Re: St John's Wort Sunday
St John's Wort ( Hypericum perforatum) is a perennial plant with yellow flowers, that grows on glades, meadows, scrubs and forest edges. It is one of the most commonly used herbs due to its versatile operation. St. John’s wort is widely used as an herbal remedy for mild to moderate depression, often acting similarly to antidepressants by boosting neurotransmitters like serotonin. St. John’s wort owes these properties to hypericin, which inhibits the breakdown of serotonin. In contrast, a deficiency of serotonin can cause symptoms of depression, anxiety and bad mood.It is sold over-the-counter as capsules, teas, and extracts.
Other key benefits include managing anxiety, menopausal symptoms, SAD and wound healing, though it is highly noted for severe interactions with various prescription medications, so should always be used with caution.

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
And Happy month of March !
Thanks for the botanical start, kittykatt. Many signs of Spring here. Glad you had time in your garden yesterday. I hope you have a good time at church.
L.Ann isn't playing bagpipes a bit difficult ? I seem to remember (form a trip to Scotland) that you need large lungs and good arms and a very good "ear".
trissie, glad you enjoyed skiing. We went to a small resort, Chastreix-Sancy, in the Massif Central area, not the Alps : rounder, lower moutains, smaller crowds, a bit cheaper, and usually less snow - but we were lucky, good snow and sunshine.
Laura I love reading about your crochet projects.
Waving to everyone else !
I went missing after mid-morning yesterday. Many things to do, and also I think we didn't realise how tiring those days were. The kids fought a lot during the trip and yesterday, a reason for tiredness but also a sign of their own tiredness I think. We watched Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky and both grownups fell asleep on the couch.
I couldn't do the grocery order ysesterday, no free slots before Monday. I will have to do a trip to the convenience store after posting this, so we can eat proper food for lunch and dinner, and have a healthy breakfast tomorrow.
TADAs
time for thought in bed, then DS7 joined us there
all fed, tea for the grownups
read yesterday's posts
displayed the family planner on the fridge, for March and April
TODOs
trip to convenience store for a few basics
prep lunch, maybe bake easy cake
MrNG is planning to search for a new grass mower, our old one won't start
things to set up for the week
relaxe, make plans for myself (what to read next, some craft projects for my tiny slots of spare time ?)
post list for the upcoming week
... and more
I intend to BBL !

Re: St John's Wort Sunday
Frenchie, kids thrive on routine and being thrown out of it always results in cranky overtired kids - even if they are teens, in our case! And frankly, even parents thrive on routine
kittykatt, it does look like meteorological spring here too! I've noticed some flowers in my garden too, so I know it's time to venture outside.
I had a super long sleep-in. I didn't sleep well at the cottage - the mattress was too soft and also DH is coming down with some cold and his snoring is even worse than normally and DBD kept waking up and coming to us and once I fully wake up during the night I may take several hours to fall back asleep. So I banished DH to the living room sofa last night and got me 9 hours of sleep and that felt heavenly!
Still not done with the trip laundry. I ran four loads yesterday (last on overnight) and it's at least 2, possibly three (if I wash the jackets) for today! I really couldn't do the once a week thing that Dana White from A slob comes clean does - we'd have to have more clothes and more storage for dirty clothes and more time to deal with huge loads and I'd also have to use the non-eco friendly short cycles on everything. One a day delay started means I can use the 4 hour eco cycle and have the laundry clean when I get home!

Re: St John's Wort Sunday
Good morning!
Kittykatt thanks for another great start. St. John's Wort is one of my favourite plants. It's beautiful. (and not easy to find)
Enjoy the service:)
FFly - nice to have you back! We all need routine... (at least, some)
trissie - time delay is a nice function on these machines. I could NEVER do once a week laundry - even though it's just the two of us (and pup, who has her own laundry, of course...)
I kind of disappeared: had DGD overnight Friday night... then, Saturday afternoon I needed a nap to recover and was sluggish all day. But, I'm back.
I have a morning class today, then will need another store walk with dpup. I was hoping we were done with those but:
we had more snow last night. Currently we have -14C windchill... but, the good news is that by next weekend we should have 8 to 10 C!
I shall return after my class. Enjoy your Sunday Everyone!

