I am still gardening. I know why dstepdil and dstepson couldn't get anything to grow in the large planter. It was half-filled with the sandiest, least organic potting soil ever. I actually had a hard time getting a shovel down into it. Leaves that had blown in over the top kept me from really seeing it until now. I had worried I might disturb something alive but, um ... .. no. Now it has perlite and mushroom compost and leaves incorporated. I brought manure over to it, realized I was winded, and came in to sit a bit before working that in. (I'm with Nancy and Ramblin')
The epiphany about where to put it didn't come until I had to walk away from the work a bit to dust off, and looked back. I realized there was a chance to cover the "visual" of our electric box, grounding and wires, near an often-used entrance, with the planter and its flowers.
Our green-eyed boy came with some homegrown worms he dug and laid them in the waist-high bed where I've only found one the whole time I've been digging. He and I agree our own worms will know what to do, be better, smarter, all-around wormier. His ever-practical sister says, "they sell those at the corner store, you know".
