Enthusiastic Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Novelist Charles Kingsley on happiness:
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”
What lends enthusiasm to your life and how does it make you happy? Is is home? Being home, or taking care of home? family? hobbies (genealogy, lol, sewing? creative pursuits, like Nancy?) Writing? (again, Nancy) Exercise (sorry, no, but it has to be done, lol)

Please discuss - is the quote realistic?

I agree - wanting to learn, trying new things, being present is what I am enthusiastic about - There is a light that enthusiasm brings!

Good morning

I listened to a podcast yesterday that talked about how living in luxury can sometimes make it harder to appreciate the simple things. It’s the struggles that help us grow stronger—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I’m not enthusiastic about having problems, but I understand the point they were making.

We have a winter wonderland today with snow covering everything. Our big oak trees haven't dropped their leaves yet so they are weighted down with snow. There was about 2" of snow covering the Odessey that I had to remove before taking DD14 to school. The snow immediately melted when it hit the warmer hard surfaces like roads. The bridges were slushy but didn't feel slick. I forget how quiet it is when it snows. It is strange but wonderful.

I'm so envious, LadyM. I'd love a nice snowfall!

Honestly, some days I feel that I'm not enthusiastic about much - sign of depression? I an enthusiastic about genealogy but feel like I need an engaging project for myself. In a little less than two years I need to submit a renewal project to the Board for certification of genealogists - I've started but not continued several research/writing projects thinking each would be the one.

I'm not enthusiastic about going to my workouts - but I know I feel good after and I do feel engaged and working once I'm there and moving. The next few weeks are going to be one workout a week. Only one this week because I blew off Monday with the cold and sniffles, we're traveling next week so I only get there on Monday, and the following week we're still traveling on Monday so I miss Monday that week. Then for the two weeks after there's Christmas and New Years day on Thursday so I'm getting in one workout each week.

And I have donwannas about so much these days. Some days I'm stamping and nothing seems "right" and I'm so indecisive that I just put things away.

I did text my dermatologist about a refill of one of the hair growth meds. Have needed to do that for over a week now.

What a quiet bunch we are! Out being enthusiastic, lol?

Dcleaning lady is done, I need to have my brunch so I can be on the road to the workout in an hour.

I'm not enthusiastic about traveling but usually enjoy it once we're away. I think I dread the work that getting ready and getting away takes.

Whoops, just realized my workout is at three today, not two. It was changed because one of the usual trainers is out this week - it's her wedding we're going to tomorrow. So I'll eat and then have a bit more research time.

I was enthusiastic today about sleeping till 7:30 late for me!
Yesterday a book came early I was not expecting till next week!
Also after frustrating of not finding something locally I got over it and just ordered that on line win!
Simple things like doing some thing new last year saw the neighbor putting fuel in his rig with a gas can; I assumed from
the mower after the summer season so I did that yesterday!
Finishing an easy project to rev up my creative ideas like a simple draw string bag to use a gift.

-----
Story time: When the kids were younger and a still living at home & LH was alive ~
I'd made up an assortment of cookies for the holidays for when people came like the in laws.
I had them in the freezer in the cookie container... well LH and dson had found them and there
were only three and a half cookies left. LH was telling his parents they did not want cookies because of diets right?
When I asked. I thought what the heck. Then went down stairs to the basement freezer and discovered that was him
trying to not get caught! OMG!

So I've been trying to process this and not be mad any more; the cookies were irritable and they loved them is my
take away now! I'm sure the in laws laughed about it after wards. / Me not making cookies any more b/c everyone is
on low carb these days and diabetic or can't eat this or that.
-----
Another time a cookie exchange; my oven element went out the gals were all upset bc/ I bought mine
from a bakers they were great and my favs. spirits with the red jelly in the center of em. 12 doz.
one gal smoked and her's tasted like ash or the way smoke smells.

So I now do sweet breads not as often however.
-----
I've journaled
got dressed
Got food & fuel.
take meds.
Dishes from last nite await on this rainy day. X Done.

Nancy, I slept in today too. Forgot to set the alarm, and dh woke me up at 8:50! Once up, I hadn't remembered that dcleaning lady was coming so I had to get busy. I don't bake much anymore, either.

This was one of the rare days that I approved DS17 leaving home before he finished the homeschool assignments. They were loading bulls at sunrise to have them at the vet by 9am. He said that went smoothly with the bulls calm in the early morning hours. He is now putting out round bales and lick tubs to various pastures over a 20 mile range.

I made a quick trip to local $ store to buy a small bottle of dish soap. I like to refill that size of bottle from a large size bottle that ensures we always have a supply on hand.

Note to self....yes, the hot peppers grown this summer are really HOT. Why do I keep trying them and expecting different results?

I've been texting with DGS29 this morning. He sent me a picture of him one year ago and then a picture of him this morning. It is astonishing the difference. He doesn't know how much he weighed last year but it has to be over 100 lbs difference.

I've been texting with DS51 this morning about Japanese toilets. Why? Just because we can. One of those spontaneous goofy conversations. lol

Today was the church parish Christmas lunch. There were 25 of us, so a big undertaking, but I had a wonderful team of ladies to help, so together we make quick work of the setting up beforehand and the clearing up afterwards. One lady is very talented at making table decorations, and she also decorated the front with holly and fairy lights. The food was mostly a buffet with cakes to follow. We also had mini mince pies, and chocolates in dishes on the table.

I think after such a busy social day, I'm just about peopled-out. DH has gone to the men's group pie and pint at a local brewery , so I have a chance to recharge. I have a couple of little jobs I would like to do this evening, but nothing very ambitious! :D
