Re: Siege of Tobruk Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
The siege of Tobruk took place between 10 April and 27 November 1941, during the Western Desert campaign (1940–1943) of the Second World War. An Allied force, consisting mostly of the 9th Australian Division, commanded by Lieutenant-General Leslie Morshead, was besieged in the North African port of Tobruk by German and Italian forces. The tenacious defenders quickly became known as the Rats of Tobruk. After 231 days, they were finally relieved by the British Eighth Army.
In late 1940, the Allies had defeated the Italian 10th Army during Operation Compass (9 December 1940 – 9 February 1941) and trapped the remnants at Beda Fomm. On 22 January 1941, Tobruk's Italian garrison surrendered. But in early 1941, much of the British Western Desert Force was sent to the Greek and Syria–Lebanon campaigns, leaving only a skeleton force short of equipment and supplies.
Adolf Hitler felt compelled to send reinforcements, commanded by Generalleutnant Erwin Rommel, to rescue his beleaguered Italian ally. Rommel launched Operation Sonnenblume (6 February – 25 May 1941), driving the Allies back across Libya to the Egyptian border. However, Tobruk held out, depriving Rommel of a supply port closer to the Egyptian–Libyan border than Benghazi, 560 mi (900 km) west of the Egyptian frontier. The Axis siege of Tobruk began on 10 April and continued despite two failed Allied relief attempts: Operation Brevity (15–16 May) and Operation Battleaxe (15–17 June). The garrison repulsed several Axis attacks. The port was frequently bombarded by artillery, dive-bombers and medium bombers, while the Royal Air Force flew defensive sorties from airfields far away in Egypt. Allied naval forces, such as the British Mediterranean Fleet (including the Inshore Squadron) ran the blockade, carrying reinforcements and supplies in and the wounded and prisoners out. Finally, Operation Crusader (18 November – 30 December) succeeded in raising the siege.

Re: Siege of Tobruk Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
There's quite a few movies and TV series that cover the Western Desert Campaign, but I will confess the one I really enjoyed was S.A.S. Rogue Heroes. Based on the 2016 book of the same name by Ben Macintyre,it is broadly accurate of real events (well at least the first series, the second (SAS operations in European theatre) takes more liberty with the events and the third, which should cover liberation of France, is under development, so we shall see. It's apparently streaming on Amazon Prime (though UK may have it on BBC?) and it's definitely worth checking out!

Re: Siege of Tobruk Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning , Trissie, and thank you for another interesting start, and especially Yoda!
I'm.up.early today to take Fred to the vet for his sedation for his bloods and full physical.exam. Of course, he decided he was hungry 15 minutes before the cut off time last night (10 pm), so I have him a snack, and he finished it by 9.53 pm. He will NOT be happy this morning with no breakfast, but fortunately I only have to deal.woth his bad temper until I drop him.off at the vet.
I never made it back yesterday, I had the second MMR jab, and, once again, it's caused my eczema to flare up overnight.
. The nurse also isn't happy with how the bite Fired have me back in February still hasn't healed completely. She thinks it's because cats have dirty mouths, but I've asked the vet if Fred can have a really thorough dental exam, just to rule out anything going on there (bad tooth, gum disease etc,) that could have contributed 5 the problem.
So, today is going to be taken up with delivering and later collect Freddie, and, no doubt,.apologise for his appalling behaviour. My only consolation is that since we've started this new protocol where I had him over directly to the vet, he hasn't attacked anyone!

Re: Siege of Tobruk Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
I've dropped Fred off at the vet, had a long discussion with his vet for the day, punctuated by Freddie's hissing and swearing, and come home for breakfast. Matilda is missing Freddie, and was running around crying,
so I've had a brisk game with the fishing rod toy with her, to wear her out.
The vet has just rung - Freddie has considerably more build up on his back teeth teeth than last time, so the recommendation was to put him right out with a GA, take dental x-rays, give him a scale and polish, and extract any teeth that need to go. So I've agreed to all that, as we don't want Fred to be in pain. (Could this be the reason he's been a bit bitey recently??) They were spinning the bloods as we spoke -if there's anything strange they'll send them to the lab.
I'm sitting in my garden, but I need to start my housework soon. Not sure when I'll be picking Fred up, it will depend on what they find, and as ever there will be the compromise between keeping him until it's safe for him to.go home, and sending him home before he attacks someone!

Re: Siege of Tobruk Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
And now I've finally CUOP a little.
(((Bama))) I dont know much about dogs' medical issues, but if it's anything like cats, they want to retest Beau to check their provisional diagnosis is correct. Many things can throw a test "off" , including a blip on the machine, or the animal being stressed, or not having eaten. Freddie's potassium levels were low last May, but had corrected themselves by September. (If he was co operative, or if they had been very worried, he would have been retested earlier, but as he's a black and white psychopath, they decided to wait as it's not good to sedate him too often.) I'm hoping everything is still good today
Dogged, LOL, DH did *not* take Freddie to the vet today, (I don't think he would know where to begin!) but he did help me get him into his carrier!
