Wallflowers (Erysimum), are commonly grown as a spring bedding plant. Most wallflowers are biennial, and are grown from seed in late spring and then planted out in autumn (you can buy bare-root wallflower plants for autumn planting). They flower the following March, offering a splash of colour when there's little else in bloom. They are often grown as part of spring bedding schemes , as they combine beautifully with spring bulbs, such as tulips, and also with forget me nots

Most wallflower garden cultivars (e.g. Erysimum 'Chelsea Jacket') are derived from E. cheiri (often placed in Cheiranthus), from southern Europe. They are often attacked by fungal and bacterial disease, so they are best grown as biennials and discarded after flowering. They are also susceptible to clubroot, a disease of Brassicaceae. Growth is best in dry soils with very good drainage, and they are often grown successfully in loose wall mortar. There is a wide range of flower color in the warm spectrum, including white, yellow, orange, red, pink, maroon, purple and russet. The flowers, appearing in spring, usually have a strong, pleasant fragrance.

The cultivar 'Bowles's Mauve' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It can become a bushy evergreen perennial in milder locations. It is strongly scented and attractive to bees.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Wednesday!

Helia, I'm sure that as to get used to this session without a class, you'll find your "sweet spot" with activities v rest, and discover.ways to spend your time that are both productive and enjoyable. Ive had a suspicion about the washing machine for a while, so, in idle moments Ive been doing a little research to find out what's available - prices, features, reliability availability etc. Also, the January sales are still on, when retailers like to shift their stock to make way for new "exciting" products. From my research with the old washing machine, it's reached the stage where it could fail catastrophically at any time. ( Or it might go on for a few more weeks or even a couple of months). But it also now has a risk of over heating, so, although we'll probably carry on using it for a few more loads, for safety 's sake, we'll only use it when someone is around to supervise.

Bama, I don't understand this obsession with WiFi connected appliances either.. I've also read that unless you go in and change their passwords (which most people don't!) then they could, potentially, be a security risk. (I have a mental picture of all the appliances ganging up together and declaring a revolution! )

Today DH is going to the office, and I think much of my morning is going to be taken up with supervising the delivery and installation of DF CW's new fridge freezer (all her appliances are integrated rather than free standing,.which adds another later of complexity). I asked her for a list of what she's paid for in this delivery process, as "delivery" *can* mean just a quick drop off, but she's paid for the full works - take away old appliance (I need to remember to take the bag out that she's left in there with just a few last minute items), bringing in the new appliance, unpack, set it up, including the "integrated" bit, and take the wrapping.away.

CW has also asked them to look at her washing machine, as it's doing a very similar thing to ours. It could, of course, have just got itself out of level, so the feet need adjusting to make it stand level again, but going by its age, and the ominous knocking sounds, I have a suspicion that the bearings may be worn on that machine, too. However, they will need to talk to CW directly.about that - I shall tell them (truthfully) that I can't authorise repairs on it.

So, I need to be showered and dressed and presentable by 8.30 at the latest today. I think I'll see if I can quickly tidy upstairs this morning, and then start on my kitchen. It's at the front of the house, so I can't miss the delivery guys. I can also work on my front garden as well (weather permitting!) The delivery.slot is 9 am -1 pm, but they're *supposed* to ring me 30 minutes before they arrive. We'll see!

Good morning, Kittykatt. Thank you for the educational start. I never knew that there was a flower that was actually called "wallflower". I thought that was just a term for introverted people.
When I see wifi integrated appliances, I picture myself unable to eat because the fridge won't let the door open until I log into the internet. Not how I want to live, LOL.

I am finally making use of the vegetable and pork scraps from the freezer. I rolled them into cheesecloth with the bones of the rotisserie chicken, filled the slow cooker with water and chicken soup powder, and turned it on to make soup stock overnight. Tomorrow I will lift out the cheesecloth lump, put in as many vegetables as I can fit, and make soup.

