Re: There's Always Hockey on Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Ice hockey originated in Canada in the early 19th century, although the word 'hockey' derives from an old French word, “hocquet”, meaning “stick”. Around 1860, the ball (initially used in the sport) was replaced by a disk, and in 1879, two students from McGill University set down the first rules for the new game.
The first recognized team, the McGill University Hockey Club, was founded in 1880 when ice hockey became Canada's national sport and spread throughout the country. In 1892, the Canadian Governor General established the Stanley Cup, which was first won by a team representing the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association.
In the 1890s, the sport expanded south of the Canadian border to the United States, with the first documented game in 1895 between Johns Hopkins and Yale universities. Ice hockey arrived in Europe shortly after, and the sport made its Olympic debut at the Summer Games in Antwerp in 1920.
Men's ice hockey has featured at the Winter Olympics since the 1924 Games in Chamonix, while women's ice hockey made its official debut in 1998 in Nagano. Given the history of the sport, it is no surprise that Canada dominated the early tournaments. However, in 1956 and until its break-up, the Soviet Union became the team to beat, with its supremacy interrupted by the USA in 1960 at Squaw Valley and in 1980 at Lake Placid, with the latter famously known as “The Miracle on Ice.” Since the mid-1990s, Sweden and the Czech Republic have joined the club of Olympic champions, while Canada has triumphed in three of the last six editions of the Olympics.

Re: There's Always Hockey on Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Already lost a post.
Not sure where to post so I'll put this in both places.
trissie, dh says that the Czech Republic has great ice hockey players! Hope payroll is going well.
Kitty, I now think of table tennis as a solidly Asian sport. Hope you had a good morning at church. Any lunch get togethers afterward?
We got about 4 more inches of snow yesterday, but the temps were quite mild. Right now, it is about 23F with windchill of 11F. And it's rather windy out there. It looks like temps are expected to drop steadily until Saturday morning when they'll be about -8F (-22.2C) - and -16 F with windchill. Then, it will warm up to 13F on Sunday and we'll get 4 inches of snow. Looks like the coldest point will be a windchill of -20F (-28.9C) tomorrow morning. I wonder if schools will be closed?
Dh is out running in the wind and blowing snow. I hope he's warm enough.
Last night, after dinner, AC and I got coffee at a nearby Yemeni coffee shop. There are several in our small city and they're very popular. Then, I tried to pick up Fable to bring her to our house, but she refused to get in my car. She ended up playing and tackling her leash instead.
For a long time. I finally called dh to ask for help, and he was able to get her into his car. At home, I brought back the garbage and recycling bins, brought in the mail, and fetched more firewood. I did read more in my book next to a nice warm fire in the fireplace with a cup of hot cinnamon tea, one of the activities I love to do in the winter!
Today, I think I'm going to the gym twice: this morning with dd30 and then at 2 for my weekly work out with AS. I'll keep my morning work out light, maybe walking on the track and then trying to swim a few laps. Other things to do: NY cards progress, finish laundry, work on writing, make those guest beds, and decluttering.

make second cup of coffee (headache)

Re: There's Always Hockey on Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, my fellow SHEs, comrades in arms against disorder and dirt! I am happy to be back in a universe that makes sense after a night of shivering under a mountain of covers that would require an archeologist to excavate me. One of those layers was a heavy fleece throw with heating wires. When I woke up at five, I should have been roasting and sweaty, but I had just finally reached the point of being warm enough. I have never reacted to flu or COVID vaccinations before, but the pharmacist had warned me that I was getting the seniors' dose of the flu one, so I'm likely to get a stronger reaction. I'm feeling more normal, but it still feels like a participation trophy kind of day. On the bright side, it's only Thursday, so I can put off laundry for another day and still get it done before the weekend.
Thank you for starting us off, trissie and Kittykatt.
trissie, I hope that payroll is not too stressful after yesterday.
Kittykatt, I hope that your busy morning is going well.
You are much colder than we are, helia. It's close to freezing here, with wind chill above -10 C. I guess I'm weather buddies with L.Ann this time.
Lauralind, it's great to hear that your dmother has settled in well in the care home. Setting up a guest book so that you can all see who's been is a great idea.
Gma, it's good to hear that the LLC is coming along, so that everything clear. Are you travelling today?
L.Ann, we want to hear more about Firecracker meatloaf. Does it have whole peppercorns hidden in it like the coins in the plum pudding?
kitkat, I knew that hockey came from a French word, but I always thought that it was the word for puck. I'm almost positive that if a kid from Quebec asks you "As-tu un autre hockey?" they're asking for a puck, not the stick.
Thursday
Breakfast for dog

I had to look at the recipe, Dogged. It is ground turkey with garlic, panko and stir fry sauce mixed in. Then at the end you put on a firecracker sauce that has mayo, chili sauce, and ponzu sauce. When do you leave GMA? Oops, I see it is Saturday. How long will you be gone?Have a good day KitKat.

Re: There's Always Hockey on Thursday @ TDD - C&C
I don't want to think about payroll. I will be the bigger person and not say something about fragile egos of people who should have outgrown kindergarten attitudes long ago, but truth to be told, I am being VERY productive since it's better to just burry myself in my long overdue tasks and actually BE busy. But I once again turned my work phone off when I left the office. And even more glad I am not going into office tomorrow!
kittykatt, I was just really confused this morning - I had these vivid memories of setting the thread up but it was not in the top three!
helia, when I was studying in the States, and I'd say I was Czech, people were giving me blank stares. But when I started adding "like Dominik Hasek, the Dominator!" they were like "ooooh!" Back then, he was playing for Buffalo Sabres and I was in upstate New York, so he really was something.
hope you have them shovels ready, L.Ann, that's some serious snowfall!
kitkat, is snow not usual in your region?
gma, how long will you stay in Florida?
TaDas

- day at work
- grocery run
- gas car + buy car light bulbs
- pick up DBD
