ;)
I need to wash then dry my hair today.

Did my QT. listening to Sunday's sermon /
Pastor did not preach the associate pastor did a good job.

Morning….

Just call me Florence Nightingale. In the middle of the night, there was a large crash and sweetie fell when he got out of bed to use the bathroom. I found him in the corner of the room and his ear was bleeding. I have no idea what he hit it on and neither does he. For some reason he had left a pair of shoes by his nightstand and that is what he tripped on. He’s never done that before.

While attending to his ear, I noticed that the very edge of his ear was swollen and bruised. Probably from the fall that he took in the parking lot the other day.

Anyway, I cleaned it and patched him up and we went back to bed. Now he’s in the shower and once he gets his ear washed well I will attend to it again. I noticed he’s not very steady. That has me concerned, but there’s not much I can do about it at the moment.

Don’t know what the rest of my day will be like I’m just taking it one moment at a time we shall see.

Be back later

Good morning! Good to see lucylee considering her check-in a new start. (I hope by now, you're having a good sleep.) And if I'm doing my figuring right, you started your morning with us, Kittykatt. I've never heard of anything like that garden card here, but, boy, what a wonderful idea!

I imagine your DH will look spiffy, Cathy. My DC is right now in geography class taking a quiz on Canada. Nothing big -- just the provinces, major cities and rivers.

Nancy, I've meant to ask you about your planners (or maybe I already did and forgot). Is it just that you go through them quickly, or do you use multiple planners at once for different things?

Hi, blessed! So, what are you doing today besides cheering us on and not watching the workmen? :D

Oh, goodness, Rose! I hope he doesn't have any more trouble. I guess taking it moment by moment is the best thing you can do.

DH and DD did go out and get the groceries after dinner last night. What with the late start, we were unloading and putting things away fairly late. By the time we did that and watched the day's Jeopardy, it was bedtime. So no braving the crowds on Wednesday. Today, as I mentioned yesterday, DH will be at work late, so I will be starting a crockpot later. I was going to do it already, but it only needs to cook 4 hours. It's just about time to go get DC; when we get back, I think I will do some time in the playroom.

Have a great day, everybody!

((Ramblin')) how scary. Thank goodness it WAS loud, though, so that you could get there fast to help. I hope the blood is just from a scratch going down and the bruise already healing with no aftereffects except needing time. Yes, you are Florence Nightingale.

Kittykatt, actually a great idea for a gift certificate from a nursery or garden center. I'll be sure that when I ask dbil I question him about whether dsisil is considering any outdoor plantings or enjoys spring gardening at all these days. We don't have national garden cards here, unfortunately.

lucylee, I hope you got a start on the blockage around the gate before your chainsaw stopped. That sounds like such progress! I never get to do the outside stuff I see that needs my attention and am so ready for my restrictions to be lifted in that regard.

blessed, HRH loves to tell the old joke about handymen charging a lower price unless the owner comes to supervise, and then it costs the higher price, lol. But I'm sure you are a benign and pleasant presence!

Best wishes to ((those headed for grocery stores))! HRH made an online order here instead and I just got a ping on the phone saying it will arrive between noon and 2. He already has the door propped open. Looks like I will be baking an apple pie. My own fault, if I don't really want to... .. he was ready to get a purchased one and I started thinking about my recent pie experiments, so here we are, lol.

Today will end up divided between cards, cleaning and maybe some sewing if I can.
Last evening I got 95 percent of the addresses gathered properly for cards, with all supplies out on the card table. (The last 5 percent of that work always takes the longest.) Today I'll started addressing.
The master bathroom needs attention.
I'd like to get the last 3 blocks on the design wall sewn, but I'll admit it could wait. I don't want cards out and visible when anyone comes to see us for Tday. Ddolder's family leaves tomorrow for her in-law family and might very well come by before then. Dd27 and dsonil want to come by but don't know what day.

I have had bfast.
I've got one more set of prompts from a diff. planner written out to use for this quarter.
They are from a past planner on goals from Happy Planner that I can not get any more.
I have some for diff. topics, and use pages for notes from books & Bible study etc.
I have 4 main things I focused on last year one for each quarter.
1 Faith / Spiritual
2 Soul
3 Mind / learning new stuff
4 Health

I have stacks of planners and have been reusing the covers and discs. over the years.
They are like notebooks for me.

I have some hard bound covers seasonal focused at one point they are empty so will be putting the ones I want the
notes from and writing prompts in them. One more done and starting the next one.

I have various outer covers for them too. It's been my one splurge over the years.
