Sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum) is a mat-forming perennial that makes good ground cover for shady spots. It grows naturally in damp UK and continental European woodlands, especially in chalky areas. In the garden it grows best in moist but well-drained soil in partial or full shade, though it will tolerate dry shade. It bears pretty white flowers in late spring and early summer. In the UK it goes dormant in winter, and its leaves die back. Fresh new leaves grow in spring.

Another name for sweet woodruff is sweet-scented bedstraw, a hint that the strong fragrance of the dried plant was traditionally used to mask bad smells indoors. The aromatic compound coumarin gives the leaves their fragrance and flavouring, and it also serves as a fixative in perfume making. The scent is even more pronounced and long lasting in dried leaves, making them a nice addition in potpourri and sachets. It is also thought to repel moths.

In the Middle Ages, sweet woodruff was used to treat a number of ailments, and in modern herbal medicine it is used as an anti-inflammatory and diuretic.

Sweet woodruff is edible. When picked young and eaten fresh, the leaves have a mild flavour. However, when dried they develop a strong taste of hay and vanilla. Sweet woodruff has also been used in cheesemaking (to curdle the milk) and to add a mild vanilla flavour to salads, jellies and beer. It is also used to flavour ice cream, tea, and, of course, May wine. In Germany, waldmeister syrup is sold as a flavoring for beverages of all kinds; in fact, one of its iconic beers, Berliner weisse, is often flavored with a shot of this bright green syrup.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Wednesday!

Helia, I hope your DH arrives safely and manages to get some sleep. You've reminded me I have a bag of donations I need to walk over to the charity bank. Perhaps today?

Gma, thank you for sharing such fascinating information. I'm glad you had a lovely weekend with Mr VKM, and pray your family continue to stay safe and enjoy their break.

L.Ann, I hope the knee settles soon.

(((KitKat))) Family illness is always stressful.

Bama, I have two friends with Chihuahuas or Chihuahua crosses, and they both wear muzzles when out in public. One has a tendency to attack very large dogs!!!

Laura, Gma is right and antibiotics.can.upset appetite. Can you talk to the the vet about some probiotics? They might help Casper. If when he's finished his course of antibiotics, could you talk to the vet about trying g another brand of his special food? Hills Science Diet and Royal Canon come to mind.as.bramds that both make the prescription diets for dogs and cats with bladder crystals and UTIs,. but apparently they taste slightly different from each other,.so Casper may well prefer one over the other. But I would wait and see if his appetite picks up once her has finished his course of antibiotics.

Dogged, LOL at Germane's look when you moved her bed! Matilda was definitely Not Happy withe yesterday, and when bedtime came, she curled up at the bottom of the bed with her back to me. (She usually lies up by the pillow). I just gave her the usual good night treat and turned the light out. And yes, by this morning she was back on the pillow! I think I'm forgiven. :D

I never made it back yesterday, but I did get my housework done,.and worked on paperwork while DH was out. I need to get back into this habit, as the letter rack is still bulging, although not as badly.as it was!

☀️Good morning, kittykatt, LAnn.

The sun is still struggling to come up here so I’m not in any hurry to get moving. I got up to let the dogs out and see what’s what in the rest of the house, so far so good on the floors. :P I’ll be back in a little while.

Good morning and thanks for the start Kittykatt . Thanks for your kind words.
Let's see what today brings.
I'm impressed with your progress with papers. It's my worst enemy...

LAnn glad your knee feels better. That cupboard looks really neat.

Bama - we have no sun either. In fact, we got a fair amount of snow, thanks to the Alberta Clipper... I will have my workout again:)

So...
2 appointments today and possibly a lunch or coffee with DD in between. I also intend to walk pup in the snow as I know she'll enjoy that. It does not seem like much will get done in between... but I'll try.

Morning all. Thanks again for all the helpful info. He ate last night. I think his appetite is off. A little. I don't know if he needs a different brand. Not even sure at this point if it needs to be longterm. Just finish the meds and do another sample. Maybe get another bag of food and see how he does.

Anyway early start today. My sister is coming to pick me up in 20 minutes. Leaving just before dh. He will have to go from work to get ds to school. I feel like this is going to be a down and back trip. I'd gladly stop at Costco if they do but not going to ask. Depends on dad's energy and now it seems my sister has a cold. Gotta do it anyway I can't do this without her.

Hopefully we get things on the right path and it can eliminate most of dad's stress. 🤍

Thanks for the pic, L Ann. So THAT is a jelly cupboard! I'd never heard of one before.
Hoping for a good doctor appointment.
I hope you get to have time with DD, kitkat! We got a little bit more snow too, not too much - a strong dusting.
Yay for clean floors, Bama! What will this day bring?
WTG on the paperwork, Kitty. I hope you get out in your garden today.
Have a good trip, Lauralind. I hope you can get things better settled with your dad.

Dh got home safely around 8:15 a.m. He slept about 4 hours on the 2nd flight, so he's sleeping a bit more now before his 10:30 a.m. class. I think he just got up! Thank you for your kind thoughts!

It is gray today, around freezing. A bit of wind. I might opt for a long walk for exercise today - or go to the gym. Haven't decided yet.

Today, I have nothing on my calendar other than watching Fable for an hour around dinner time. I'll do this at the girls' place since dh won't be here to help - and last time I tried to bring Fable home, she refused to get in my car. Things I'd like to do: exercise, payroll - some for class and some for exam prep, progress writing, and progress dealing with my mom's stuff.

Next:
- schedule out day
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care

Later:
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- make bed
- tidy kitchen
- payroll: post practice exam + AK
- payroll: prep AR D4

- after lunch clean up
- work on Mom's stuff
- take stuff to charity?
- message CG
- figure out if SS needs me for the ESL class tomorrow?
- writing time
- read book
- dinner: salmon, rice, broccoli (will change out salmon for chicken if SS doesn't need me tomorrow night)
- after dinner clean up
- bins back to house
- duolingo
- update health apps

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - down
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
