Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was an American poet. Known for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech, Frost frequently wrote about settings from rural life in New England in the early 20th century, using them to examine complex social and philosophical themes.
Frequently honoured during his lifetime, Frost is the only poet to receive four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry. He became one of America's rare "public literary figures, almost an artistic institution". Appointed United States Poet Laureate in 1958, he also received the Congressional Gold Medal in 1960, and in 1961 was named poet laureate of Vermont. Randall Jarrell wrote: "Robert Frost, along with Stevens and Eliot, seems to me the greatest of the American poets of this century. Frost's virtues are extraordinary. Bama, I think one reason our lists grow is because when we tackle a job, we "see" the other jobs that need doing, or sometimes that job leads to other jobs. I write them on my list so I don't forget and try and keep to the job in hand.
Dogged, it's the start of spring, so I can relate to that overwhelmed feeling! The garden is a canvass with all the seasonal tasks awaiting. I could work for a whole day out there, and still not be done. So I block off a realistic time period, say a couple of hours, and set myself some task to be done during that time. It often overruns, but that's ok, as when I've finished, those tasks are done (at least for now!) I will start to chip away a the next task next time I go out. Somehow, it all gets done eventually, without feeling too overwhelmed!
Gma, those brownies sound delicious! I'm sure your family will enjoy the results of your baking.
Helia, I hope you've arrived safely,.and that the weather is kind. I was interested to read you didn't like poetry at school, and my.immmedaite thought was you may have been made to concentrate on works that just didn't appeal at that age? And we dont have to like or enjoy everything just because it's written by someone famous, or is considered "worthy" - taste is very subjective!
I was introduced to poetry from a very youmg age and can remember reciiting John Masefield's "Cargoes" and "Sea Fever" with my father, both of us sitting on the garden swing from about the age of 3yo. (I grew up by the sea, so they had particular appeal, and they also give very clear "visual" images, even though I almost certainly didn't appreciate the finer meanings at 3 yo!

At primary school we studied carefully curated extracts of Hiawatha. (I have no idea why Longfellow's poem was considered suitable reading for 6 and 7 year olds, but I did enjoy it, and can still remember chunks of it.) As an imaginative hormonal teenager, I was thrilled.

But that's enough musings for today. I didn't sleep wonderfully well, I think I was still trying to process some of yesterday's events, and trying to come to terms with the fact that there are some things that are out of our control and we can do *nothing* about, we just have to accept them. I think Matilda senses something as she was very cuddly and attentive.
The main event today is to visit DNeighbours S.and T to meet their cat,.Cookie,.who we're going to be cat sitting while they're taking a well deserved holiday. S is extremely organised, so I'm sure she'll have written everything down for us, especially feeding routines and important contact numbers.
Apart from that, I have a free day -the last free Friday for a while. Not sure what the weather is doing yet, but I have plenty to keep me busy, both indoors and out!

Sharing something I read this morning, (sorry, I don't know the original author!) which may help those of us struggling with feeling overwhelmed by all there is to do!
A simple rule that changed my life: If it takes less than 5 minutes, do it now. Reply to the text. Make the bed. Send the invoice. Book the appointment. These tiny tasks pile up in your brain like unpaid bills. Clear them immediately. You’ll be shocked how much mental space you get back when you stop carrying 50 five-minute tasks in your head.

About the simple rule: It does not work for me. Working off a list, when I can stick to it, does. Those "distractions", like answering a text, e-mail, immediately, or spotting a plant that needs water and doing it right away, or noticing that the garbage needs to go out b/c it's getting too full, will have me walk around in circles, forgetting what I was supposed to finish.
So, I did not make it back:
I took my pup for a walk at a Home Depot. Then, went to my class and had a good workout. When I got home, my two DGDs were coming to spend the evening with me so I made some food. It was a full day.
Today:
We had freezing rain overnight. Had to be careful when we went out. It's supposed to warm up to 4C today. I will delay our walk to early afternoon when the rain is gone.
Planning a Stretch class late morning:)
My youngest DGD is coming for sleepover tonight.
I MUST:
PUPAs second bedroom
charge battery for camera
PUPAs main floor
clear/clean counters
lol (at least one)
pa basketful (folded) laundry from yesterday
Off to do my MR

