The snapdragon (Antirrhinum) is a flowering plant with distinctive, dragon-shaped blooms. Or maybe the jaws of a wolf - in French they are nicknamed gueule de loup (jaws of a wolf).

Interesting facts about snapdragons :
They “snap”: If you gently squeeze the sides of a snapdragon flower, it opens and closes like a mouth—hence the name snapdragon.
They are edible… but not tasty: The flowers are technically edible, though they’re bland and mostly used for decoration rather than flavor.
They have a bee-friendly design: Only strong pollinators like bees can force the flower open, which helps ensure effective pollination.
When the flowers fade and form seed pods, they look uncannily like tiny skulls

Good morning, FFB, and thank you for starting us off. Snapdragons are so pretty, aren't they? I used to love "snapping" the flowers as a child. I hope your busy Saturday morning goes well.

L.Ann, that's a lot of visitors to your bird feeder! I'm sure they're very grateful for the food in this cold weather.

Helia, the boards were reasonably stable for me, yesterday, I think there was only one time I couldn't get on? Maybe because of the time difference? I mostly use my phone for posting, but I don't see that would make any difference! :D

Gma, how lovely that forget me nots were your DMum's favourite flower. I hope you're successful with sowing the seed. They certainly grow like "weeds' over here! I just shake the plants when I take them out after they.go over, and let them do their own thing. But, your climate is a lot colder in winter, so they might have additional needs where you are!

Today, DH has said he wants to tackle the bottom of his wardrobe. Whether this will actually take place, IDK, but I can at least offer encouragement and "tools" to help him! I need to send the email out for parish lunch, and also print off two copies of the menu -one for church and one for DF E, so I can show it to her when I visit her . I also need to work on the house insurance (if I'm going to speak to anyone that needs to happen this morning as the offices close at midday) , and, weather permitting, some time in my garden and a walk would both be good. We're going to visit DFs C and R this evening for a meal, so I need to check if C needs us to being anything.

I think I'll start by composing the email,. attaching the menu and getting it all ready to send a bit later (It's still early here, I don't like to send things too early on a Saturday, as many people have their email linked to their phone, and I don't want to wake anyone !!)

kittykatt I hope your DH does work on his wardrobe. Also if I don't 'see' you till then, I hope you have an enjoyable evening.

L.Ann I had difficulty logging in yesterday, I wanted to check my weekly lists yesterday night and couldn't. I'm curious about the "MLK activity", I suppose it's kid-friendly things to learn about MLK?

The morning was sunny, now it's more grey clouds. DS7 is sick, fever and coughing, nothing serious it seems. He stayed home and I went with DS10 to his athletics practice, then walked in the neighbouring woods for a long hour in the sun, very enjoyable, before stretching, reading a chapter of my book, and it was time to drive him back home. We had lunch, then I sat by the fire to read, DS10 is playing a kind of Minecraft for Linux, and DS7 was bored and finally fell asleepon the couch. MrNG is finishing the first draft of his internship report, to hand over tomorrow. He said he would take the boys for some table tennis at the nearby playground. It's almost 4pm and I intended to do some house cleaning...

TADAs
picked grocery order at 8.30
quick grocery shopping, for produce I want to choose myself
bought stamps
collected a parcel
drove home, groceries put away with MrNG's help
drove DS10 to athletics
walked more than an hour in the sun
back home, made quick lunch, served, cleaned up with MrNG's help
quiet time reading near the pellet stove 8-)
also a lol in and out on rack near the stove

TODOs
what part of the house needs cleaning most badly-> do it
another lol in ?
some admin stuff I postponed
some food prep for the week ?
later
pick a movie for family movie night
dinner is store-bough pizzas and some green salad, and a movie
probably other things

So glad to be able to get here easily this morning! Thank you Harriet and Twins and whoever else worked on it. It looks like the other forum is not up, so maybe it's down for good now. Maybe aflyer will come join us here? And anybody else who was hanging out over there?
Kitty, I'm glad you were able to get here without too much trouble yesterday. Not sure what was happening, but it sounded like several of us stateside had issues getting here. Did dh tackle the bottom of his wardrobe?
FFB, Snapdragons were a favorite flower of mine as a small child. I think they hooked my imagination; I could "see" the dragon head and could make the "mouth" open and close. I hope DS7 feels better soon. The walk in the woods sounds lovely!
Did you read your book during DD33's bb L Ann? Or was it a game so you watched? I'm very much enjoying my bird feeder, and it makes me think of you.

