Satiated Saturday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

satiated; satiating
: to satisfy (a need, a desire, etc.) fully or to excess
From Merriam Webster online dictionary https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/satiate
Did you know?
The time has come at last to share the “sad” history of satiate, by which we mean that the two words—sad and satiate—are etymologically connected, not that the details will have you reaching for the tissue box. Both satiate and sad are related to the Latin adjective satis, meaning “enough.” When we say our desire, thirst, curiosity, etc. has been satiated, we mean it has been fully satisfied (satisfy being another satis descendant)—in other words, we’ve had enough. Satiate and sate (believed to be an alteration and shortening of satiate) sometimes imply simple contentment, but often suggest that having enough has dulled interest or desire for more, as in “Years of globe-trotting satiated their interest in travel.” Sad, which in its earliest use could describe someone who was weary or tired of something, traces back to the Old English adjective sæd, meaning “sated,” and sæd shares an ancient root with Latin satis.

I feel totally depressing, as in "I've had enough this year." Enough eating, drinking, visiting, people, holidays. We still have dh's birthday, which has morphed into two events now, and then New Years. Nothing NYE, but a brunch get together the next day.

We invited neighbors for dh's birthday on the Monday evening because he insisted he would support his bowling team by being there on Tuesday p.m., on his birthday. Now we're going out to eat that evening for his birthday, which will be nice. Only asking A and V to go along. He asked about another couple and I vetoed it. The get together here at our house will use a smoked brisket and/or smoked turkey which was sent to us. I need to figure out that evening...might make it snacks/charcuterie/brisket or turkey sliders.

I'm wondering how to prevent this burnout next year. We went to NYC immediately before Hanukkah this year - and that exacerbated it. We came home to Hanukkah. I also should have skipped the webinar on the evening after we got home. And I'm looking ahead, next year Hanukkah begins 5 December so there's not overlap between the two sets of events. Christmas even was on Wednesday p.m. after the last night of Hanukkah on the 21st.

I'm sorry to be such a downer but I feel like Scrooge this year!

Dh is going to the river for a boat ride with A and V today. I wish I felt more like going.

Twins we all need down time, it's needed to schedule it in the calendar.
I'm thinking on my weekly review for this year and need to put some notes in my Holiday planner about this year so when
I use it next year I'll remember what we did that worked.

Winds woke me up at three - ish this morning.
Foot is sore and a bit puffy so I"LL be taking care with it today.
I do need to do my sheets & vac. the bed rooms I"LL do that in shorter segments of time.

QT happened & most of my journaling.
A bit of a stuffy head effected me in the last 24 hrs.

No service at our church this weekend they always take this week off so the
leadership can have a much needed break. I appreciate the wisdom in that.

Today's Wins!
Put 1st laundry basket of decorations is at the top of the steps to go downstairs.
I have clean sheets on the bed & the ones I took off are in the washer now.
I moved the chair DD & I took downstairs it's in a better spot, I hope now.
Next load has been sorted and is ready to go in the washer later.
-----
Had my bfast
Bread dough is rising now.
Next time I"m switching clothes I need to remember to bring up my shrimp from the basement freezer.
I can take the red & white & black sweater down stairs when I go as well..

Morning…
After I retired my friends who were still working ask my advice abt it. I told them that they need to find what they were passionate abt and start doing it.

Remember your husband spent years in an office managing all that was happening. He was a “ somebody” and now he is adjusting to just being an ordinary guy. Hes transferring managing his people at work to “ manage” you.

I know there is an association for people who have retired that mentor up and coming people still working but don’t remember what its call. He just lost at the moment… something new to him so he is filling that with friends because he’s used to being surrounded by people at work and now he’s not.

My Cmas Eve with the kids was great. Cmas Day Sweetie and I went through his filing cabinet and I ditch and shreds tons of files that we no longer needed

Yesterday I took down my tree and boxed all my decorations. They are in the garage waiting for my son to help me put them away

My laundry is done … did it Cmas Day😆….and I need to set Einstein off. The rest of my home is in good shape.

Waving to y’all… see ya later

I'm just wandering around with this post.

said lucylee last evening, lol. I'm going to have to remember that.

So, lucylee, you traded the Waffle House Christmas idea for a Cracker Barrel Christmas? Hope it was fun.