Morning all. I was going to comment on that do it now advice. Makes complete sense. There are so many little things that I keep trying to remember to do. Do it right now? Except then I read kitkats comment. Yup that is me too. Exactly. Then I never finish anything all the way and can spin circles. You know I keep complaining about feeling like I never am done and never have an all the way Clean house. But I will give flylady a big credit. My morning routine from shower S&s laundry.. kitchen floors. I can get all the way to cat boxes and garbage out all the way. Then honestly it just takes putting away a few things and vacuum and it's close enough for company ready. But it works best one step at a time and not trying to be sidetracked and do it all at once. I just don't get through it all the way very often.
I slept in this morning by my books. 545 ish. Now I lost all my qt time.. maybe I will just do 9 to 530 again cause I should hurry off to the shower already ... ugh these days of nothing to do at work..
And then if I did what the vet said I should see if I can get another sample off Casper again. Bring it in and make sure he's getting better. I think so? It's visibly not as dark but he went and marked my curtain the other night again.. he never does that in the house.
Oh and this little sweater I'm trying to make is proving par for my crochet projects. I had done the entire 10 row rotation. Pretty. Except even second time through it insists on being a paralellogram.
. Angled edge. I don't get it. I'm going to improvise it a bit myself and see if I can get it to go straight. Then it's a really easy pattern.
I gotta get up and get moving soon. First off find the schedule and see if late shift flies.
Edit -- well all those ideas are ... I am scheduled for 8 today. Vet will have to wait for Monday. Casper is fine just should make sure.

Nevery made it here yesterday. It was an office day, then drove home, got groceries, put them away and hit the road again - I had tickets to see The Increased Difficulty of Concentration by Vaclav Havel ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incre ... centration ). My former HS classmate was the director of that play, so we coordinated within our little theatre-going group and four of us went and we met him for drinks after the play (one of the perks of having a theatre director friend is that we always have a reason to meet! and he sometimes gets us discounted tickets, but I value the fun evenings more). Anyway, got home after midnight, so no cleaning happened. By my hand, that is, the house actually looked pretty good and it was DH's doing!
L.Ann, do you have to take the recyclings to a collection point, or do they do a roadside pick up?
kitkat, freezing rain is NOT fun! We've been having freezing fog. That's kinda the same, only you have it also in places where the rain wouldn't get.
kittykatt, I wanted to thank you - your French song inquiry got me started on listening to French songs and I absolutely fell in love with the yé-yé style! And I discovered Françoise Hardy, and "Tous les garçons et les filles" is my new favourite song!
lauralind, there's certainly no size fits them all to cleaning advice, and sometimes even the same person can apply different strategies for different tasks! I mean, something may only take 5 minutes, but while it's OK to do it now when I have 15 minutes set aside for handling things, it's certainly not OK to do it now if I am trying to get dinner on the table!

Hi, all. I am feeling grumbly because I got up much earlier than usual, and have nothing to show for it. I got up thinking that I could wrestle my Inner Brat into the shower before she woke up, but spent my first hour up cleaning up after Germane, who is not feeling well, and the next half hour dealing with the internet as both of my modems went offline. 
Finally got to sit down with a cup of coffee and check my emails to find a notice from my building that they will be testing the fire alarms for three straight days next week. That means that the elevators may be turned off when Costco does their delivery big stuff that I ordered (life time supplies of wipes, TP and pads), and when I need to bring the dog down for her grooming appointment (and get back up to the apartment).
Bama and Gma, I ducked out on you early and got to bed at a reasonable hour, only to get up early and make no headway. Maybe I should go back to bed and start the day over, LOL. WTG on you both on what you got done!
Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt, and with one of my favourite poets! I always associate Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening with Pierre Trudeau's walk in the snow before he retired from politics. (Pierre Trudeau was the Prime Minister of Canada for my entire early life, and father of Justin Trudeau.)
We didn't get a lot of poetry in school when I was young, and what we got was English or American. I don't remember getting Canadian literature of any type in school.
At this point, I haven't even CUOP'd the first page, but I've ben up too long with nothing to show for it, so I'll stop and try to get something done. Sorry for being such a downer today. I'm really not a morning person.

Cleaned up after dog X 2
Put dog in the sink and spot-cleaned her
Put on a pot of coffee
Tried multiple times to get Alexa to play the radio
Power-cycled Alexa
Checked internet: both modems down
Checked for outages: neither ISP reports and outage
Powercycled both modems
Tested internet: working now
Tested Alexa: still not working

Finally got to sit down with a cup of coffee and check my emails to find a notice from my building that they will be testing the fire alarms for three straight days next week. That means that the elevators may be turned off when Costco does their delivery big stuff that I ordered (life time supplies of wipes, TP and pads), and when I need to bring the dog down for her grooming appointment (and get back up to the apartment). Bama and Gma, I ducked out on you early and got to bed at a reasonable hour, only to get up early and make no headway. Maybe I should go back to bed and start the day over, LOL. WTG on you both on what you got done!

I always associate Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening with Pierre Trudeau's walk in the snow before he retired from politics. (Pierre Trudeau was the Prime Minister of Canada for my entire early life, and father of Justin Trudeau.)