For now, I'm heading to bed. I'll clean up after Germane and feed her again before. She's been eating really well today, just like a normal dog. She eat the two teaspoons of dog food I put in her plate and then lick her plate around and stop and look at me meaningfully, so I give her a couple more teaspoons, and a couple more. I hope that she keeps liking Go! I'll be happy to stock up on it, if she will keep eating it.

Good morning, kittykatt. I hope all goes well with your neighbor’s delivery and setup. I’ve heard of people starting their oven while in church. Seems like the food would be dry by then. I’d worry about some mishap and me not there to do anything about it.

Soup sounds good, Dogged. I’ve watched a woman make a tea from food scraps (like strawberry tops, carrot peels, etc) add hot water and drink it. Its resourceful. I don’t know how much flavor it would have. The robots are coming in all shapes and forms, they can wash and fold all my clothes and get rid of my moldy foods forgotten in the back corners of the refrigerator for me.

Just watching tv until I get sleepy. See yall later today.

Thanks, Kitty. I think you're right. After all the busyness of the holiday season, this "extreme unscheduledness" (for me) is taking some time for me to get used to. LOL at the pic of the appliances revolting! After the night our dw caught on fire and we called the fire department, we have a policy not to run any appliance unless someone is at home and awake - so wi-fi control wouldn't add anything to that. Unless it could tell us the appliance was on fire?
We are weather twins, kitkat. Our temps will be dropping through the day as well. Our balmy interlude is over.
Is it time for another nonfiction book from the library, L Ann?
Fresh soup stock sounds resourceful and tasty, Doggedly. Glad Germane is eating!

Last night, we made yummy pork chops with lemon and capers for ourselves + M. We had 2 leftover so we packaged them up and froze them for another day. We did meet MZ for coffee/ tea. It was a quick meet up; we were done around 9:35 pm.

Today: I'm meeting the girls at the gym in about an hour. I'll jog there and try to swim a couple laps. I have a payroll phone call with the director at 3:20 pm. Other than that, the day is mine to use to catch up on things: snail mail bills, fold and put away sheets, get clean sheets on guest beds, a trip to the bank (maybe), etc. And spend some time writing - I want to get back to that. For dinner tonight, I'll make lentil curry soup, which we'll eat over rice, with some roasted butternut squash.

Right now, I'm up late after finishing a jigsaw sudoku puzzle. I'm working on coffee and getting set up here with you all! :D

Next:
- back exercises
- dress to jog
- some qt

Later:
- reclaim kitchen
- gather stuff for swimming + s2s
- ~ 10? go to gym -- jog, elliptical (?), swim, hot tub
- s2s at gym (very nice showers there!)
- lunch
- pay snail mail bills 1 2 3
- make bed
- make guest beds 1 2 3
- bank trip
- email ML
- write 1 hour
- payroll: email reply to LH
- 3:20 payroll: phone call with director
- declutter mom's knick knacks?
- other decluttering?
- dinner: lentil soup, rice, roasted butternut squash
- after dinner clean up
- bins back to the house
- update health apps: WW, MFP, Finch
- duolingo
- read for fun
- restart knitting project?

TaDas!

Morning all. I think I'm just going to say good morning to everyone and figure out my day. Sometimes or maybe more often my brain just doesn't have willpower to come up with individual responses. I will over time.

I slept till pretty much 530. Think I saw dh get up. And was out again. Good . Except now I'm not awake yet. I almost have the day to myself. H is coming at 10. Then I have to go help mom. She goes to the care home for activities. But somehow with the transition and the out patient status they don't have a way to help with bathroom needs? Family needs to go in during her time and care for her once. A little confusing. Union stuff i think. But she thrives there. She loves it. And it gets her out of the hospital bed. Only trouble is dad is worried it's too much and causing pain? I don't know...

Anyway those 2 things on my schedule and then nothing planned. I spent my last day off shampooing rug the whole day. And I think I'm going to call it whatever I want to get done and some down time. I'm exceptionally tired lately again.
