Happy Groundhog Day!

Post by lucylee »

I know a bunch of us are hoping the groundhog does NOT see his shadow today. Boy... this winter has about outdone himself in some parts of the world. All in all, I guess I should not complain -- we've had NO power outages, and no bad roads here in my little corner of the world... but * whew * not far from here it has been chaos this past week. And pretty weather will be so much more cheerful for my dmom and others who really feel the seasonal depression.

So -- I was still up and thought I'd just start the day off for everyone for a change.

:?: And I have another question:
For those of you who use cards, when you skip a task for whatever reason, do you "file it and forget it" as P&P suggested in the first book, or do you leave it out for another day, or what? Because I've been leaving them out, and that little card holder rack I bought is running over by the end of the week. I think my old-fashioned list works better. Or maybe my "any day of the week" checklist, but that makes me thing I've Got All Week... so that's not good, either.
Tomorrow is another day.

No groundhog shadow here, Lucy! We have dense fog but no rain yet. I need to get Moe to Petsmart for his bath soon...I'm sure he will be pleased to go for a ride.

Good morning and Happy Groundhog Day! I'm embracing the idea of considering 2/2/2014 yet another day to redefine 2014 Resolutions, and knowing that 3/3/2014 could give me the same chance! I like being right on time with ideas that formed well after the first of the year. ;)

lucylee, the cards are forgiving - let them forgive you! If there isn't time to get to a task, yes, you're really supposed to re-file and let it go! My libraran friend here uses colored paper clips to designate how many times she'd refiled a card. She always starts with green, which means to her that everything is fine, she just needs to "go" away from that task at this time. Yellow is the color if she has to skip it a second time, meaning "caution". When she gets back to that task, she knows that it's time to "stop" and do the task. I'm impressed that you are using a card holder rack - that is cool.

We also have overcast skies, so if there were a groundhog making decisions here, he would be pleased.

Good Morning!

We are in the middle of a snow storm this morning so the groundhog won't be peeking out. They are predicting up to 10" of snow for us today. THANKFULLY there is no ice. DH just called our preacher and he had safely traveled 60 miles on his way to church (20 more miles to go). DPreacher said the roads aren't slick so our church is not going to cancel services this morning. From watching the TV scroll of cancellations, it appears we are in a minority. Most churches have cancelled.

Our forecast only shows below freezing temps in our near future.. It looks like MPB will be closed for at least a week.

Early this morning (1:30am) I checked on the meat cooking in crockpot. It was done so I got it packaged into meal size portions and into the freezer.

RE: skipping cards. Since my SHE cards are digital, the way I do skipped cards is different. I leave them showing the (over) due date. I skip cards all the time, but want to monitor what area is suffering the most. Seeing how long it has been since the last time I completed that card is often the motivation I need to get it done.

When I skipped cards I would file them under the new week or two weeks in the future or next month on the day if the week or month devider it went behind. When I was doing non digital cards.

The sun rise is lovely here this morning!

Need to get to work here. Moe was dropped off for a bath and I picked up Bo jangles biscuits for my breakfast. I've read the paper and dh is en route home. Yesterday Lucylee and CathyS were talking about their men being underfoot, now I'll be back with the rest of you guys. It's been a nice week w/o a man underfoot but perhaps a little too quiet. I should say that it drives me crazy that the TV is almost always on when he is here, and it almost always seems too loud to me too.

-vitamins/meds
-empty dishwasher
-kitchen counters, breakfast bar and kitchen table
-reboot the laundry
-make the bed

This will do most of a.m. routine except for s2s. When dh called, he asked if I could make chili for the evening. Sigh. I have to go to grocery store for ingredients and I hate to do it today because it will be busy, but I will.

DH and LO went to church. I opted to stay home.....indoors where it is warm and dry.

Next up - set up the cards and take a look at the coming week.

-walk dMacs
-s2s
-get shoe rack out of car and assemble in our closet
-reboot laundry
-quick trip to grocery
-take out kitchen trash

I just threw away a large box of photos. I don't know why it was hard to let them go. I had already gone through all of these, pulled out the best ones and incorporated them into scrapbooks. There's really no reason to save the ones that aren't so great, especially since for that era I did a scrapbook for each child, plus the "family" book.

Morning y'all...
Twins I want to make a grocery run too, but may put it off till tomorrow. There is a winter storm headed for nj tomorrow so I am watching the weather.

I am suppose to fly out on Tue morning. The weather for tomorrow is iffy. Rain and then snow .... 3-5 inches..if my flight is cancelled I will just reschedule. Thankfully my retired life is flexible ;-). I ride the train from the airport to my home town which is near the ocean. Usually our snow accumulation is less because of the warmer sea air. I'll let the weather and the airline make my decision for me.

I will start my travel prep today as I get ready to watch the football game. That means laundry and rethinking what I'm going to travel in. The boots I was planning to wear only come to the bottom of my ankles. I do have a pair that are higher so I may wear them instead. All is just a guessing at this point.

As far as my cards go... When I was first working my box I did it as it was taught. Meaning if I skipped something I put it back. Later I had already begun to combined tasks into one card... For example all my daily tasks for the kitchen was on one card. I tended to do the missed task on the following day cause it just bugged me and I wanted to keep the habit going.

My problem in the past was missing a task gave me the excuse to do it again. For me making my box work was my primary priority. To be honest in the beginning working the box was hard for me. I didn't have the mind set or discipline to make it work. But I also realized the box wouldn't work if I didn't work the box. Remember I am very ADD but back then there wasn't a term for my inability to stay focused. I was just tired of living like I was running around with my hair on fire.

On e I began to understand and appreciate the success of the box, and hence my house and life, that in its self was enough to keep me motivated. I loved the results and it brought peace to my mind. My routines are now so automatic that I seldom use my box. I know what needs to be done and I just do it, no excuses.

Off to start my laundry. I see the camels' noses peeking over the hill. I need to push my "little" friends back. Enjoy your day and find some time for fun and laughter...
