The Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas) is usually seen in ones and twos, but in some years large numbers may be found at good sites. Males are territorial, often choosing a piece of bare ground or a stone on which to bask and await passing females. They behave aggressively towards any passing insects, returning to the same spot when the chase is over.

The Small Copper is small butterfly with a wing span range (male to female): 32-35mm. The small copper has bright orange forewings with dark brown spots and a thick, dark brown margin. It has dark brown hindwings that are banded with orange.

Though it remains a common and widespread species, the Small Copper declined throughout its range during the twentieth century. It is Widespread through Britain and Ireland, and occasionally visits gardens. It occurs in a wide variety of habitats, and is commonly found on chalk or unimproved grassland, heathland, woodland clearings, waste ground and moorland. Warm, dry conditions are favoured.

Common Sorrel (Rumex acetosa) and Sheep's Sorrel (R. acetosella) are the main foodplants for the caterpillars. Broad-leaved Dock (R. obtusifolius) may be occasionally used.

Oh, and we also need to feed Izzy and Cookie -DF CW is back this evening, and S &T are back sometime tomorrow.

Kittykatt, I see your dh scrubbing the litter pans and am wondering how you managed that? Mine won’t touch anything to do with the pets except under duress.

Bama, the best I was able was to convince DH to do that while I was pregnant and the smell made me want to add to the contents of the litterbox
kittykatt, is it the Christmas lunch you're already signing up for? Or the normal regular one?
Frenchie, what movie did you watch last night? We did Jurrasic World, and while the kids like it, seeing the films in a short sequence means I'm kinda like "yeah, you really didn't bother writing an original story, did you?"

Never got back here, but I did acquire a swimsuit in DBD's size! Quite an achievement in March, if you ask me - the organizers ask for two one-piece swimsuits, and we only had one, because one piece swimsuits are not really convenient for kids in my book - to complicated to take off to go to the bathroom and pull the wet thing up. Also, most of them have these criss-cross shoulder straps which are difficult to navigate for a child. So I was looking for something one-piece, straight shoulder straps, not too expensive, in March, when they still have gloves in the main section! The fact that I came home with one was sheer luck!

Today, the goal is to take care of the inside and the packing before lunch, and spend the afternoon in the garden. Weather is much better today! Also, the forecast for Tuesday, when I plan to do home office because I have an all-day online seminar (hate to do those in the office) is sunny and 16C, so if that holds, I'll be one happy gardener as soon as I finish!

trissie, glad you were able to find a swimsuit. Having sons I am sometimes surprised by issues specific to parents of daughters and then I remember how my mom had to deal with them and I don't have to. Like one-piece swimsuits vs two-piece ones. Or the time spent ensuring the kids' hair are tied properly. Or the questions about having their earlobes pierced. It makes me glad I got sons
I hope you get to do the gardening tasks you want to get done.

It's still morning for a few minutes. I did some deep-cleaning yesterday, kitchen and bathroom. I will do some more today. I hardly ever get to do deep cleaning.
DS7 has a birthday party this afternoon. DS10 should be easy to take care of. I intend to sew (again, but better) the cover I have tried many times on the couch - to hide the dirt and spots on the couch that won't go away.
MrNG (bless him) took both cars (one then the other one) to the carwash place, for much-needed washing (for mine), checking the tire pressure, filling gas (expensive!), and vacuum clean his car because he does carpooling tomorrow for 3 other students at his training program (something a bit further away than usual).

Oh, I checked the internet and you can actually buy them, they don't have to be custom made! No gardening for you today? But I envy you the sewing time!
