Morning ya'll...

I've been up for quite a while...already have last minute laundry going. One by one am checking things off my packing list. Want to have everything in place by tonight so I don't have to be crazy tomorrow. We are taking the re-eye tomorrow night that leaves at 11:30 PM..we fly into NC, switch planes and land in Jacksonville around 8:30 Sat morning. We'll pick up our rental car and head to the island. Will stop at w mart before we get there so we can stock up on what we will need for the coming week.

Our pups will be kenneled at our vets. They've been going there for years and love the place. We can bring their food and cookies. The staff loves our pups and tend to spoil them...which is just fine with me. We can drop them off at 8:00pm and then head to the airport.

Today, for the first time, we are having tree trimmers come in to tame our soaring tall trees, and it seems they will be just in time. There are suppose to be some major storms while we are gone and I was afraid the strong winds could uproot them. I will enjoy watching the tree trimmers do their job while I can remain inside. It takes Sweetie and I forever to do what they will be able to accomplish in just an hour or two.

Dinner is ready...laundry needs to be flipped and then its off to work on the packing. I have two errands I need to run, but will do those later in the day...If I don't get to them today, I will have time to do it tomorrow.

Hello all!

I just had one meeting today and then S and R are coming over to share leftovers with us tonight.

Done:
- up
- bfast - tea and banana
- drove with dd16 to school
- checked on hens - only one egg and it had been eaten. They are molting so are slowing down. One will eat eggs if they are left out too long.
- emptied non-paper recycling in the bin
- washed out the plastic/glass/cans bins we keep in our house
- wiped down the shelf on which these bins sit in a closet
- self care: s2s, etc.
- printed out forms
- met moms group child care coordinator + interviewee at church at 10 a.m. "Interview" went fine. She is a lovely woman! I gave her paperwork and a copy of the curriculum, went over logistics, and showed her the room - and the gym, where the kids can play.
- talked a bit with child care coordinator; passed on curriculum notebooks, talked some logistics
- went through our group's drawers in the T2, T3, and PreK/K rooms. Took stock of supplies and returned some items to last year's curriculum bins.
- home - lunch

Now, I'm realizing I forgot to (1) pick up flyers re: the moms group to hand to friends and (2) go through the moms group bin to see what coffee and paper goods supplies we'll need. I'll be back at the church on Sunday and can do it then.

Moms group currently has 55 kids registered. 27 of those are under the age of 2. We imagine many of the itty bitties will be in the room with their moms - but we still need to be prepared in case their moms do want to bring them to child care. Right now, we only have one of the nursery rooms staffed, which has been sufficient for the past 2 years. Now, we believe we need to staff both, which means we need to find at least 2 more adults, perhaps some teens too. (We pull from a homeschooling group with teens who historically have been pretty eager to work for us.) We still need a 2nd adult for the PreK/K class as well. . . .SO, I am now asking everyone I know if they know somebody who might be interested. I'm going to send a blurb along to some of the campus groups too. We typically end up with a couple Univ. students working for us each year.

Off to make progresson the a.m. routine. I'll be picking up (well, dd16 will drive home) dd16 in about 1:45.

This is just a quick C. I. I gave up on the serious downer story last night, to hand write out a light romantic one instead. Now I'm handwriting out another one, which is drama, romance, and a tear jerker, but very good, IMHO.

My memories is how I miss the little ones at home, Dson in Kindergarten and First Grade, my stint as home room mother, Brownie leader, etc.. and things the kids said and did that were so funny. I miss that, but a lot is written in my journals, about their teen years. I also have a journal, where I "interviewed" DD every day she came home from Kindergarten, I wrote down an entry of what happened during her day, and still have it. It's fun to re-read though it. ♥

Taking a break...

Last minute laundry done and put away. Sweetie gave me what he needed to pack...I really got it ready for him and just needed his approval

I must be crazy, but I love the challenge of packing. I use a variety of rolling, stacking and bundling methods. I'm amazing even myself today. All I can say is DARN I'm good

I'm on a roll...no pun intended... and should be able to complete everything and more that I wanted to do today. I love it when that happens...

FF, you reminded me that I wanted to take a small notebook with me in case I get inspired. I'm like you...love writing in long hand with ink.

Barry White singing in my ear...I'm gonna love you just a little more....how good it that.....and now its the Pointer Sisters with Slow Hand. Years ago I wore their tape out playing it over and over again in my walkman.....boy does that date me, and I still have mine It was the best music to walk do...and at that point I was walking a 5.2 mph with the help of them singing in my ear. Walked 4 miles a day. Thats when I lost 40 lbs in 3.5 months. Can you tell I was inspired back then

Circiut breaker was the first thing we thought of as well nope not that. Today throw back to the days of camping and taking a flash light with you to P as the main bathroom has no window ! LOL!

