Thursday's Mindset PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

This was a James Clear quote from an email a few weeks ago. What's your mindset today? How can you keep you keep your mindset open, resilient, and capable of handling change with flexibility?

"One of my hopes is to age into a better mindset.

The general trend seems to become less open minded, less resilient, less capable of handling change with ease and flexibility as the years roll by.

I hope to grow in the opposite direction. How can my mindset be better today than it was yesterday?"

Thank you for starting all of us off today Twins' Mom!!

Compost and garbage are out at the road. I even remembered the bag full of washed meat trays in the freezer.

Dh has twisted his right knee again. He doesn't know how or when. He also says he's going to cut the grass today. I think he's in too much pain to do it. I did ask if he wanted to see his doctor about this knee. He said no. I knew he would, but I thought I should ask.

I want to make some room in the freezer, so we will be having beef meat pies for supper. I have made a lot of boiled potatoes this past week, so I think I might just cook some green and yellow beans to go with the meat pies.

Good morning!

How true that we should strive to have a pleasant MINDSET toward those around us, for instance. HRH has a friend group who tease (warn?) each other about the danger of growing into grumpy old men. Sometimes HRH greets them with, "Get off my lawn.", which gets a laugh. They're actually quite nice, of course, and not so grumpy, but also, they do have things in life to overcome, and sometimes cheerfulness is not easy. It's true that we can become defensive rather than open.

Cathy, one of those knee stretchy wraps sure would be nice, to give him a little bracing. My dmil just loves them for her knee. Too bad we haven't invented that transporter yet, to just have one appear when we think of it.

This is my last partial-day of gardening outdoors this week. Later I'll need to be getting ready for an early trip out Friday morning to a distant appt that requires me to eat a certain way this evening, and I'll want to do some cooking, finish up household chores early, S2S early, get in the bed early.

This morning, I want to get the rest of the plants in the ground if I can. Have some delegation to do. A delivery to watch for.

Good morning! Thanks for opening us up, Twins!

I suppose my mindset for today has become, of necessity, “roll with it.” I dawdled a little too long getting up, and DD beat me into the shower, so I had to rearrange my morning routine a bit. Didn’t end up too far behind in the end. I’m writing this as I wait for DC to come downstairs. I didn’t explicitly say that I wanted them to do the drive into school today, so it looks like I’ll be driving while they eat breakfast in the car. Ah, well. Well, they’ve just come down, so maybe they’ll have eaten by the time it’s time to go. Alas, they’ve started hash browns in the toaster oven, which will take until we have to leave. Perhaps I can make up for this by having them drive twice a day once this play is over and they’re getting home at a reasonable hour. The play is this weekend, so only one more day of rehearsals till the show. Next week is the last week of regular classes, with finals the week after, so soon there will be much time to drive if I can figure out where to go.

Since I seldom get here more than once a day, I will wish you a good trip tomorrow, Harriet.

Well, I guess, as long as I’m rolling with it, I should get rolling. I should have time to clean up my breakfast before we have to go. Once I’m back, I can get started on the laundry.

Good morning

Twins - Thank you for the start and sharing exactly what I needed to hear this morning.

Nancy - Congratulations!

Teens have been successfully launched to school & work. DD14 and I made plans how I can best support her today. I'll be in front of the school with the van sliding door open at 12:15 so she can drop off her 40+ lbs of bags as she leaves the school grounds to walk the half mile to the ballpark. Everyone in the top 6 grades (7th-12th) have the option to stay in school this afternoon or go watch the ball game. DD14 has NO interest in sports but doesn't want to be one of the very few students who choose to stay in the school building.

