Thursday Fact-Checking PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Today is International Fact-Checking day - a reminder to always check the facts before falling for some of the insane things you might hear or read out there!

from https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/inte ... cking-day/
Longing for the truth in information? Then you are not alone! International Fact-Checking Day encourages people across the globe to slow down, verify what they see and hear, and push back against misinformation and disinformation with something refreshingly old-fashioned: evidence.

The rallying cry, “Fact-Checking is Essential,” is the theme of this day that is celebrated annually but should truly be part of each person’s responsibility every day of the year.

From neighborhood gossip to viral videos, the modern information stream moves fast, and the habit of checking claims before sharing them is one of the simplest ways to make daily life a little saner.

Good morning! Thanks for opening us up, Twins! Interesting that fact-checking day should be the day after April Fool's Day. "But I heard...."

Did not get any of my anti-procrastination stuff done yesterday but watched the rocket instead. I should do better today -- DH is working from home, so I will be less likely to goof off. (Not that watching the launch was exactly goofing off.) Poor DH; he did go in to work today but was home in about an hour -- it turns out his floor will have no power for the entire day while something is being worked on. They knew about this well in advance but didn't tell him. I suspect no one thought of it as he is, I think, the only administrative person on that floor, and there are no classes today. So he grabbed a few files (which he would have grabbed yesterday if he'd only known) and came home to work.

I've cooked DC breakfast and gotten out their pills, and they've finally come downstairs, so it's time to go. Don't know if I'll be back later -- have a great day, everybody!

In other news, this is Holy Week for Christians and today Maundy Thursday. Last was the first night of Passover. Dfriends V and J normally have a seder on the first night, but this year John is traveling and they are having it on Friday night. Will be small, I think only 9 people, including the two of us and ds.

Energy is okay today. I have been so so very achy. Driving 1000 miles round trip and library days, and then Tuesday of this week at desk have done me in. I'll be stretching today when I workout, and I did do a bit of stretching last night as dh grilled the chicken.

I have a Habitat pick up scheduled for today, dh and pulled stuff out but both of us may be out for awhile this afternoon. I might put stuff by the garage on driveway before I leave for workout later.

Mystery, I hadn't thought of that but I did see a lot of April Fool's announcements yesterday...
https://www.facebook.com/CWArchaeology The city public works department had an announcement of a "rail terminal" being placed in a big downtown park, along with 300 Bradford pears! I was reading along until I got to the Bradford pears, which are a no-no now.

Wish I could remember all of them, can't find this a.m. of course.

I went and got my hair cut to a "summer short" length. I had 8 inches cut off and the sides are thinned out. Of course dh loves it. I'm not sure about it yet. I love the back, but not the front. Of course it will take me a few days to really figure out that I will love it.

New-to-us PSW coming today. Also no PSW tomorrow due to holiday.

I need to go to a store and get milk later today.

With no dishes to wash, I feel like I have the rest of the day off. I need to go outside and grab the large compost bin from the end of the driveway.

Looking in, I finally changed out pillows and pillow covers on the front porch. I need to get more inserts, I had bought some new covers and don't have pillows I can stuff in the covers. May need to think on it, I put the pillow bins away and got out the Spring and Summer decoration bins.

Just realized I need to eat...

Good morning

I woke up before the alarm feeling ready to get started. The teenagers have been successfully launched for a few hours away from home.

Skippable! Talking it out to myself.
I got the cholesterol blood test report and it is not ideal (3x what they recommend). I have a 1pm appointment with family doctor about it and I'm sure he isn't going to be pleased. It feels like I have a double stack working against me because I have Familial hypercholesterolemia along with intolerable muscle pain as side effect of every single statin (yes, I've tried them all). For the past 3 months we tried double fish oil but that has not had a positive effect on the cholesterol numbers. Since I have blood work before and after starting the fish oil which gives me proof they are not helpful, I will stop taking them. I spent some time researching this morning and have put together a plan that I am willing to try. My plan is lowest dose statin available...cut in half....and taken every other day. Hopefully it won't cause painful muscle aches at that low dose. They can do another bloodwork test again in 3 months and see if it has a positive effect on cholesterol numbers.
I do find it interesting that my family has no history of heart attacks.....but we have extremely high cholesterol.

CUOP w/out reading

I have brain fry from mower info. packages ect. comparing vids.
diff. stores and dual port charges and voltage sizes, ack!
LOL! Voltage and lawn size matters! Ack! Still learning.
I've changed my mind every day this week as to the brand.
-----
Now I've settled on a brand, and learning they have diff. power voltage amounts Ack &
Eek! It's like car shopping there is a lot to process...

How much to mow:
1/2 acre mine is not that much so I look for one that will do that amount and it's flat.
That matters too. Home stinko does not have what I want so not wasting time looking there.
Diff. if you have a 3/4 to 5 acres...just glad that's not the case! LOL!

-----
Looks like low stock might have to grow a meadow or get a goat! LOL!

Fact-Checking - obviously, I did mishear the name of the astronaut yesterday! It is not "Love", it is "Glover". At least I was straining to hear the facts, lol. We'll say the rocket sounds were loud. ;)

I did put off wrapping the present until this morning and got that done when I was not bleary. Made a modest bow so that HRH wouldn't tease... .. much.

Smoothie breakfast with several greens. It's the only way I can use some up, when a shopper gets confused and brings something really odd that would not be palatable in a salad. For instance, I ordered the smooth kale and the photo looked so appetizing, but what arrived was like stiff green lace.

We had a really nice lunch with ddolder's family and our granddog. And wore my new spring top, which is comfortable but less attractive because the print has way too much white. Oh well, I had something new to wear! I told the boys the story trissie shared a few days ago in her Battle of Monte topic, about the bear who was inducted into the military in WWII.

I did the blue stripe in my hair (for April fools)- dd older - oh the poor thing - she thought it was real - she thought it was a sign that maybe I was going off the deep end bc of all the stress we had gone through with brother etc. I said it made me happy - even dh said to her - "what to you see your mother".
She was in shock. we all said April fools and she was in shock still - later she said that I got her but poor thing had to digest it.

dd younger laughed at the picture. I told her that I did it for easter - then she said "well at least you should match the color on your shirt you will where. She thought is was cute and funny.

our city has been known as a horse town in the old days - it's a big horse area in the town next to us. so for April fools day the city photoshopped a horse in front of the local coffee shop being tied to the "new" hitching posts. What they said : "So, to better accommodate our neigh-bors, we are excited to announce that decorative hitching posts" too funny
it is always a joy to be here with you!