ToddlerN is delighted with the doll clothes. Dgd will be here at1:30 today so they can play.

Time to unload dishes.

Once, when we were having a picnic out here with Nana and another little old lady, Mrs. F., Dson was a little one. He looked at Mrs. F. and stated, "Mrs. F., you sure have a BIG NOSE, but I sure would like to come home with you!" She laughed, and Nana laughed. Mrs. F. said, "Spoken like a true child. They always say the truth. I know my nose is big, too!" I was mortified.

Once, DD and I were walking at night, down the long driveway. The stars were sparkling. She said, "Why did God make stars, Mom?" I said, "Oh? So explorers could find their way at night and..." She abruptly cut me off and shouted, "Well! I bet you that GOD could get it right!"

Once, when DD was in preschool, she was very, very tiny and petite. The door was closed behind her at preschool, she couldn't get out. When we drove up to the community center, where the preschool was, the bathroom window was open and I could hear blood-curdling screaming from some child! I didn't know what was going on. I went into the gym, no DD was to be found. My mother instinct told me how DD was in TROUBLE! I rushed to the bathroom, opened the door, she was crying, screaming, trapped and in a panic. I marched her to the preschool teacher, told her about it and I told the director, too. Next time, after this, ALL children were marched in a line, to the bathrooms, the big door was kept open, and the policy changed so no child would ever go through this agony and big scare again. Later, when she was a Brownie, we were on a trip on a bus. She went to use the bathroom, couldn't get the door open, and I heard her banging and shouting on the door. I quickly told my co-leader, "Don't worry! I've got this! She was locked in a bathroom in preschool and panicked them, too!" I rescued my DD, who was a bit embarrassed, but relieved I'd come to her rescue again. Those are "some" things I remember about being a Dmom.

Once, when I was working as a House Bill Clerk for the Legislature, I came home late. Dson has made himself instant boxed macaroni and cheese. He was in his bedroom. I found macaroni and water and cheese powder in the sink, on the big bowl, on the spoon he mixed with, what he ate with, on the counter, on the stove, on the floor, and oh brother! What a time and mess it was to clean it up. And yes, I DID enlist him to help, as I'd put in a 13 hour day already!

Dson wore extender cables, which were braces, which were cables attached to a metal padded waist-belt thing. It was supposed to make him turn his feet outward, rather than inward. We dressed him up as Charlie Chaplin for Halloween one year, because that's the direction his feet went in. People thought it was so cute. When he got the cables, I was asked by the teacher, to attend the class and a question-answer session, to show the class what they looked like, talk about what they did, and introduce them to the class so there weren't any problems or teasing or bullying. There were no problems. The kids were all so wonderful. Second grade. Eventually, the Dr. told me to go to a specialist because he felt Dson needed to have surgery done, to turn his feet out. I saw the specialist, he said he refused to put our son through such an ordeal because it meant opening up the entire leg from top to bottom, on both legs, and he told me famous athletes all, either turn in or out. It's normal. So our Dson got to escape the cables and he's just find today, too.

Then, there was DD and her eye teeth didn't come down. They tried braces, to bring them down. Finally, they were removed and we did Swedish implants and braces. Both kids had braces and talk about a LOT of $$$$$. When she had her eye teeth pulled and Swedish implants put in, the office sent us a bouquet for DD. DH said, "Look, it's our $2,000 bouquet!" Anyway, both kids have perfect teeth today.

There are so many memories that I remember. Throw Back Thursday is a good day!

How appropriate! Throw Back Thursday.
Last night I managed about 90 minutes time in the master bathroom -- that is supposed to be next week's zone, but since it connects to the master bedroom, I sorta work on them together sometimes, especially w/the decluttering.
I took a bunch of books to better places in the house and spent the majority of that time reading through an old journal. Lots of smiles.

So far today I have completed the pre-walking chores of my morning routine. Yes, I know it is almost 2:00 p.m. Don't judge.
I have --
* done my floor exercises
* straightened bed
* weighed & recorded
* s/s both baths
* ate & took vitamins
* done Bible reading
* called and made haircut appts for next week
* typed my bio for dfriend to give to -- whomever -- ??? -- for homecoming parade (this still makes me nervous)

Next up -- I'm waiting on ds to arrive and walk w/me, and I'll have dgs for the rest of the afternoon. I'll have to manage someway to get my s2s done while he's here. So far, he hasn't climbed out of the pack-n-play yet!