DD14 has online meeting with dietitian at 4pm today so I've set another alarm to get that set up on my laptop for her.

project of the day - Weedeaters! The gas weedeater that DH uses is out of string and he doesn't remember where the replacement string is or how to put it on. My battery weedeater is still going strong after many years, but I don't think I can do all the weedeating for the entire yard with it. I don't want to share my weedeater with DH because we would be constantly changing the height. ANYway, in addition to getting the gas weedeater string fixed, I want to purchase a battery weedeater for DH that has easily replaced string spools.

thank you d twins for starting us - good morning d twins and d cathy and all

yesterday was a rough day for our helper as mom was off - physically exhausted dead weight - she had been talking in the middle of the night for two days almost three - it happens once a month. i wasn't here bc I am working on moms packing and dh said the helper had a really really rough time - I have decided to stay home today so that I can give her a break if needed. mom got enough rest and is 100% better. I am sending the helper home earlier so she can see her mom in the city.

I hired someone to wash my walls in the kitchen and laundry room - amazing!

wishing you all a wonderful day!!!!
it is always a joy to be here with you!

DS17 has called 3 times this morning to talk. He doesn't seek my opinion as much as a sounding board for him to talk things out and come to his own conclusions. I think he is headed in the right direction with his decisions but is taking a round about way to get there. ANYway, over an hour of my morning has been spent on this. I consider it an honor that he trusts me enough to be his sounding board. Being a teenager is full of decisions as they transition from childhood to adulthood.

I'm mostly staying up with my pathway cards. I have the cards divided up into steps (categories and hourly time), so it doesn't seem so overwhelming.
My AM personal care
7:00 AM
Teen AM
8:00 AM
Garden
9:00 AM
Laundry
10:00 AM
CF0
11:00 AM
are the categories/time-based cards that I have worked on this morning so far.

I am thinking of Costume lady and hoping she is enjoying her travel.

bw2, I'm glad you have the helper there and can get some of the packing done, and I'm glad you can stay close to home for support for helper and your mom. And glad to see you posting.

LM, glad those thoughts were what you need to hear. I think I have gotten more flexible about some things as I've aged but then I find myself accustomed to my routines and not able to adjust, to things put away in a wrong place for instance.

I'm playing up my reputation as the "crotchety old lady" in our neighborhood, although I'd have to say I'm not nearly as crotchety as they think I am. I've noticed for awhile that there's erosion and that the pine straw in a hill in our neighborhood is disheveled. And the last two days I've found kids biking on it - up the hill where it's not as steep, and straight back down the steeper part. So I told one kid not to do it (emailed the mom on Tuesday) and there were two more kids, with their mom in tow, doing it yesterday. So I've asked chair for a general announcement to refrain from doing it. (and we have had a board member complaining about the disheveled pine straw... but didn't know what was causing it.

Glad to see Mystery with her ADHD meds getting rolling today too.

Big wow on threading the needle Nancy. I have to take off my glasses for any very close work - threading a needle, reading something small, sometimes small detail in stamping.

So glad you're able to garden this year Harriet. It's giving you so much pleasure!

Cathy, is dh's sore knee improving today? Might want to ice it?

I've done some gardening myself today - got the marigolds, basil, and parsley into the ground in the back. I spread zinnia seeds on the second of the two raised beds. Need to get back out there and rig up the chicken wire to protect them from ddog. Also still need to repot geranium on front porch and the two ferns. And I'd like to repot my Peace Lily. The original plan has died out and there are smaller ones around the perimeter, none are doing well, and I probably haven't repotted there in years. So I'll take one or more of the smaller ones to a fresh pot and let the rest go. Not sure I'll do all this today.

I think I have decided on a skip day from workouts today. It's pretty out, it's felt like a weird week (Tuesday=dinner, entertaining prep, yesterday=felt overtired/recovery),

back inside. So glad I did not donate them yet yea!

P.M. Routing was hit or miss as well.
For the win however was setting out clothes so I got
dressed at a much earlier time yea!

vacuumed upstairs bedrooms at the back of the house.
Used my art planner.
Still deciding on my bujo info. where to put that info.
Glad for some new and fresh ideas too!

Cool out and cloudy and rainy in the forecast as well as windy has kept me inside.
