The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire, in England, on 25 September 1066, between an English army under King Harold Godwinson and an invading Norwegian force led by King Harald Hardrada and the English king's brother Tostig Godwinson. After a bloody battle, both Hardrada and Tostig, along with most of the Norwegians, were killed. Although Harold Godwinson repelled the Norwegian invaders, his army was defeated by the Normans at Hastings less than three weeks later.

The battle has traditionally been presented as marking the end of the Viking Age, although major Scandinavian campaigns in Britain and Ireland occurred in the following decades, such as those of King Sweyn Estrithson of Denmark in 1069–1070 and King Magnus Barefoot of Norway in 1098 and 1102–1103.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Saturday!

L.Ann, I hope the weather cooperates for your family get together.

Helia, that's a large number to cater for!

Gma, your menu sounds delicious, and will be pleasing to the eye as well as tasting very good. 😋 (A DF who trained as a chef said one eats with the eyes as well as the mouth, and if a meal looks appetising then you're already half way there.) And, of course Mr VKM will enjoy your company.😀

I'm still having problems posting, so I copy my post before I hit submit in case it gets lost.
DH has gone to men's breakfast followed by a beer festival. I need to prep our Easter lunch for tomorrow, and make an apple pie (Ive already prepped and stewed the apple and it's safely in the freezer, so it's really just a matter of making the pastry and then assembling the thing). I also need to find the Easter chocolate I've hidden, and get that ready for tomorrow. And I need to write a card for DF PL, whose birthday is tomorrow, and drop that round at her house. Those, I think, are the "must dos", beside the usual daily tasks. I would also like to spend time just pottering in my garden, but the forecast isn't looking very promising. We'll see!

DH has been launched, and I've enjoyed a quieter morning. Freddie has had his breakfast, a walk and two snacks. DH pointed out yesterday that Fred doesn't meow, and he's right. He purrs when he's happy, he has an extensive and vituperative vocabulary when he's angry, and often uses sign language and gestures to effectively convey his wishes to us, but no meows! I'm contrast, Matilda never stops voicing her needs and opinions, and Jude has a rusty meow she uses when she particularly wants attention. I'm guessing Fred considers he has trained his staff to anticipate his demands, so he doesn't need to meow!

It's still dry out, and now the postman has delivered the parcel for DH, I'm going out on my garden.

That's another great SHEM, Kitty. That is interesting that Freddie doesn't meow. Mmm..... homemade apple pie!

I'm doing the same, Kitty, copying my posts. I had a couple glitches getting here this morning. I'll also split them up.

Today: Like Kitty, I need to prep for Easter dinner tomorrow. Unlike Kitty, I need to do that in a much more basic way, like going out and getting all the food. I plan to go to 2 grocery stores today. They each have items the other doesn't have. I also need to get food for CG1; I'm providing the main - but it is a small group today, just 12 people. (We're 28 people, including kids, when everyone is present.) I also must grade my exams. And then there is CG1 tonight, 5-9ish. I jogged yesterday, so no jogging today. Maybe I'll try for a walk when the weather is amenable.

The forecast is for rain today. It's not actively raining now but it clearly rained during the night, and the day is very gray. 🌧️

A male red-bellied woodpecker is looking for food at our feeder and there is none. I need to refill it today.

M has kindly volunteered to go pick up dd27 from the airport, otherwise, I'd be on the road doing that right now.