Re: St John's Wort Sunday
trissie, I've never heard of delay start on a washing machine and it sounds like such a great idea. SO glad you got a good sleep. It might take time to catch up on that too. . . Nice to have you back.
Do you need to mow grass where you are, FFB? Grass here is once again covered in white.
Have a good morning at church, Kitty! Is your cherry cake for lunch today?
Hi Doggedly! I think I need that "clean your house" reminder sometimes.
I think we are weather twins, kitkat. We got snow last night and we're about -13C windchill. Are you looking at a lot of rain in your forecast? Have a good class!
The sun is coming up and our bird feeder is busy, mainly finches and cardinals and a red-bellied woodpecker. Oh - and a titmouse just arrived. I hear a mourning dove but I can't see it.
It is colder today, 17*F right now (-8.3 C and -13C with windchill) and will not get above freezing. We got snow overnight, a heavy dusting, I'd say. But we should have sunshine! Tomorrow is forecast to be sunny too -- and then it looks like 5 days of rain Tuesday - Saturday, possibly freezing rain on Wednesday.
We're leaving for Texas on Thursday, and Austin's forecast is even worse - rain and thunderstorms every day from Wednesday Mar. 3 - Tuesday Mar. 10. Maybe beyond but that's as far as the forecast goes. It's still some time out so maybe it could change a bit, but it doesn't look promising. We partially go to Austin to experience better weather.
At least it will be a lot warmer. We can visit with our dear friends there regardless of the weather, and that's the most important thing.
Today: This is a scheduled Sunday. Like all day except for about 3 hours in the afternoon is scheduled. I also have 1.5 unscheduled hours this morning before we have to leave; I need to use some of it to s2s, etc. So church will keep us out of the house for most of the morning, 9:45 - 12:30ish is my guess with communion. Then, we host CG2 3:30 - 6ish. Then, we immediately host Sunday dinner 6 - 8:30ish. How we'll heat up the food for Sunday dinner at 6 while hosting CG2 until 6 is a mystery to me.
M usually does this but she's out of town for a couple weeks. I may excuse myself from CG2 in our living room to get the food in the oven. Other things: a walk would be good as I'm trying to stay active. Writing progress and exam prep progress would also be good.
Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
Later:
- reclaim the kitchen
- lists in notebook
- out 9:45 - 12:30ish? church
- lunch
- payroll: exam prep progress
- writing time
- spiff main bathroom
- tidy living room
- can I get in a walk?
- 3:30 - 6-ish host CG2
- 6 - ? host Sunday dinner - How will we warm up the food when we're hosting 2 events back to back?
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update health apps
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - up a bit (I ate a lot with the afternoon potluck)
- coffee
- email deletions + weather websites

Re: St John's Wort Sunday
I forgot to greet Doggedly ! I hope you're fast asleep.
kitkat, so you have Spring weather coming soon ?
helia sorry the weather in Texas won't be what you hoped for. Here the weather is milder, and in the mountains (2 days ago) the snow was melting in most places. It will soon be time to mow. Delay start is such an important feature ! It seems that loads of laundry in the US are shorter than in Europe. I think most washers can be eco-friendly with longer programs of washing, but you have to start them before you're awake, or while you're still at payroll, so they end when you're ready to get the clothes out.
trissie glad you could get a good night's sleep. I hear you on the loads of laundry. Just the four of us, require at least 2 loads a week, a third for delicates every other weekend, minimum. after a ski trip, or during bad weather, we need more than that. We also choose not to use the dryer when we can do without, so the process is slowed down because of only two drying racks -> two loads at a time.
Oh, routines. Yes, everything done out of habit is easier, less decision fatigue, less planning to do. On the other hand, you need ot have time slots for routines : some weeks, things go out of hand, and routines don't happen... Or when coming back from a trip, and you haven't been there all week : that's when you notice that the daily tasks are so important
I hate arriving home to an empty fridge, no payroll meals ready in the freezer, and 4 or 5 loads of laundry have to happen within one or two days.
... But, within a week of routines, things fall back into place, more or less.
TADAs
trip to convenience store for a few basics
prep lunch, maybe bake easy cake
read a bit (started the Dutch House by Ann Patchett)
TODOs
MrNG is planning to search for a new grass mower, our old one won't start
things to set up for the week
make plans for myself
dinner is red lentil dhal with spinach, and rice
post list for the upcoming week
... and more
I hope to BBL !