The breaking news said that Joan Rivers died; age 81. So sad for her DD. She worked up to the very end. What a go-getter.

I'm still slowly writing a story by hand. Will have 2 to log. Asked DH if he "minds" if I work on our wedding anniversary. He said I CAN do what I WANT to do and it doesn't matter to him at all. He's trying to relax before his Dfriend's Saturday funeral. So we've been spending quiet time together today. And tonight, the Mariners and the Seahawks are on at the same time. I'll try to crochet.

I don't know how I'll ever get Christmas gift crochet done if I'm writing all the time or reading. OOPS. Time management?

Lunch Break...

My body decided it needed to be refueled and I listened. Sometimes when I'm hurrying around and forget to eat, I can get light-headed. Don't need to be crashing down on the floor and creating any more boo-boos on my face than I already have from yesterday's drs. visit. At least none of the 7 burnt off places on my face have blistered this time, but the one on the top of my wrist sure did. I know better than to mess with it...last time the blister on the side of my nose broke, and boy was it hurtful afterwards.

I have everything placed that needs to be packed. I am now in the process of gathering all my makeup and face stuff. Not going to take me long as I have no plans to be needing makeup at the beach....and all my face stuff is still in the containers from my last two trips. I just need to reload some of it from the source bottles. I got smart in my old age

I am seeing pony tails and Audrey Hepburn type hair dos in my near future and thats alright by me.....

Ah, throw back Thursday stories of little ones! I LOVE the way little ones think and the things they say. I tried to write down some gems from my kids, but I'm sure I missed a lot too. Off the top of my head:

Dd18's name rhymes with banana, so when she was small, I would often call her "Dd18 banana." Well, so did other people. She was in the 2s class at her preschool and had recently turned 3 when she decided that she did NOT like this nickname at all. One morning, her preschool teacher cheerfully greeted her as she walked in the room with, "Good morning, dd18 banana," as she often did. Dd18 apparently stopped, put her hands on her little hips, and said, "My name is NOT dd18 banana. You can call me dd18 or Miss [helia family last name.]" The teacher thought that was SO funny, that she pulled me aside to share when I picked dd18 up after preschool. I'm still not sure where she got those ideas, but she has always had a big personality.

When dd16 was 3, she became cognizant of the fact that she could have thoughts inside her head where no one else could see or hear. She came up to me one afternoon and said, "Hey mom, I can talk without making any noise. Here watch. . " And she stared intently at me. Then she asked, "Did you hear what I said?" Around the same age, she also would listen carefully to the lyrics of music playing on the radio or our stereo. One day, she became somewhat distressed by the lyrics to Sting's song, the one where he sings, "I still. . . . love . . . . you." While listening to the song, she came to me and asked me, "Why does he say he loves me? He doesn't even know who I am." I had to reassure her that the song was not being sung to her specifically. . . .

A classic story about ds is when he had just started first grade, and I had him practice for his first ever spelling test. I told him, "You're going to have to write the words without looking at them." He sighed, looked a little worried, and said, "OK." I helped him number his paper, told him what I would do, and then read him the first word. He looked straight up at the ceiling and started writing on his paper. He kept his eyes trained on the ceiling and did not look at his paper for the 2nd word or the 3rd word. At that point, I stopped and asked him what on earth he was doing. I thought he might have been being silly or trying to give himself a harder challenge. "You said I had to write them without looking at them," was his somber and somewhat distressed reply. Ah, ds. He repeated the same thing in a basic chem/physics class in high school when he thought for some reason that he wasn't allowed to use scratch paper to figure out problems on exams and was doing all the work in his head. He was still doing very well in the class but was getting slightly lower grades on the exams than we expected. Finally, we asked his teacher at a parent teacher conference -- or maybe the teacher brought it up. I can't remember who brought it up -- but once ds realized he could use scratch paper for calculations, etc., his exam grades improved. Once we realized what was going on, we were impressed by the scores he'd gotten w/out the scratch paper.

Alright, that was my fun thing. I've pretty much goofed off all afternoon. Back to tidying the kitchen and doing laundry. Dh will be home around 5 to practice driving with dd16 who has marching band rehearsal 6:30 - 9 pm tonight. She is going for her drivers license test tomorrow. I think she is the least prepared of our kids for this test - yet I need her to pass much more than I needed the other 2 to pass. We'll see how it goes. . .
