Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games, with its introduction occurring at the 1908 Olympics in London. The Olympic disciplines are men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance; the four individual disciplines are also combined into a team event, which was first included in the Winter Olympics in 2014. The non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating, Theater on Ice, and four skating. From intermediate through senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (the short program and the free skate), which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.

Figure skaters compete at various levels from beginner up to the Olympic level (senior) at local, regional, sectional, national, and international competitions. The International Skating Union (ISU) regulates international figure skating judging and competitions. These include the Winter Olympics, the World Championships, the World Junior Championships, the European Championships, the Four Continents Championships, the Grand Prix series (senior and junior), and the ISU Challenger Series.

The sport is also associated with show business. Major competitions generally conclude with exhibition galas, in which the top skaters from each discipline perform non-competitive programs. Many skaters, both during and after their competitive careers, also skate in ice shows, which run during the competitive season and the off-season.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off.

LucyLee, if you're ok with crackers containing wheat then I would guess you're probably ok. Onions bother many people, so it's probably simplest just not to eat them if you can avoid it. Ice cream and fried chicken - hmmm I would suggest checking the ingredients list *very* carefully. If it's a "good" quality
ice cream made from cream and milk, eggs, sugar, a *natural* flavouring and nothing else then it would suggest *maybe* a possible lactose intolerance, which can cause the symptoms you mention. Digestive enzymes containing lactase *might* help here.

However , if the ice cream is mostly a " non dairy fat" product with various things with long names in the ingredients, then my guess is you're probably intolerant to one or more of the many additives that have been added (think emulsifiers, flavouring, malto-dextrin , colourings, in fact anything you wouldn't find in your pantry at home). Artificial sweeteners are also common culprits for tummy issues - I can't eat or drink anything with artificial sweeteners.. The same goes for the chicken! If the ingredients list sounds more like a chemistry experiment than a normal home cooked recipe, with items you would find in a normal kitchen, then it might be worth avoiding them and see if your symptoms improve.

If you can, I would definitely recommend reading "Ultraprocessed People" by Chris Van Tulleken about the problems with Ultraprocessed food. He is a qualified medical doctor, with a twin brother who is also a doctor!

Enjoy your lasagne, Dogged!

Today I need to be up and OTD early,. although not as early as yesterday! Then, I should hopefully be home for the rest of the day. The forecast is for rain, so maybe I can get some Christmas prep done.

Good morning, lovies!

hi kittykatt! I love Chris Van Tulleken! Operation Ouch was a favourite for my kids at one time :-)

For once, I actually feel rested after having slept for 6 hours, so I believe I will conquer the world today - or at least my house, anyway :-) Working from home, and I plan on getting all loose ends from this week tied and continuing with my research project which like really needs to be finished before year end else I will have to admit that in my annual closing report (I do regular reports on my activity which and details of it go in public reporting). I mean... I technically have till mid-January if I back-date it (that's the earliest the Board will review it), but no longer till that. But it's coming along, so I feel somewhat confident that it will be done.
Other than that, it's cleaning, decorating, baking and organizing! Got a good start on selecting Christmas photos last night, but I need to finalize that today. The kids were very much not enthusiastic, but there are some good shots.

Thank you for starting us off, trissie. A Work From Home day is a great way to launch your weekend.

Kittykatt, this is my Errands Day too. I just have three main stops: Canadian Tire to pick up that power bar, library to drop off book and bank to deposit my OAS cheque. Any other stops are Nice To Haves and will play it by ear.

I am showered and have the lasagna in the fridge and the small slow cooker working on a tomato vegetable sauce to go with it, and with that I'm off to bed. See you later.

Cheering you on with the house and your research project, Trissie! I really need to do some decorating too. I've noticed most of the other neighbours have their outdoor decorations up. I'm waiting for a day when it's mild and not raining to stand on the steps wind the lights round the canopy over the front door, bit I guess I could put the wreath on the front door whatever the weather, as that takes just a few minutes .

Sleep well, Dogged! I hope your errands go smoothly and the weather cooperates I'm

Today is dry so far, and the temperature.rose.overmigjt to 5C, but there was still ice on the windscreen cover, so I'm glad I spend those few.minutes yesterday putting it on. DH isn't feeling great so is calling in sick today. I e suggested he.kigjt.like.to work on our Christmas newsletter this morning! When I get home other plans for the day include possibly cutting Fred's nails, if I can get the timings right. We have a vet recommended plan to avoid me getting savaged again!

Back home again, and having lunch with DH. It's now wet and windy, so I'm very glad I don't have to go out again. DH has actually done his part of the newsletter :D and I e done the first draft of my part - I'll think it through over lunch and then send it to him.wotj a few photos, so he can out it all together, and that's the newsletter done.

Freddie has had his vet- approved capsule of Gabapentin, which will hopefully make trimming this nails less traumatic for all.of us. I need to wait another hour for it to take full effect.

I also need to do something for Christmas. Probably not outside decorating (apart from maybe the wreath on the front door?). Maybe some present wrapping?