Mystery, you were quite the good hostess this year, I imagine, because those activities sound lovely for visiting household guests during holidays.

Nancy, I hope you get over these aches and pains!

I think it was also lucylee who said she couldn't get over how much time she'd put into calendar shopping online.
I could raise my hand to agree  but it would be planner shopping.
All ideas I've found to be good ones for planners have been unceremoniously discontinued by the various publishers, I think.
Kittykatt had encouraged that it wasn't such a bad idea to make a cover for one's own notebook to customize!

Retirement chat - I realize I've been blessed and our household avoided some hard retirement shock. HRH had a sort of "step down" series of changes that he himself orchestrated into retirement. He went from 200-plus people saying "yes, sir", to consulting, which meant being the scary guy ("somebody" as Ramblin' said) who came in and brought places up to standard for inspection, still getting those worried looks, lol. Then just did less consulting each year until he more gracefully left that world. Full disclosure, of course, the trade-off was less of a benefits package than he might have had if he had toughed the management world out longer. I think he would have been ... shall we say ... satiated, though :D (learn something new every day!)

I remember hoping along with Harmony that her dh could do a step-down into smaller projects, maybe more craftsman type things - small scale but impressive.
Very obvious for a carpenter, but might be applicable for other occupations?

Nancy and Ramblin' are putting away holiday decor, etc.
I did find out yesterday that a cousin I thought was going to visit probably won't. But still, the place looks quite nice this way, and if someone does visit it would be pleasant to entertain with the decor around us. HRH says just keep the tree and decorate for all the holidays, lol, but no.

Good morning

i love coming here and reading your posts. What a wide variety of life experiences we have as we do life together virtually in the SHE village.

It’s a peaceful day with bright sunshine and temperatures in the high 70s. The gorgeous weather makes it hard to stay indoors, so I keep finding myself outside every hour, enjoying nature in my summer clothes. I’m trying not to think about what tomorrow’s weather will bring. LA-LA-LA-LA....I don't want to think about the drastic change.

Planner chatter – I’ve spent far more enjoyable time than I’d care to admit picking out the “perfect” paper planner for 2026. I love everything about my final choice. HOWEVER, the moment I had it in my hands, my brain instantly switched into creative mode, dreaming up ways to recreate it with digital tools. I’m feeling both frustrated and fascinated.
I know myself well enough to realize that I’ll reach for my paper planner when I start feeling overwhelmed. I remind myself that finding the perfect one wasn’t a waste of effort—it’s my go-to in tough moments when I need that pen-and-paper comfort. On the flip side, when I’m feeling creative and sticking solely to digital planning and journaling, it’s a good sign that I’m not overwhelmed.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.
When life gets difficult, learn to sing & dance in the rain.

I ended up going back to bed after dh had his coffee. By the time he joined me, I had already put my book down and snuggled under the duvet,
I was asleep shortly after that. Dh got up a couple of times, including one time to eat a little something. While I was reading posts a few minutes ago, I was also having a little something to eat. I had a small dish of leftover potatoes from the 25th.

I think dh and I are both "over" all of the Christmas treats. My brother sent us a basket of treats and most of them were dark chocolate, which I don't like and nuts. There were a few things that I put aside for me. Then on Christmas Eve dh gave me a lot of treats. Now there is one end of our island that is covered in treats. We are satiated. Neither one of us is reaching for anything. I think I'll take the unopened things to a local food bank next week when they reopen. Plus the fridge is full.

To top it all off, and to give me a night off from cooking, dh has suggested Indian food tonight. I am already thinking about the Aloo Gobi, the Pakora and the Samosas. Plus the garlic Naan bread and the Tandoori chicken. Dh is either going to have the coconut shrimp or one of their spicy dishes.

I think I'll take down the decor and the tree next weekend. None of the cats have touched it, but one of them is frequently sleeping under it.

As far as the storm event that was supposed to happen yesterday/last night... we have less than an inch of snow where we are. My brother says he has 5 foot high piles of shoveled snow along the sides of his driveway. He is at least an hour northwest of us. My MIL mentioned that her snow piles are as high as her car.

Now it's afternoon.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

It's nice out today and I walked the dog a little extra this a.m. We went to the top of the hill, but not back down the other side, where we have to climb a bigger hill back up.
