A toboggan is a simple sled used in snowy winter recreation. It is also a traditional form of cargo transport used by the Innu, Cree and Ojibwe of North America, sometimes part of a dog train.

It is used on snow to carry one or more people (often children) down a hill or other slope for recreation, or as a rescue sled. Designs vary from simple, traditional models to modern engineered composites. A toboggan differs from most sleds or sleighs in that it has no runners or skis (or only low ones) on the underside. The bottom of a toboggan rides directly on the snow. Some parks include designated toboggan hills where ordinary sleds are not allowed and which may include toboggan runs similar to bobsleigh courses.

Toboggans can vary depending on the climate and geographical region. Such examples are Tangalooma (Australia) where toboggans are made from Masonite boards and used for travelling down steep sand dunes at speeds up to 40 km/h (25 mph).

The term toboggan likely comes from an Algonquin language, though the exact one is not sure. It likely comes from the Mi'kmaq word tepaqan, meaning sled, or the Abenaki word dabôgan, meaning sled.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. Growing up I loved near a golf course, which, being in Dorset had some hilly areas. One hill in particular was excellent for sledging down - if you didn't have a sled or toboggan, you "borrowed" a large tray from your Mum. Latterly, I remember kids used to used empty compost bags to slide down the hill!

Today is the parish Christmas lunch, so I was up and out early. It's mild and not actually rain so I've hoovered the car, got a few last minute things, and now I'm waiting for the others to arrive so we can start setting up before church.

☀️Good morning, trissie, Kittykatt, LAnn, everyone!

I’ve never tobaganned and don’t plan to now. That wouldn’t be pretty.

Hi Lucylee! Growing up in Mobile, we were always told it was the wettest city in the US, which I found hard to believe as the NW always seemed so damp and we had plenty of dry weather. I guess it’s nice to be known for something lol. It’s also the original home of Mardi Gras. My yard last year got over a foot of real snow and we loved it. If we get anything, it’s usually sleet/ice and that’s no fun at all, so last year was a real treat.

I woke up so groggy, still in the middle of a very weird dream, which is probably why I woke up. Even my brain said this is too weird so get up. :P It’s wet and rainy today, listening to the weather and they say it will last several days. And I have to go with dh to a dr visit tomorrow.
For now I’m hungry so I’ll post my list and search for some sustenance.

Thank you for another interesting sport start, trissie!
Bama, I was awake around 5 a.m. and took a long time to go back to sleep, so I woke up quite late. I hope you found some sustenance!
I bet the parish lunch will go well, Kitty! Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Oh too bad about the cancelation, L Ann. I hope you enjoyed your walk.

We have sunshine! It's SO pretty out there with the sun on the snow! But chilly - a high of 20F (-6.7) this afternoon and a low tonight of 3F (-16C). It's 17F right now. Looking at the weather website, it looks like the cold weather is here to stay.

Last night, we watched Fable! I had forgotten that we were doing that; dh picked her up en route home from work, although dd27's house is not really en route, and brought her home. Right when we sat down for dinner, M came home from a "date" with a nice guy, and she wanted to talk to us about it. We offered her food, of course. . . So, once again, dh and I did not have dinner together. Dd27 came by around 8:30 to pick up Fable; we chatted until about 9:30. That was my evening. We are technically empty nesting, but sometimes the nest doesn't feel so empty. LOL!

A little whine: Including last night, this week includes social dinners 5/7 evenings. Only Monday and hopefully tomorrow will be just the 2 of us. Maybe I shouldn't complain, though. LOL! I guess it depends on one's perspective. Because dh works in the evenings after dinner clean up, I value time during dinner to chat and catch up with him. I will have the car ride to and from the gala tonight with just dh.

Today, I don't have to go in to payroll, but I'd like to finish the things I didn't finish earlier this week, like laundry and Mem. thank you cards. I also need to prep to share at a payroll seminar on zoom at 1. After the seminar, I'm going to work out with my personal trainer. Putting together a practice exam would be helpful; that will take some time, and I want to have it done before class tomorrow.

Next:
- some qt
- finish reclaiming the kitchen
- darks: fold and p/a

Later:
- make the bed
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- update lists
- Mem. thank you progress
- payroll: prep for seminar
- lunch
- 1 - 1:40 payroll: seminar
- 2-3 work out with personal trainer
- can I walk as well?
- payroll: make practice test
- payroll: know what is on the midterm test
- darks: fold and p/a
- towels w d f pa
- clean towels in bathrooms
- gas the car
- 6-10ish (including drive time) out to gala in big city with K, K's dh, S, and S's dh - JT can't join us this year
- duolingo
- update health apps

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - finally, moving down
- shopped online for winter loafers; I've bought the same pair 4-5x in the past every 2 years - but I'm not completely happy with it anymore; found a new shoe to try out
- email deletions + weather website - sunny! But cold.
- coffee
- messages with AC re: our trip next week
- message to ds + F re: Cmas gift ideas
