Thriving on Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

How can PWYC compete with Rhode Island Red Chicken Thursday, LOL?

Let's go with thriving today - growing, developing or being successful...how to apply in our everyday? What kind of things nurture our successes and allow us to thrive where we are?

Thanks for opening us, Twins! (Now I have to go look up what a Rhode Island Red looks like -- I think I remember, but I'm not sure.) I hope your DS lands on his feet quickly -- good mom, making him some comfort food!

I am ahead of my usual schedule because DH is on retreat today & tomorrow. He is riding the bus with the kids, so he needed a ride in to school this morning and will need pickup at the end of the day tomorrow. It is a hiking retreat in the National Park south of town. We had rain last night, which was worse south of town (apparently a couple of suburbs had palm-sized hail  ; the largest I am used to seeing is about pony-bead sized), so I hope it's not too muddy for him. I guess there's a chance of rain before the retreat ends, but it's supposed to be brief downpours, which I suppose is better than all-day downpours.

I roused DC at the usual 9:00, but they haven't shown their face downstairs yet, so I should probably give them a nudge.

lucylee, I suspect you may be using too little water -- not enough to dilute the Metamucil. Then, again, there may not be any way to take it that will be comfortable for you. It's not exactly something you'd serve a guest. (I was going to say "drink by choice," but in reality, I drink mine by choice -- it's not prescribed or anything.)

Debating whether I want to try getting a load of laundry started before taking DC to school or filling out my pre-check-in for the nutritionist appointment. Probably the latter, since I meant to do that yesterday. Also need to decide what I'm going to do about dinner tonight without DH doing the cooking. Maybe red beans and rice. And maybe I'll roast some tomatoes for risotto tomorrow. Maybe. We'll see.

At any rate, I hope you and all who follow have a great day!

Hi!

Compost bin and recycling have been taken to the end of the driveway. Recycling got picked up less than an hour later.

I just want to stay home today.

Dh has been sleeping for most of the morning. He didn't say what he wanted for supper and I'm not in the mood to cook, so I have no inspiration or imagination today.

It's warm and windy and overcast here today. All 3 cats are sleeping.

I think the old saying is "If you can't beat them, join them." Time to go join the, and read until I have a nap. I just yawned, so maybe I won't even read.

Mystery, I went looking for the photo here in Outdoor forum of my RRI, Penny, that we took into our flock in her older age from a neighboring farm. But we had taken it down for the sake of saving bandwidth here. They are dark maroon red, and in a lot of sunshine can lighten, very plump but angular.

Hoping Mystery Man has a great hike, safe and sound.

We have a plan for remaining errands, just finishing up chores around the house and we're off.

I have made cookery promises so must live up to those and need a grocery trip, especially.

It makes me feel as though I'm THRIVING to be able to go out and have less restrictions. And getting my hands into the dirt like yesterday. "Growing" is a word that reminds me that there are things we do now that, when we see their THRIVING aspect later, fill us with a feeling of success. Twins' and her drifts of zinnias at times, LadyM and others whose square-foot-gardening overflows and rises from sensible boundaries. Thinking of Ramblin' and so many sunflower thriving successes.

oH, and I took some thriving photos of the third of the quilt I'm working on now, as it sort of "spilled" gracefully out from the sewing machine last night. I noticed, hey, that's a vision that will be gone soon into a completed work, don't forget what it was like to be in the midst! I think Kodak has given us a gift, yes, with a way to remember the times, you know? If you notice yourself or a project thriving, consider a picture of it, they don't take up much room.

Good morning

(((Twins & DSon))) You are a good mom. Being caught up in a mass layoff is a blow even though it is nothing personal. Hopefully given some time, he will look back and see this was a blessing in disguise.
pony-bead sized
I didn't know what this was so looked it up. That would not be fun to experience hail that size!

We used to raise several breeds of chickens. Rhode Island Red was a favorite because of their gental disposition.

The teens were launched to work and school with no problems. GPS was used in vehicle as we learn consistence in this new habit.

DH got up around 1am for bathroom but didn't come back to bed. After about 10 minutes I went to check on him and found him getting ready for the day. I told him it was the middle of the night, and he needed to return to bed. He did with no problems and slept for another 7 hours.
The hospital used bed alarms so DH couldn't get out of bed without alerting everyone. The bed alarms quickly became an unpopular noise. I don't want to use those at home with DH. I can set the cameras up to announce a person is in motion to notify me that DH is on the move. But the cameras will also announce that when the teens are moving through the house. I haven't decided on what level of safety is necessary for DH. I keep hoping he will return to his normal before last Sunday episode happened.

Post and run, as I'll be getting onto Zoom at the TOTH.

I believe both my grandmothers had Rhode Island Reds. I have only vague memories of my paternal grandmother's chickens and where they were. My maternal grandparents had chickens and a cow, even after they moved closer in. Grandfather had a big garden with tall corn too. And watermelons! And guinea hens too.

Workout this afternoon, ballpark this evening. Tomorrow night arts show/festival. Ballpark again on Saturday night.

Need to pick up at CVS. I purchased for later pick up because I had a 40% off coupon expiring yesterday.

LOL, Mystery. That is the truth! I am mixing it with peach flavored sweet tea, and it goes down okay... but I still dread it every morning. And ChatGPT wants me to add a dose before my largest meal of the day. SMH...

Don't know if y'all would call it thriving, but I am d2s, did my Bible reading, and I have talked to the teacher insurance people and emailed a copy of my new Medicare card to the teacher retirement system, as instructed.
Now -- must put on make-up and go get a Wmart pick-up order.

Haven't really cuop yet. BBL, I hope!
Must do school pick-up and go to dgd's ballgame. Then I think dgs is spending the night ("e-learning" day tomorrow. I think that basically means the teachers have a work day without kids bothering them.)

Oh -- my latest panic attack -- I have to stay off FB! Last night I read about a child being left behind on a field trip. DGD will soon be on a field trip to the state capitol -- about 4 hours away. I do not think ds or ddil will be chaperoning, and y'all know I am not going to volunteer to do such as that... Just have to trust her to the Lord... and give her strict warnings to never wander away from her group! (She is not likely to do anything like that; I just have to have something to worry about, I guess.)

OH -- I meant to ask y'all -- I know Medicare says you should not laminate these cards. What is a good way to keep it from getting all raggedy in your wallet?
Tomorrow is another day.

Project of the day completed! We now have a cleaner washer & dryer area. I think they recommend cleaning out the dryer vent hose regularly. Maybe yearly? Welll....that hasn't happened here in a while. However, it happened today! Once we pulled out the dryer & removed the expandable metal dryer vent hose that can expand to 8', I decided to not try to clean it but to replace it instead. A quick trip to local hardware store and a new metal vent hose was attached after blowing out the other part of the dryer vent hose leading to the exterior. Then I took apart the inside of the dryer as much as possible and cleaned it well. The wall behind the washer and dryer were wiped and the floor underneath where they normally sit was swept and mopped. Everything is back in place including the freshly vacuumed laundry floor mat that stay in front of the washer/dryer. The project wasn't done to perfection, but the washer/dryer area is greatly improved.
