Washing-up Wednesday

Post by Harriet »

Lots of good old ordinary cleaning to be done around my house today. :) How about yours?

I think in the UK (at least from the BBC television shows we chatted about yesterday), "washing-up" mostly means doing the dishes. But I haven't found that to be true in the US.

Means plenty of different things to me! And they are all calling!

Yes, I have things calling me as well, Harriet. However I slept poorly from 4 till after dh got up. But then I dozed until after 8! :o Now dh is in the shower so have to wait to do that and dress, etc, etc, etc. Then on to breakfast.

Have to take an old American Flag that dd has hanging on a wall, to the cleaners today. Also have a banner from DD's school to take in. They're afraid to wash it and need it for an expo at the airport next week. Also want to pick up a few "buy one/get one" things from the market today -it's the last day for this ad to run. They often have some good buys on that plan!

Dh is out -now to wait for him to dress.

Sent a note to dh's benefits holder last night -so will wait on their answer to make our decision about health insurance.

Think I'll put away clean dishes while dh is finishing and at least that will be done.

Good morning! Certainly a lot of washing up is needed here. Of all sorts. I'm not sure I'm going to get to it, though. . . I will try to make progress on laundry.

The sun is shining and it is 45* and forecast to get up to 55*. A beautiful day!

Done so far:
- sent dd16 off to school with the band uniform boxes; other parent volunteers are doing the concert uniform fittings today and tomorrow. I'm tickled to be dispensable in this process.
- fed g. pigs
- renewed membership in prof. organization
- went for a jog with dh

After dh gets out of the shower, I will s2s and make progress on my a.m. routine.

Before I leave for work, I need to:
- do a.m. routine
- errands: Target and TJ
- edit student paragraphs
- prep for class today

I found a chicken divan recipe I'm going to try for dinner tonight. I enjoy trying new recipes. It doesn't use mayo (not dh's favorite) or Campbell's soup as a sauce base.

Dh ordered a Roomba, and it arrived yesterday. Our planned evening entertainment is to watch Maia's reaction to it. . . Dd16 doesn't want to miss it. She has put in a request that we not start it until she's home from school, which will probably be after 9 pm due to her involvement in costume work for the play.

Next: a.m. routine

Need a plan for dinner here too, Nancy. Cleaned out the fridge yesterday and there's nothing in the line of real food in there any more! :? Lots of condiments, juice and eggs.

Just put up dh's meds for 2 weeks and it occurred to me that I probably need to be ordering new prescriptions for him or he'll run out while we're at sea. 8-)

Helped dh total up his winterization & weed 'n feed $$'s. Healthy sum for our winter doings. Plus have the $$ he found in the top of the closet not too long before I left. Hopefully we'll have enough left for him to think about a new hearing aid when we get home. His present one is terrible and doesn't fit his ear any longer. If he bends in the least it starts whining -and both of us hear that! Also wondering if his insurance won't pay part of it -I don't care if it's only $20, it's something! Of course I'll be needing new glasses after my cataract surgery next spring/summer. Have an appointment with the surgeon on May 19th so sometime after that. Dr. had me make my appointment with her later that same week as she figures he'll want an EKG -which she then can order.

Going on Med Co's site now to try to order dh's meds. Wish me luck. So far we've done quite well in the last year. And my meds that I ordered about the time I left NY came here as I had also ordered. Whew!

Good luck with MedCo, Dee! May this experience be unlike any others you've had with them. I'd say they can't get worse but I don't want to jinx you!

I'm back from swimming.

Also booked dh's flight to Sweden. Got him a seat in business class for half what AC wanted in economy class. And better flight timings as well. He'll see Iceland from the airport, for a total of 2 hours, assuming he can find a window!

Next up, prepare my lunch and then head out to my meeting by bus. I'll have to eat my lunch at the meeting because I can't eat healthy stuff until 12:45. I'll have a bag of chips as soon as I can in order to not be too hungry.

Ds got in around 6:30 and started a load of laundry before going to bed. I just flipped it for him.

Just remembered I have to wash my bathing suit so off to do that first, then make my lunch.

