A hobby horse (or hobby-horse) is a child's toy horse. Children play at riding a horse made of a straight stick with a head (of wood or stuffed fabric), and perhaps reins, attached to one end. The bottom end of the stick sometimes had a small wheel or wheels attached. This toy was also sometimes known as a cock horse (as in the nursery rhyme Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross) or stick horse.

Hobby horses feature in the worship of Rajasthani folk deity Baba Ramdevji, a reference to a story about his childhood; wooden toy horses are popular offerings at his temple at Ramdevra. They also figured in the public rites of the Romanian Călușari.[1]

Hobby horsing as a sport became popular among young women in Finland and elsewhere in the 21st century.

Happy Saturday!

I'm still hanging in there. Trying to keep a sense of normalcy in a situation which is very much not normal - I think helia could probably relate, though if I recally correctly, your mom was already in care home when your dad died? DMIL has some kind of surgery planned for next week, so she'll be in hospital from Sunday till Tuesday or Wednesday at least. In any case, we're leaving for a 3 day family trip (Friday is bank holiday) on Thursday evening and DH is adamant we go no matter what. He's rather unhappy with his sister at the moment, because she doesn't involve him in any planning or scheduling (or answer calls or texts) and just expects him to step in whenever she needs, completely disregarding that it's a two hour drive for us and that we both work full time with four kids and no help whatsover, so we just need to PLAN to be able to add caring for MIL to our already crazy lives.
Anyway, enough of my rant. Up extremely early today - since 4:45, because DS has a youth beekeeper contest (he's in a beekeeper club at school and this is an annual event for schools that have beekeeper clubs) and the rande-vous was at 6:30 in the city. DH is driving him, but of course I was up to see him off. Also on the menu for today is DBD's scout field trip with rande-vous at 8:25 in a different town, and twins' birthday party, for which they opted for a jump park (we have a reservation from 4 to 6pm) and a sleepover. I think I am going to collapse in bed at about 9pm tonight!

I love that SHEM, trissie! Thank you for starting us off. (((Hugs))) to you and your dfamily. You really do have a crazy busy day today. Hopefully at some point your DMIL can get into a care home and then everyone can visit according to their abilities.

I've just had my shower and Germane is alert and active, so I am cooking a piece of salmon for her treats before we go to bed.

Good morning, Trissie! So very good to "see" you,.and so glad you're hanging in there, despite the craziness life is throwing at you. A.d a big WTG for keeping everything as normal as possible for the DKids.

Sleep well,.Dogged!

I had a good session in.my.garden yesterday and got the."must dos" done. Today I would like to start plamting.my.geraniums. I also need to check the pansies - they are.jot.a.f.an.of hot dry weather, and some were looking very sad yesterday. They've had a good drink,.so hopefully have recovered. And it's to.w.to spray the roses again.

This morning I have women's breakfast at the community shop at 9 am. DH has complicated-sounding plans involving a model railway exhibition with his friends. I'm glad he's rekindling old interests and developing new ones in the run up to his retirement. :D

Werw forecast another warm.sunny.day,.so I would really.like.to bring the cushions.for the patio furniture out of their winter hiding place!

Good night, Dogged! I'd love me a salmon treat too! :-)
have fun at the women's breakfast, kittykatt! I have some geraniums in my garden too - if, of course, you mean these beauties: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geranium

Downstairs is company ready, and the cake is waiting to be assembled. I think I can afford a 15 minute power nap in the garden in the sun to recharge! :-)

Trissie, I have those types of geraniums growing in the garden, they're so easy and trouble free. :D The ones I bought yesterday are the pelargoniums (commonly also referred to here as "geraniums"), which are actually hardy in parts of Cornwall and can grow to enormous sizes, but. Everywhere else are treated as a half hardy annual:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelargonium

I'm back from women's breakfast - there were 10 of us at our community café. It's a beautiful sunny day, so I'm going out in my garden to make the most of it. :D