Dh discovered why the birds ignored our feeder yesterday - the seed was somehow blocked up. It wouldn't come out. He set it right, and there's been regular traffic so far this morning, mostly house finches who are also quite noisy. There's a background "beeping" sound in our living room as the finches are constantly talking/ arguing with each other. A blue jay decided to eat the seed on the ground; we saw him sweep down and could hear his calls. A small woodpecker stopped by, but dh and I are not in agreement if it was a downy woodpecker OR a yellow bellied sapsucker. Or maybe a hairy woodpecker? A chickadee or two has stopped by and a junco is checking it out from the nearby tree. The cafe' is open for business! Seeing the birds at the bird feeder makes me very happy! I can see it from where I'm sitting in the living room! And we can hear the steady chatter as well.

I'm pondering the idea of a squirrel house with a camera (inspired by L Ann) to put in a nearby tree. I'd like to make it a flying squirrel house, to kind of apologize to/ do penance for (not really. . . :) ) for the 8+ flying squirrels who were living in our attic and have now been killed.

Today: NOTHING is on my calendar -- again! Whee!! I'd like to get in a good jog; I'm going to try to do it outside. Temps are falling throughout the day so earlier is better. This afternoon, I'll start working on NY cards and making the guest beds. Some decluttering in the MBR would be good too. Dinner will be leftovers of some sort, maybe paella? I need to make a quick trip to WF; I'm out of fresh blueberries.

Next:
- back exercises
- dress to jog
- make a list for WF- fresh fruits and veggies

Later:
- go jog
- stop by WF en route home
- put away WF items
- lunch
- some qt
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
- put away sheets I folded last night
- make sure kitchen is clean
- make up 2 guest beds upstairs
- towel laundry: fold and p/a
- spend time writing
- NY cards progress: 10 - 20 ready for the mail (anyone want one? I've got Bama on the list!)
- dinner: paella, sauteed baby bok choy + garlic
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update health apps: MFP, WW, Finch
- read fun book (fiction)
- maybe, restart knitting project
- maybe, work on MBR decluttering

TaDas!
- up; weighed self-- very high  Hoping it was restaurant food last night (salt)
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- looked up various Michigan woodpecker species; dh and I can't agree -- but not the most important thing LOL!

I stay in the car and read, helian. It is just practice. The squirrel house sounds like fun. The MLK activity is one the art garden does yearly. They will have an art exhibit by an African American artist in the small museum. Then the artist will be there facilitating a community art project. Sometimes it includes MLK quotes and sometimes it doesn’t. This year’s artist is a fabric artist and the project involves making flowers from felted fabric I think. Little Bit is pretty good at looking at a small amount of art. I think she will like how bright and colorful this woman’s art work is.

Good morning / good afternoon, L.Ann, FFB and Helia!

L.Ann, I hope DD enjoys her basketball. The MLK activity sounds very interesting.

FFB, I hope DS7 feels better soon. Thank you for the good wishes for this evening -I'm looking forward to it as C and R are a lovely couple. I'm glad you were able to have a nice walk today and spend some time reading. DH has decided he's going to do his wardrobe tomorrow. It may happen, but I'm very familiar with the saying "tomorrow never comes!"

Enjoy your free day, Helia. Your bird feeder sounds very popular too! DH made very yummy bacon sandwiches for lunch, so I won't nag remind him about his wardrobe, so long as he does get to it tomorrow! :D

I haven't done much outside today, as we had very heavy rain this morning (despite the forecast being "dry with sunny spells" ). However, the new washing machine was delivered during a dry spell.:D It's now up and running with its first load- very quietly. :D There was a slight problem with one of the adjacent cupboard doors, as it's slightly deeper than the old one, but this gives a splendid opportunity to redesign that cupboard, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time! The contents are all crated, and I've already done a quick declutter. I'm sure there will be more to go!

Jude has spent a long time on my lap (she is very sensitive to any change, and, of course, the new machine makes a different (and thankfully quieter!) sound to the old one. Freddie has inspected it and is unimpressed as there is no food, and Matilda doesn't care! I'm.jist having a cup of tea with DH, then I'll declutter and clean a kitchen cupboard.