Harriet... I did all my wah-ups yesterday including extra blankets, sheets and down comforter. Worked around the house doing closets and such until after 7pm when I finally ran out of steam.

Tried on all my clothes from my "some day" closet and all fit, including my pant suits except for one pair of pants...I can wear them, but they are a bit tight around the waist. Few more pounds gone and they should be good to go. I all but cried as I tried on piece after piece never thinking that this day would really come. I have 5 jackets/coats that I am taking to a clothes swap. The organization that I am now included in is putting this one because many of the women are loosing weight and don't want to spend money on clothes as they continue their weight loss journey.

Lucylee...I agree with Kathryn about the apple cider vinagar. I too have started having problems with eczema. My dr told me to quit taking daily showers and to use only warm water, but sometimes I cheat. However when I do the eczema flairs up big time...I'm down to two a week, but do wash my body daily. I was told to no longer use any soap, and use cera ve washing lotion. However after some research I found Emu soap. Its not really a soap, but an oil in bar form. It has made a tremendous difference with my body. My biggest problem is on my upper arms and shoulders. Until recently I was scratching so bad that my arms were bleeding.

I also quit using much dairy as research shows it contributes to eczema. My niece, the ballet dancer, has battled her eczema for years and switched to almond milk. That calmed her flare-ups and I have noticed the same thing.

Eczema is a body yeast as well....so like Willis I find if I use the apple cider vinagar on my affected areas I get better relief that other otc sprays. If it makes your scalp feel as good as my arms I think you will like it...plus after a few minutes the odor goes away.

I have an eye dr's appointment this afternoon and still have some morning desk work to do.

Dee...I will be going on Medicare early next year and am beginning to reserch supplimental policies. Sweetie's switch was easy. He never gets sick and doesn't care what dr he sees. I on the other hand need to stay with my same headache dr and am not willing to switch. I have a friend who is using a health care broker who is coming to her house to explain which policy will work best for her situation. I told my friend if she is pleased with this person then I wil set up an appointment with her as well.

Got to go...the suction componate of my computer is beginning to turn on...gotta scram before it gets to me. Tootals.....

Ooops...forgot to add, my son IS coming for Thanksgiving and he's bring his girl, so I am in a continuance state of doing the Happy Dance. I am so excited that after listening to me spout her praises that Sweetie will finally get to meet her. Keeping my fingers crossed extra tight cause I really believe...she's the ONE ;-)

Forgot to add... Emu soap

WTG, Ramblinrose!! Good for you. And thank you for the info on soap and on the cider vinegar. I'm wondering about the vinegar under my left arm -this is the one I injured badly quite a few years ago. That arm stays very close to my body -( I have to put my hand on a surface, and step away, stretching my arm out so I can wash or put on deodorant). I find that area increasingly itchy. Brought cider vinegar down with me, so just may try that at night. Think dh will want to sleep with me? Also am interested in the 'soaps' you use as I take only a few showers. It's hard for me to stand in the shower unfortunately.

And as usual need to get moving here. After several beautiful days, it's quite dreary and cool today.

-walk ddogs
-s2s
-call temple office mgr re: info needed (been trying on this since last Thurs now)
-start a lol
-s2s
-email dd re: her CV, which was really quite good

Several had mentioned fish oil last night to Lucylee -wanted to mention that I had trouble with the fish oil aftertaste coming back on me, so I use a product - actually an Omega complex - that has a lemon flavoring. If I get any aftertaste, it's the lemon.

Can you give us a name, Twins -perhaps separate it out?

Dh and I are getting ready to go to town to run several errands. Have to go to the dry cleaners, the hardware (for heavy glue to put my shredder back together -hopefully), to the grocery store to take advantage of this past week's ad and probably back to dbil/dsisil's. Dh has to take their electric fireplace back. They said it wasn't working, but dh can't get it to do anything but what it's supposed to do. :? We have one of those in our RV and have bought them for both of dsisil's sisters, and gave one to each of our DS's & DD one year for Christmas and gave another one to DDIL#1's dd as a housewarming gift. Plus bought one for our bedroom here -guess that's a lot of electric fireplaces. :)

BBL -need to think of something for dinner while we're out too. As Nancy said -do have to get a plan for that.
